Weird question I know, but does anyone know what Visionary wears on her feet? I'm part way through a little crochet project and I've realised that none of the cards in her deck show her below the knees!
I'm assuming that a) she's pictured in other decks and b) some of you Sentinels-encyclopedia guys know this already...
Click on the banner at the bottom of the page. It will open a picture of Visionary which will have part of her right boot showing. That's the best i've got.

Thanks Ronway, that does help. I was thinking knee-high boots made sense but wanted to get it as right as I could!
Only problem is she's wearing a green body suit thing there and the art in the deck has her in blue, with a green cape. I've used blue. So I reckon she should have blue boots to match, right?

Check out the art on Pervasive Red Dust (Wagner Mars Base, Enhanced Edition). She's literally holding a boot up to the viewer's eyeline.
(In case it's not readily available: Yeah, same color as her suit and gloves, high-heeled, with the same black trim as the gloves.)

Most likely, she might of just been feeling a little green the day that picture was taken. Not sure if her being green is better or worse when she is blue...

Right, well since I'm seeing two different colour schemes in Visionary's artwork, I made the executive decion to go with the following: Suit in royal blue, cape in green, boots and gloves in green with black trim, section of skin showing behind the lacing on the front of the suit. She matches the deck art but not the character card art or the picture Ronway posted - I had to make a decision one way or the other and I think the increased contrast using blue rather than teal is more pleasing. She's still very obviously Visionary and I'm happy with how she's shaping up.
I now just need to sew on her cape and embroider the lacing. Should be done in an hour.
Next, finish Unity, who needs new boots and some goggles.
And after that? Well, I'm not sure. Either AZ or Tempest, I guess. I plan to do them all eventually, but it might take some time! ;)

That is awesome. I love it. Also, your backyard has a tiny volcano? Super cool. I hope they base an environment off my house soon. There could be horrible cards like "Brother-in-laws pile of dirty socks" and "Screaming baby at 3am" or even "More drama about dishes."
The pile of socks card would be indestructible and put cards underneath to deal increasing amounts of toxic damage until someone skipped their turn to throw them all in the trash, then the card would deal some sonic damage and go back in the deck. That way it could just keep on happening over and over again.

Oh, and I'll definitely have a go at Mr Chomps when Unity's done, at some point. Dinosaur shapes are harder to design though (I got the patterns for them from a great site called Planet June which has awesome realistic animals if you're into crochet), but I like a challenge!
Freedom 5? Which one would you like to see first? (Not Bunker though please, he'll need a completely different pattern so I'd prefer a "basic shape" hero before I tackle that).

I always assumed he was a smaller guy, and that everything behind the head, bulked up behind the shoulders, etc. was actually where all the equipment that ran the suit was sitting. I imagined his shoulders are actually right where you would expect given where his neck comes out of the suit, farther down than where it looks like they should be. I assumed his arms sit low and forward in the armor's arms, allowing a great deal of space for the controls, mechanical aspects, etc. to go above and behind his arms, down to the hands.
Just my interpretation, though.

Apologies for the delay, but here's Tiny Unity. Various bits of her took a while to get right, especially the googles - I made the lenses from shrink plastic but had to experiment some to figure out how to do the frames.

The colours are brighter in real life - probably should have messed with the levels in Photoshop or something.

The goggles. Worth the effort I think, Unity's not Unity without them.

Tiny Unity raids my studio and collects up some of my jewellery-making supplies and tools. Wonder what she's going to make?

Well of course, a Tiny Raptor Bot! Hi Mr. Chomps!

He's about 3.5 inches nose-to-tail, and unlike my Raptor Bot prototype he stands on his own. I've been challenged to make a Bee Bot to the same scale which should be, um, interesting...

Tiny Unity considers a new bot design. The ladybird's actually life-sized, which of course makes it pretty big to Tiny Unity! Luckily it's friendly.
Next? Absolute Zero.

You're too kind guys!
I've been asked about this before, but I'm not sure it'd work. The "basic human" shape is pretty simple so I'm relying on using the correct colours and accessories to make the characters recognisable. Using silver/grey only, I don't think I'd get the details well enough for Champion Bot to be obviously Legacy, or Swift Bot to be obviously Wraith. I'll certainly attempt this but not feeling terribly confident.
Let's see… Raptor Bot probably took 4-5 hours. That's including remaking his head several times to get it just right, and all the assembly and embroidery. The crocheting itself didn't take very long. The prototype probably took 6 hours. A second bot I'd guess I could get done now in 3-4 hours.
I didn't keep track of Unity and Visionary, but it wouldn't have been a good indication of the "typical" time if I had. Unity has a lot of fiddly bits and I created the basic design as I made her, and Visionary has some time-consuming colour changes so both took a lot longer than I'd expect a more standard character to take. I'll take note of how long AZ's creation process is.
Everything's attached to Unity except the satchel. The shirt round her waist probably would slip off eventually if I hadn't sewed it on, and the bandanna wouldn't stay put at all. Besides, the fixed bandanna meant that I had to attach less hair, and hair takes AGES.

Nope. The way the designer describes it, it was inspired by those frozen flavoured ice treats that come in plastic joined together in strips. (You rip one off, cut the top off and push the ice up through the top so you can eat it, you know the things I mean. We call them ice pops, but you guys probably have some weird name for them). His kids used to fight over particular flavours so he made a rule that you could only take a pop that was at the end of a strip, and noticed how they'd persuade each other to take the next pop so they could have access to the one they wanted. And the game was born.
It's weasels because of a brand called Otter Pops.
You get points by defrosting the weasels. It's a bizarre little game.

I'm not great at drawing either, but I can guarantee that if you practice, you'll get better. So many people claim not to be able to draw, or sing, or dance, or whatever, and while I'm willing to accept that talent plays a part in all of these they're also abilities that have to be studied and practiced and "earned". I doubt even the most naturally talented artist could paint the Mona Lisa without churning out a whole lot of crap for ages before they started to get good.

I drew a lot while I was in school, all the way to about 8th grade. Used to get books on how to draw and practice all the time, still draw like crap, anything much past stick figures starts to get ugly. I can't draw straight lines without an aid, but I did learn to trace well, used to do comics of my own where I'd trace the characters into new situations. They looked good, and I learned I was much better at the story side than the art. I stopped drawing and started writing, then turned from writing to RPG's, because there is nothing better than other people telling you a story that you wrote. I've written my own world, and a decent number of campaigns, sadly my groups tend to break up before I get to do too much.
I know practice is huge, talent isn't anything without work, but you have to have the talent to start with. A lot of insanely talented people never reach the top because they go so long before they ever have to really work hard at it, and lesser talents surpass them because they know how to work at it.
SI
Silverleaf

Yeah, true. If you don't have any talent at all you'll never get good, but I guess I'm saying that everyone's rubbish in the beginning and who knows if you have real talent or not if you don't nurture it?
And even if you have precisely zero talent some practice will make your ability less crappy, and that might be enough to satisfy you.
Personally, I only really draw when I feel the need for a character portrait for one of my RPG characters or an amusing little cartoon in a note to my boyfriend or something. I'm by no means brilliant, but my drawings are recognisable and with practice I could probably become at least a little bit good. My problem is, I lack the imagination necessary to create anything interesting. I have no idea how I'd practice that!

Well AZ is still waiting to be photographed due to my tweaking him some, lack of appropriate light, dog illness, and my own health problems. I'll get to him soon, hopefully...
In the meantime I'm working on Wraith. I know she'll take ages because of all the visible hair (each stand is tied in pairs so there's a lolt of work) but the thing I can't work out is her cape. It's purple with a red lining and that's the problem. When I did Visionary's cape I used a particular stitch that creates a loose flexible piece and then I steam ironed it to get it nice and flat and smooth. If I made a two-layer cape it'd iron okay but it'd be too thick and stiff to look or move right, so I'm considering cheating and using a single colour (probably red).
But that would be WRONG.
2 layers = too thick. 1 layer = wrong. Some experimentation is in order.
And in other news, I now have the appropriate yarn and embroidery thread to make Legacy and Tachyon. (Why is it that their bios state they have dark blonde and stawberry blonde hair respectively, but in the art it looks like the same colour? Not camplaining, since it makes life much easier for me...)

By the way, if you're still trying to figure out The Wraith, don't neglect to take a look at the Pin card in Gloomweaver's deck which is stuck in a little doll of the Wraith (you can't miss it, it's the only one of the Pins where the doll is recognizeable, and not just a random poppet). It's not in crochet form, but you might get something out of checking it.
They look different to me, IIRC. Especially on Team Leader Tachyon, and her divider card; her hair is practically orange in those, as best I can picture them in my head.

It's deliberate - I'm perfectly capable of adding in more detail but I'm working in a Japanese style called amigurumi which is characterised by simplification, big eyes, that kind of thing. The only problem I'm having is how to create a double-sided cloak without having a double-thick crochet sheet, which would be too bulky to "drape" properly.
I'm going with the character cards, which are I'm pretty sure exactly the same colour. Sure, the dividers are different colours, but the lighting's completely different (Tachyon's in sunset, and Legacy in the shadow of a white light) so they can't really be compared.

I hadn't considered selling crocheted Sentinels things, for a couple of reasons. While the materials are relatively cheap, even the simpler ones take a long time to make, much longer than you'd think, so the price would have to be higher than I think is fair for a tiny doll. And more importantly, these aren't my characters and I don't feel that it would be ethical to make money from someone else's creations.
Maybe I could make a few as gifts for people I especially like though. :)
Taking pics of Tiny Crocheted Tachyon might be a problem. How do I get her to keep still? She's pretty stationary at the moment since she has no feet, but once those running shoes go on... I'll try! ;)
Fanatic? I'm not even thinking about Fanatic. Actually, now I am. Hmm. The wings will be okay, I can use a base of pipe cleaners and some fancy edging to suggest the feathers. It's the armour that'll be the problem. Still, once I've messed around with Bunker a bit I'm sure I can get that to work. It's only 3D shapes.
