I don't recall if we addressed this particular issue in playtesting, but figured it would be good to make the answer public either way.

If a target would be destroyed by the damage that would earn it The Unbreakable, what happens?

Here's an example scenario:

Orrim Hiveminded has taken 3 damage this round and has 2 HP left. The Unbreakable is an available title. Expatriette pulls out her shotgun and deals 4 projectile damage to Orrim. Here are some possibilities for what happens:

  1. Orrim is destroyed before he can claim the title.
  2. Orrim claims the title immediately upon taking the shotgun damage and the Bloodsworn gain 1 favor. The title's effect kicks in, undoes the 4 projectile damage, heals Orrim for 6 (leaving him at 8HP), and then the title is destroyed (shuffled back into the title deck).
  3. Orrim claims tht title immediately upon taking the shotgun damage and the Bloodsworn gain 1 favor. Since he takes no damage after gaining the title, it does not trigger and Orrim is destroyed. The title is returned to the available title pool.

I believe that item 3 best represents what would happen. This is also potentially relevant for Mindbreaker, Reckless, and Champion titles. Thoughts?

I'm leaning toward #1 myself. But I'm probably wrong. Realistically, he isn't really "unbreakable" if he just got killed.

I'm thinking #1. Since it isn't an on-destroyed effect, the target is destroyed immediately upon applying the damage, before resolving anyhting else in the game.

Here is Unbreakable

Title: The Unbreakable - After a target is dealt 6 or more damage in one turn, put this card under that target
You don't gain the title until after the damage is dealt and resolved.

Also, immediatly upon a target being reduced to 0 HP or fewer, it is destroyed and leaves play.

Orim would leave play before the title gets put under him is my interpretation.

For me 1 and 3 seem most correct.  I think 3 will win out because Orrim has to take the damage before he gets destroyed, triggering the title to show up on him, but now he dies as target destruction triggers (no damage dealt after the fact to trigger the title) and the title returns to the pool.

However, we know that Sad Bot won't trigger if he is destroyed, meaning that resolving destruction takes preceeds taking damage effects.

I just noticed that Unbreakable is the only title that specifies "After..." instead of "When...". I could see that "After" including resolution of destruction. I'm still think that 3 could be an option. Not 2.

Oh yeah.  Unless it specifically mentions an on-destruction effect it won't trigger, so no title for Orimm.

I agree, #1.  As soon as his HP drops below zero you resolve his destruction, it interrupts everything.

Here's a fun extention of it:

1.  Hero A deals Explosive Wagon 6 damage, dropping it below 0hp.

2.  Destruction effect interrupts gaining Unbreakable responding, and damage starts being dealt.

3.  Wagon Deals Hero A 3+3 damage.

4.  Hero A gains unbreakable.

For the record, I was moderating a PBF game at BGG where this came up (and I think is why grysqrl posted the thread). My ruling for was for #1 - destroyed before title can be claimed.
