I had a question about this rule and one of AZ's cards Thermal Shockwave.
Thermal Shockwave: Power: Absolute Zero deals up to 3 targets 1 cold damage each. Absolute Zero deals himself X fire damage where X = the total amount of cold damage dealt by Absolute Zero this turn.
So if HP Reduced = Dmg Dealt, does that mean that if he deals two targets damage and heals himself, he only takes 2/3 of that number in fire damage?
If AZ had Focused Aperatures out and did 2 cold to two villains each and himself for 6 damage -2 heal = 4 cold damage, does he only take 4 fire damage with no other damage bonuses active?
That's kind of cool if the case, because that means he really only takes 2 damage to deal 4 damage fire damage if he also happens to have Isothermic Transducer out.

You are correct, no hp is reduced, so no damage is dealt, in your example he would deal himself 4 fire damage.

Any damage healed by Null Point Calibration Unit doesn't count toward the fire damage he deals himself as a result of Thermal Shockwave. Even if a target has 1 HP and you deal 2 cold damage it still counts as 2 cold damage towards the fire damage Thermal Shockwave would deal.

Cool. This was confusing me because at the time I asked the question I didn't realized it counted other sources of cold damage dealth during that turn. I have the box, but I play mostly on steam because I don't have many people to play with. I got confused when I had 6 health and did 4 damage and died! Now I realize that Impale didn't do me any favors :D.
Thanks for the quick replies!

If you're low on health it can't hurt to eat some of the cold damage for healing.
When you have the hit points to fuel the damage output you can put out some heavy hits.

Another thing to consider is that the cold damage that occurs from the start of the turn or during the play phase would count towards Thermal Shockwave. Impale, Fueled Freeze, and especially Cold Snap can create truly huge amounts of damage.

Too true, in the tabletop version i've started resorting to a second pile of counters to keep track of how much cold damage AZ is doing, if you let him run to amok he can end up with well over your current hp in cold damage.

That's what Twist the Ether is for. Now he's healing ridiculous amounts of damage, rather than suiciding!

I love ending the game with AZ at 1 health and the villian at negative bunches using ToE. To often though, I mess up a point here or there…
