Unity and Ambuscade Trading Cards

When I unboxed my order of Shattered Timelines and all the Mini-Expansions, I was frustrated to note that, having bought Unity and Ambuscade in part because there were dividers for them in the box, I now had more dividers for them.  I'm not really complaining about that, it makes perfect sense to sell them with a divider, and it makes a little sense to have had the dividers in the EE box as a teaser, encouraging you to buy more product (hey, it worked on me).

But there was also another seemingly useless...but rather cool...piece of cardboard in each of the two packages: a little summary card which describes the character's backstory, lists their complexity number, and possibly gives a little other information, I forget exactly.  Essentially, a trading card.  My Scholar and Miss Information did not come with such cards, and as far as I can tell, they exist for no-one other than those first two promo heroes (which is a little sad, as it means there's no short-form backstory for the second pair of promos, as there is in the rulebook for all normal heroes).  On some level, even though cards like these serve no purpose whatsoever, I still kind of wish ALL the decks came with one (this is the kind of wish that, upon receiving a lifetime supply free pizza, wishes it could have included a little packet of dipping sauce; I'm not actually complaining or demanding anything here, just making small talk).

Any suggestions as to what I should actually do with these things?  Or the extra dividers (I have 4 in total, since I was ordering duplicates of U and A for a friend)?  Or, for that matter, the empty Shattered Timelines box now that I have everything packed in with the EE?

The reason EE came with dividers, originally the Mini-Expansion didn't, plus Ambuscade and Unity was in the same print run as EE, so why not toss them in there to make things easier, probably cheaper as well. After the next batch of Mini-Expansions were released, they decided having them come with dividers would be easier, as to not make anyone that gets Scholar/Miss Information/Final Wasteland/Silver Gulch have to buy Shattered Timelines to gain dividers for them. The little card that is also no included was probably an idea they had when they needed to reprint the first 2 mini-expansions.

Probably the next printing of EE will only carry EE material dividers. Or they will continue to carry them for awhile longer, just incase anyone let to the band wagon of upgrading decides to buy it years from now.

My Unity and Ambuscade came without dividers, but the other mini-expansions did have them.

I have to admit, when I first got EE (but before I got really into the game) the fact that those two dividers were included in the box made me want those decks even though I wasn't even sure if we'd even get any of the expansions (forgive me, I was obviously an idiot, but in my defence I decided pretty quicky that more Sentinels = more awesome). Those dividers were mocking me with their lack of cards in front of them, so in the end I had to take them out of the box and hide them in a drawer so I couldn't see how incomplete my box looked.

Yeah. I do wonder if I have slight OCD sometimes...

My Wife's friend introduced the game to us and he had the Unity Divider in there with no cards.

I really like the game, but it was the Unity divider that caused me to look at the shattered timelines kickstarter and led me to buy all of the game.

I just had to know.

I've gotten all the expansions, so I understand your concern on what to do with the now empty boxes. But, other than just putting them up for display, I have a solution!

I usually take my copy of the game with me to meet with my friends. All the cards stay in the main box, whis is an almost perfect size for them all(Hero side is rather snug, while the villain/environment side has extra space. Maybe I should consider moving a few decks over...) But what about all the damage counters, situational tiles, instruction books, promos, and fan-made decks I have?  I don't want to carry around this big ol' swank box just to distract from it's coolness by carrying all the little tiddbits in a gallon ziplock! So what do I do?

Use the Shattered Timelines expansion box. That way I can carry all the extras safely and easily without taking away from the look of the game.

Which expansion box do you guys use? :)

Actually, I found a potential use for the box.  Usually if I want to go someplace and play, I'll want to carry choices of villain and environment, so the potential new player can get a sense of the variety.  But if you're going to a regular meetup and you know what heroes all five players will want (or which five heroes would be best for three players to choose from), and what single villain to fight in what environment...as it happens, you can fit all the decks for a single five-player game in the three spaces of the box's plastic cradle.  (Two hero decks on each side, the fifth hero and the villain and environment in the deeper center space, and for a little more room and comfort, you can put the hero character cards in the middle chamber and then distribute them before or after passing out the decks they go with.)  Thusly, you have a smaller box to carry.  (You might be able to fit at least some of the tokens under the cradle, or just keep them out in ziplocs; the result would still be less of a space hog than the full box.)

Now, if the boxes were a centimeter or two bigger in at least one dimension, it would be possible to fit eight or nine two-deck stacks into the box without the cradle, though they'd probably get mixed up in shuffling unless you constructed your own cardboard dividers to tape into the sides of the box and create compartments.  As it is, you can still do this, but you'll probably want styrafoam rather than cardboard, and it would take some doing.  You could get I think six stacks, which would amount to perhaps eight heroes, two villains (four games if you play on both regular and advanced), and four environments...plenty enough to make a decent demo version of the game.  (With this, you'd definitely have to carry the tokens outside.)

Since I'm usually with playtest cardsI already have a separate cardboard card box for those.  My published cards are also sleeved (Yes, I know how hardy the cards are but I want to protect them from greasy fingers and the horror of spills) so they don't all fit in the box.  I just keep Core/RC/IR in my Core box, and carry two cardboard card boxes (one with playtest cards, one with Shattered Timelines and the promos associated with its Kickstarter) with it in a Batman messenger bag.  It works out pretty well.
