Second Highest/Lowest HP vs 1 character?

Before prattling on endlessly about my rules issue, let me say that SotM has always been a great game, but Vegeance pushed it over the top!

Anyway, enough sucking up....

I just recently got my copy of Vengeance, and we played a 4 player game against four of the the Five; Baron Blade, Proletariat, Friction, & Ermine vs Mister Fixer, Naturalist, Parse, & Dark Watch Setback.

It eventually came down to where there were only 1 villain and 1 hero remaining. Ermine vs my Dark Watch Setback. 

Before stating my question, I wish to say and I searched the rulebook/official clarifications/general web for a ruling and could not find one, so if I missed it somewhere I apologize and will chastise myself severely to atone.

My question is this, in the 1v1 show down of my Setback vs Ermine, how am I supposed to handle her "Second Lowest HP"/"Second Highest HP" targeting if I am the only non-incapacitated character remaining?

During the end of the game, we played that I was not targeted, since I was consistently the highest/lowest, and avoided the damage and was able to squeak out a victory. But I cannot help but wonder if I cheated severely and have to remove the warm glowing feeling in my heart that the victory brought me.

Any ideas?

I think you played correctly. It is similar to the situation when Plage Rat Ravages with only 1 target. you can be both highest and loest simultaneously, but you can't be the second highest if there's no one above you.

My personal take on it is, if you're the only target, you're going to get hit by it once.

I'm sure this came up relatively recently (within the past couple of months or so), since I recall a discussion on the forum somewhere, the conclusion of which was that bascially you did it right - you can be the highest and the lowest at the same time, but not the second-highest/lowest if there are no other applicable targets. So Ermine wouldn't've been able to hit you because there'd've needed to be at least one other hero target present (assuming the attack was only targeting hero targets) for one of those to be the second-lowest.

It came up with Knyfe's redirection (i think) and there has to be 2 targets for 1 to be second-anything.
