I only asked two rules questions of Christopher over the weekend and I know this was hotly debated somewhere but I can't remember which thread (and searching for "play" would be useless). It was debated in this thread.

If (card A) says "Play a card" on it, it does not go to the discard pile until after the card played by that card is resolved.

e.g. 3 Burst cards in trash. Play Fleet of Foot, draw Light Speed Barrage, play  Light Speed Barrage, the damage will be 3. Put  Light Speed Barrage in discard pile, put  Fleet of Foot  in discard pile.

EDIT:  If (card A) says "Play a card" on it, it does not go to the discard pile until (card B) is resolved, if (card B) also  says "Play a card" (card A) will only go to the discard pile after both (card C) and (card B) are resolved and (card B) will only go to the discard pile after (card C) is resolved.

So the card that causes the second card to be played will not go to the trash until after the card it put into play goes to the trash.

The problem was whether or not the resolution of the card meant that the second card had to go to the trash first, or if after its text was resolved they would both trigger to go to the trash.

Glad to have that resolved, thanks again.

Easiest way to do it is just to make a stack of the cards in front of you. For example, Blade plays a Hasten Doom. You put it on the table in front of you and read its text. He hits everyone and plays his top card, which is another Hasten Doom. You put that on top of the first Hasten Doom as it's "interrupted" that card's actions. You carry out this second Hasten Doom, and put the resultant third played card on top of it. Say it's a Blade Battallion. Okay, they just enter play and act in a minute, so you move them off the stack and put them wherever on the table you put your villain ongoing cards/targets. Now look at the top card of that stack you had (the second Hasten Doom). You've finished the "play the top card of the villain deck" part. Are there any more instructions? No. Okay, so it's done and goes into the trash. The card beneath it is the first Hasten Doom. Again, you check it to make sure it's all resolved. It is, so that, too, goes into the trash.

Probably doesn't matter so much with Blade unless you've gone all the way through his deck and a new play will require it to reshuffle, but with someone like Ambuscade, who repeatedly chains cards and reshuffles his trash into his deck, you can end up with a rather lengthy stack of still-in-progress cards piles up in front of you.

I find that this sort of tracking is easiest if I put a die or pawn on the card, covering all the text I've executed up to the moment that I stopped and did something else.  It's a lifesaver when running Argent Adept.  Die 1 = Musaragni's Harp over the word "perform".  Die 2:  Inspiring Supertonic on self.  Die 3:  Drake's Pipes over the "perform".  Die 4 - Sarabande of Destruction.  Die 5 - Explosives Wagon.  Die 6 - Bee Bot.  Resolve dice 4-6.  Then move die 3 to the word "two", place die 4 on Rhapsody of Vigor, move die 5 from one hero to the next as you give them their HP, remove dice 2-5, move die 1 to the word "accompany", put die 2 on Alacritous Subdominant, die 3 on Xu's Bell, die 4 on Syncopated Onslaught, die 5 on Inspiring Supertonic's accompany, and then resolve all that in reverse die order before finally being done.  (I have had it get almost that ridiculous in actual play, and would utterly melt my brain trying to do it all by memory.)

That probably sounds a hell of a lot more complicated than it actually is. I just remember what I'm doing ;).

This is the general rule of thumb. Simultaneous actions are resolved by card order. Consecutive effects are resolved newest to oldest.

I see my alphabetical system hasn't caught on (the J's do over complicate things though... damn those international cards)

Seriously though, the "stacking" method seems to work best for newbies in my groups... though at times cards with multiple breaks and triggers can still get confusing... as Envisioner illustrated with Argent Adept... sometimes it feels a bit Inception-esque

I'm afraid that as a latecomer to these forums, I don't get your international cards joke....

My apologies. That was a bit of a self-indulgent inside joke that was in reference to some slight delays in the delivery of the Shattered Timelines Kickstarter. GTG mailed out the domestic Kickstarters alphabetically by username, but had to paise at J to send out the international orders before their deadline. My name starting with J meant my order was fulfilled after the brief pause for international orders. At the time there was a thread about the order of card play (tried to find it, but couldn't) and I made a joke about using that same system to establish the order of cards played...

Well, the was a long explanation... that'll teach me to revive old jokes...

Good jokes are better explained than retired.
