Is it legal to change out cards from a hero deck?

I know this is not a deck building game but after playing Legacy several times now, I can see 2 or 3 cards I would like to change out for some of the stronger cards.

For example, there are cards like "Lead From The Front" and "Heroic Interception" that aren't needed all that often and there are 3 of each in the deck.  Where as "The Legacy Ring" is needed every game and there is only 2 of those cards in the deck.  I would love to be able to ditch 1 of each of "Lead From The Front" and "Heroic Interception" to put in a couple more "The Legacy Ring" cards.

Nope, definitely not legal.

But if you wanted to buy 20 copies of the game so that every card in Legacy's deck was a Legacy Ring, I'm sure >G would not object!

Funny!

Not that I need THAT many Legacy Rings but it would be nice to get a Legacy Ring out every once in a while during game play.

If you look at Wraith, she has 3 Utility Belts and other cards that pull equipment cards from you deck.

I'd take out all of Wraiths Mega Computers, inventory Barrage, suture Self and trust Fund, replace them all with Impromptu invention.

I'd change 20 of the cards in everyone's deck to "We Win The Game".

The other 20 would be "Search your deck for We Win The Game. Put it into play."

Yeah, but you have to do all that work searching your deck, right?

That could be a fun variation.  You'd each have to pick a character and stay in character with your cards though.

That could be crazy fun.

We should try it.

The players would all have to contribute cards for the villain, and then for each other.

YES. This must happen. I want to start a thread for it, get it going, but I fear it may violate the rules about posting custom decks on the forum. Maybe not, since they're presumably going to be odd thrown-together things, but it's enough of a possibility that I don't want to risk it.

Would anyone be kind enough to explain 1000 blank cards?

Essentially, on your turn you draw a card, then play one. Cards can give you points, take away points or do damn near anything else. The unique bit of the game is that all the cards are player-created; everyone makes some cards before the game starts, and these are shuffled together with blank cards that can be made into new cards during the game. (There's a completed forum game in the Off-Topic section if you want an example.)

So yeah, a Sentinels version would presumably do similar, but using Sentinels as its framework rather than the point-based game. And it would be majestic.

I would say we wouldn't make the game cards like sentinels, keep the blank cards format but require cards to be in theme.

Cards like:

Ryan Frost is uninterested.

Tachyon Stops for Pizza.

Bunker's face itches.

Get that dog(bot) off my lawn!

Changing the decks to just make the heroes more powerful is tantamount to cheating (not that anyone can call you on it, but still).  But I have wondered about the possibility of trading cards between decks in order to create what are essentially easy custom heroes - like replacing Visionary's psychic damage one-shots with stuff from Nightmist's deck to create an even more support-focused version, or combining Fixer and Expat into a "gun-fu" character with no Ammo or tools.

That way lies madness.  (Building play decks out of a library of available cards.)

That's a cool quick deck to make.

Looking at it, cut all Expat's ammo and ammo support (13 cards)

Cut all Fixer's tools, charge, overdrive, salvage yard, harmony.  (21 cards

That leaves 6 to cut.

I'd cut Flak jacket, unload and grease gun.

With arsenal access not able to pull ammo and able to pull toolbox the deck would play fast.

I'd use regular Expat.  Voss throws down forced deployment, nothing Tiger+Hairtrigger+Bloody Knuckles can't solve.

This got pretty ridiculous pretty fast.  I know its not legal but I can totally understand wanting to change proportions of existing cards.

Not making auto win cards (and to honest, who would want to play with such a thing), but just already existing cards.  Also there could pretty reasonably be a rule about not having more than four of any card.  I simply chose four because I think that is the highest number of duplicate cards in any deck currently.

I guess you are home ruling so yeah you could both make auto wins and have 20 versions of your favorite card, but thinking about just tweaking here or there is not so outlandish.

Also mixing cards like the kung-fu gun man above, thats not to make a super dominating hero necessarily, its just to make something new that you find fun.

Any hero deck, yes.  Baron Blade has five Hasten Dooms, Plague Rat has five Infections, and so forth.

Exactly.

I was certain that I counted five at one point.  Maybe my friend's copy has an extra card?

Making heroes better doesn't necessarily make them more fun.

If Christopher decided that 2 Legacy Rings was the right balance, then I'm good with that. His win stats are pretty healthy anyway, which would suggest that he doesn't need fixing at all. I've played loads of games where he doesn't get a ring ever and he still played perfectly fine.

Sure, change decks if you want. Knock yourself out. But where's the fun in making things easier for a hero who's already pretty damned powerful?

As far as I know, the maximum number of card copies in any hero deck is four. I could be wrong, though.

I would say they enjoy the idea of being killed, since it would be difficult to do it in practice and then assess the level of enjoyment it invoked in order to decide whether or not it is an activity they'd like to repeat…

Armin Meiwes managed to find one who wanted to live the dream…alas, we currently lack the technology necessary to confirm whether it turned out to be everything he'd hoped for, but I firmly believe that someday, such technology will exist, and recreational death will be thought no more strange than any of today's extreme sports (which carry an element of risk, just as resurrection machines would carry the risk of malfunction, as well as various existential worries about whether they actually work in the first place).

For the OP, sure you can deck build if you want, but don't expect the game to be challenging at all. Anyone with any MtG experience could mix cards and make a truely sick deck, but then your win % would go to like 99%.

Basically the game is desinged so that some cards are less optimal for thematic and balance reasons.

Unless you deck-build for the villain as well... Hmm, this may have mileage. Would anyone be up for a forum game with heroes made up piecewise of other heroes and a villain and environment deck built to kill you all?

Dreamer's Character card with a deck made up entirely of Sonic Blast… That would be unbeatable!

COULD is the key word here.  It is possible to deck build for a deck you personally enjoy the feel of rather than strictly trying to make it as powerful as possible.

For example, perhaps I think Pride and Predjudice are super fun so I replace every gun in Expat's deck with Quick Draw.  Now Arsenal access pretty much only gets ammo and flack jackets.  Unload is still usable if I play the DW Expat.  Overall I might find it more fun to play but I think there is a pretty strong case that I haven't made the deck significantly stronger.

Well we would presumably stick some rules on it, like limiting the number of cards you can use to the number that are in the game, and probably limiting the number of decks you could build from. I just thought it would be a fun activity.

I can definitely see doing this at some point.  It's likely that by the time I have played Vengeance to death, Wrath of the Cosmos will be out, so I'll need to play that to death too, but once that's done, I can easily imagine being bored enough to need to experiment with recreational substances customizing decks, in order to stay amused while waiting a full year for the game's final set.
