Oppressive Rule

So, a question came up last night.

Iron Legacy's Oppressive Rule states: Iron Legacy deals 1 additional damage.  At the end of the villian turn, each hero deals themselves 1 Psychic Damage.

Legacy's Lead from the Front states: Anytime a VILLIAN card would deal damage, you may redirect it to Legacy.

(Or something close to both.  I'm currently at work.)

Because the Villian card of Oppressive Rule is the cause of damage, we ruled that Legacy would be able to redirect the damage (and we kinda needed it.)

Did we play it correctly, or because the source of the damage is the hero themselves, Legacy cannot redirect the damage?

the heroes are dealing themselves damage, not the villan, so anytime a villan card would deal damage dies not trigger

Yeah, that's what I thought, but we weren't sure.  It was a  villian card telling us to hurt ourselves, so that's why we saw it that way.  Thanks for the quick answer. :D

Since it is you dealing yourself damage, his + damage buffs do not apply. Yours do, however. 

I belive the card says whenever a villian TARGET would do damage, not a villian CARD.  I don't have it in front of me but I believe that is the case.  This is why cards tend to indicate who is attacking  (villian with highest HP for example).  I don't think any attack comes without a specific target doing the damage.

Some attacks are made by cards rather than targets - Horrid Cacophony, for example.

But yeah, any time a villain (or, indeed, anything else) makes you hit yourself, it can be pretty nasty if you have damage buffs out (eg Plague Rat's Infections when you're buffed by Galvanise and Inspiring Presence).

Oppressive Rule? I'm pretty sure it was called Demoralizing Presence...
