Forgive me if this has been answered before, but most redirection abilities use the text "The first time so and so would be dealt damage..."

More specifically for Amulet - The first time Nightmist would be dealt damage each turn, you may discard 2 cards. If you do, you may redirect that damage to a target of your choice

Now, let's say a villain is going to deal me 1 damage at the End of Turn and one of his minions is going to deal me 3 damage after that.  Could I let the villain hit me for 1 and then use my redirection on the 3 damage, even though the villain is dealing damage "first"?  Or do I only have the option to redirect the first attack that turn, or none at all?

Again, sorry if this has been answered; I did a search but most redirection topics are concerning other matters.

You would have to redirect the 1 damage or redirect nothing.

When it says "the first time", it means "the first time". Not "the first time you think it's worth it". ;)

Well this changes everything.  That's how I was playing the entire game.  "Kismet deals everyone 2 psychic damage…if you think it's worth it."

But, thanks for clearing it up; I had always assumed the "first time" text was there to keep people from redirecting every instance of damage during the turn.

It is. If you have a means of redirecting (eg Nightmist's Amulet), you can only choose to use it the first time something tries to hit you in any turn. So if the villain is going to attack you multiple times on his/her turn (whether directly, via minions/weapons, or both), you only have the option of using your redirection on the first of those attacks. Whether you choose to redirect or not, you can't then choose to use it again that turn, even if the first hit was for a crappy 1hp and the next one for, say, 5hp. Once it's no longer the villain's turn, the count resets, so if it's then another hero's turn and they have some kind of multi-hit that will include you as a target (eg Haka using Rampage), you can choose to redirect that. Once it gets to your turn, many of your cards involve hitting yourself so if you play one of those, you can redirect that damage. If you then try to use your Investigation power and hit yourself again, you've already been attacked once that turn (whether you redirected it or not), so the Amulet isn't an option. And so on.

Mr Fixer with unlimited redirection on Driving Mantis would be epic - low-damage villains like Spite and Plague Rat (meaning, those whose damage comes as many small plinks rather than larger blows) wouldn't stand a chance ;).

From personal expeirence of a misreading of the card, yeah, he is a monster like that. My cousin was nearly broken when we found out we had been playing him incorrectly

On the other hand, Omni-10 with his Ablative Coating and RPS versus Rat is completely legal and pretty fun, even more so if you have both Innervation Rays out to help counter the damage :D.

Took me a minute to figure out that RPS there didn't mean Rock-Paper-Scissors (which I just learned today is also sometimes called "roshambo").

I thought roshambo was the kick-the-other-guy-in-the-guy-bits game?

Definitely pulled that stunt the other night.  I was destroying Infections like they were no big deal.

I got both definitions from Urban Dictionary, but "the kick-the-other-guy-in-the-bits game" is not a thing I have ever heard of in real life, so I was assuming that RPS was the "real" meaning in most cases.  Apparently they call it this in France because phoenetics or something.

Ah, the kicking one is from South Park. So that's where I got it from...
