Ambuscade "bug"

Last night, we were playing against Ambuscade in... Time Cataclysm? I don't remember, but there was some environment effect that played the top card of the villain deck.

Ambuscade was flipped into cloaked mode, with the Personal Cloaking Device in play. Across the players' turns, we were able to destroy the cloaking device, but Ambuscade doesn't flip back until the villain turn. 

On the environment turn, a card was played that caused the top of the villain deck to be played, which was a card that said to search the villain deck and trash and put the Personal Cloaking Device in play. When it comes into play, the Personal Cloaking Device says to flip Ambuscade, which resulted in the cloaking device being in play and Ambuscade being on his "A side" (where his damage isn't prevented.)

Is there an official ruling/errata on what to do when this happens? We let Ambuscade stay in cloaked mode, but I'm pretty sure there are multiple environments that have effects that play the top card of the villain deck, so this could come up in other situations as well.

I believe this has come up before and the conclusion was that you can have an unflipped-yet-somehow-cloaked-at-the-same-time Ambuscade. Think of it as one more way to go "lol, you're rubbish" to him as you blast him into tiny pieces ;).

Cloaking Device "should" flip Ambuscade to his cloaked side instead of just a "general" flip. I know how its worded, and thats fine, but its too far outside what feels intended for me.

I think that my printing of Ambuscade (maybe just the oversized card) has instructions to flip him as soon as the cloaking device enters play. I can try to remember to check when I get home.

Or, really, it should just make him immune to damage like a Mobile Defense Platform, and then he could have a real flip side.  Fixing Ambuscade would require more than logic on a single card, so you might as well have a good laugh while you trash him.

His flip side doesn't just offer immunity to damage, though.  It changes him from targeting the highest-HP with projectile damage to targeting the lowest-HP with energy damage, and on advanced it makes all his damage irreducible.  Very much better suited to the idea of him stealthily stalking prey, rather than just blasting with guns out in the open.  (Though I might have made it melee damage rather than energy, as that's not very stealthy.)

The players can also do this by having Tempest Into The Stratosphere his Cloaking Device followed by Omnitron-X Timeshifting it back into play.

I always thought of it thematically as Ambuscde having various cloaking fields hidden around, and the heroes end up getting to one before he does.

It happened in our storyline game, it is really cool to have him stuck without his cloak.

Ambuscade is also one of those villains who has the bad luck to be matched up against a Nemesis who can totally mess him up - on at least one occasion we've had Haka eat his Cloaking Device, meaning every copy of Vanish is just a wasted card for poor ol' Mr Frenchy ;).

I always played to the spirit that as long as the cloaking device comes or is in play I make sure he's on his invisible stalker side, Ambuscade already has a hard time being threatenung without getting messed up by his own deck...

I just played a game where Haka ate it with Savage Mana. It was really funny when Vanish was the next card off the villain deck. 

Yep that's cool when that happens - that's what I was referring to just two posts above yours - apologies if it wasn't clear enough due to my not actually mentioning Savage Mana by name.

I meant to quote your post when I put mine, but it appears that I did not. No apologies required, and I offer mine if it felt like I just ignored yours. 

It's okay - I can see from your "joined" date as well as the fact I don't recall seeing your username before that you're new to the forum and therefore quite likely new to the game as well, so may not have learnt the decks yet to the extent that you'll know what card someone is talking about just from a vague description hinting at its effect ;).

Whenever Haka eats Ambuscade's Cloaking Device I can't help but find it very amusing every time Ambuscade totally wastes his turn by playing Vanish - okay he still gets to poke someone during his End phase (plus may have devices out which shoot someone as well), but it's a waste of his Play phase, at least >:).

I don't mind Haka. Jim is very cool - I played him a lot after Shattered Timelines came out, though I like Omni-10 too :). My favourite hero is the Adept, but since Vengeance has come out the Naturalist is up there too. I like magic-based heroes who are really versatile and sort-of complicated so that you can always do something with them, regardless of what cards you have in-hand (admittedly the Adept isn't great if you have no songs, but since just under half his deck consists of songs, it's not too hard to get hold of one even if you're unlucky enough not to start with one in-hand ;)). Sometimes, though, I do just like to burn/smash/destroy stuff - so I'll take Ra or Jim or someone :D.
