Do you guys think there is any way we could piece together information we know about the heroes and the villians to figure out what the "Canon" fights are in the Sentinels Mulitverse?

I've only got the EE base set, so I can't figure them all out by myself (yet), but I think it would be really cool to "re-enact" the sentinels battles.  There's only 18 villians, so this shouldn't be too hard unless we also want to figure out chronological order.

Oh, and I think this thread could help too:

The obvious one is Baron Blade vs. Tachyon/Legacy/Wraith/Bunker.

I'd say that the Thorian invasion likely comes sometime shortly after that, in which Tempest must be involved.

I actually played the Silver Gulch team (Tempest/Fixer/Chrono-Ranger/Nightmist) against La Capitan in Silver Gulch, figuring that Christopher and Co. were aping the Justice League Unlimited two-parter (a temporal thief escapes to the Wild West with a bunch of stolen technology).

Oh, and one minor nitpick:  it's "canon", not "cannon".  Bunker fires an OmniCannon.  His first in-canon appearance is Freedom Four something or another.  I'm an English teacher.  Grammar matters.

Thanks! I fixed it so it isn't misspelled anymore.

At first I thought that each villain would only have one major battle (and thus it would be easy to compile the list of all known battles), but now that I'm thinking about it, some of them definitely showed up more than once.  I'm sure baron blade had several schemes that were stopped pre-terralunar impulsion beam, and omnitron rebuilt itself at least 10 times, right?  How often does Akash'Bhuta come back to create chaos? How many heroes has ambuscade tried to hunt down? and Kismet regularly finds ways to escape the block, doesn't she?

Baron Blade and Omnitron got promos, but Blade didn't stop trying to kill legacy after just 2 tries, did he? so that doesn't help us figure out how many times they fought.

Of course, some villains definitely only get defeated once.  Miss Information? probably hard to keep your job after you betray the heroes like that.  Once the Chairman and Operative are taken out I think that's pretty much it for the organization.  And after the Matriarch is defeated, all you have to do is take the mask away and she turns back into an angsty teenager, right?

So I guess the first step is probably figuring out how many times each villain was defeated.

That list of comic appearances is pretty cool, but it doesn't list what card/deck it was referenced in, which sometimes helps.

My guess is:

Make a spreadsheet. For every card, we should record:

  • What deck it's from
  • Characters in the artwork
  • Environement in the artwork (for non-environement decks)
  • Characters mentioned in flavor text
  • Comic and issue referenced in that text
  • Approximate publishing year, based on logan_mann's doc, try to list a publishing year

That should give us a general idea of the classic adventures, though not always.  Also, not all flavor text cites a comic and issue, meaning they could be showing events happening who knows when.  OTOH, it's a massive quantity of work to compile that if no one has already.

Then problem is, the game is based around team battles, but I think the comic has a lot of one-on-one battles, or battles against one off villains.

Also remember that not all the art and flavor text match up. What's going on in the card art isn't necessarily what the text describes.

Also, I don't see why a single defeat of the Chairman would put him out for good. I mean, look at how many times has the Kingpin been beaten in the Marvel Universe...

Oh.  I always assumed they linked up.  Well, dangit.

I think they mostly link up, just not always.

So I once compiled a spreadsheed with all of the card quotes, separated by comic. Once finished I realised that posting it anywhere would probably be bad, but it could help here a lot:

  • The Deadliest Game features a canon battle between Ambuscade and Haka, Expatriette and Fanatic; possibly others.
  • Baron Blade and Omnitron have both fought the Freedom Five; Tempest fought Voss with their assistance; Tempest and Fixer seem to have both fought Plague Rat with the Five; They've also fought La Capitan and the Matriarch as the Five; Visionary was with the Five fighting Ambuscade; and Kismet took on the Five.

More later.

Why would that be bad, BlueHairedMeerkat? If nothing else, I'm betting it would be a useful contribution to the wiki?

Alright, so I made a spreadsheet and went through Baron Blade's Cards.  Reading the flavor text begs the question of how long can a comic book battle last? There's quotes from FV #107 and #124 but not another until # 400 something.  Does that mean 2 seperate blade fights or just one long one?

And here's the spreadsheet, anyone who wants can edit, which would be great because I only have EE myself (going to fix that problem soon).

Edit: I above, the long fight refers to #107 until # 124, not until #400! oops

I though it would be too much game content to plonk online, but if people disagree then I can put it up somewhere. Anyway, back to canon fights:

  • There are several in Freedom 5 Annuals: Nightmist and Gloomweaver appear in one; Argent, Expatriette and Chrono-Ranger joined the five against Akash'Bhuta in another; Haka and Unity take on Ambuscade in a third.
  • Legacy, Tempest and the Visionary all take on Baron Blade in Moonfall.
  • In Mystery Comics, Fanatic, Ra and Omnitron-X team up against Apostate.
  • Nightmare World sees Unity, Haka, Ra, Chrono-Ranger, Mainstay and the Scholar taking on the Dreamer.
  • The Prime Wardens have fought Akash'Bhuta, Kismet and the Ennead.
  • Science & Progress puts together Absolute Zero, Tachyon, Unity, The Visionary and The Wraith. They may be facing Voss, but on the other hand they may just be dealing with some of his technology.
  • Singularity pits Ra, Haka, The Wraith, Fanatic and Omnitron-X against Omnitron.
  • Stranger In A Strange World involves Bunker, Tempest, Fanatic, The Scholar and Grand Warlord Voss.
  • Sunrise has Visionary, Bunker and Wraith fighting the Citizens of the Sun.
  • Currently, Vengeance features Unity, The Scholar, Omnitron-X, Argent and (presumably) La Capitan. However, I'm guessing that will change :P

I love the idea that the Freedom Five fought blade for 25 years, with one comic every month chronicling the event.  And people say that fights in Japanese comics move slowly.

Sure, he's clearly supposed to be the Doom or Luthor of Sentinels comics, with countless difference schemes and such under his belt, but who cares?  This idea is way better.

I was trying to think of ways to represent solo battles (say, Legacy vs. Blade) and I think with heavy scenario modifications, it could work.  For example:

1) Start the hero stronger.  Have him start with some number of cards in play, perhaps.

2) Weaken the villain.  Only one of the Ennead, or Baron Blade is pre-flipped, or the Chairman doesn't have the Operative along.

3) Incapacitated heroes.  Fill out the team with additional heroes, but set them to incapacitated.  This represents the hero fighting stronger in the solo battle.

4) Extra base power. This is mostly to round out a hero, to give support characters a damage power ("Legacy does 2 melee to one opponent") or to give damage characters a self-support trick ("Fanatic is immune to the next melee damage she would receive")

Not sure how *fun* that game would be, but for scenarios about reenacting solo battles, it might work.

In theory, letting a hero play 3 cards, use 3 powers, and draw 3 cards a turn would almost turn it into a 3 hero game, right? The problem would be that you don't actually have 3 powers to use every turn.  I like the incapacitated heros idea.  Maybe if a hero got to use one of their own incap abilities every turn?

Also, Baron Blade and Citizen Dawn each got a special comic for their battles (Dawns is at least 14 issues long, which would last over a year if they were published monthly).  I think I remeber that omnitron has one too?  It seems like the cards only represent one battle (shouldn't be a suprise, how many times does Baron Blade try to pull the moon into the earth), so it shouldn't be hard to figure out which battle the villain deck represents.  All the other ones though, who knows.

And I'm going to finish going through all my decks soon but I'm in the process of moving back to school right now so I won't be able to get back to it for a couple days.

You'd almost have to do away with the each power being used once only rule.
