Christopher said in the OblivAeon part 2 episode that they’re not going to tell us what happens to La Comodora outside time…and that they’re definitely going to do something with her, provided they keep making stuff. Well, I don’t really want to let that go without some wild speculation, do you?

Here are some things we know about La Comodora at the height of her power:

  • From the Kickstarter update announcing her: “She wears a time-locked outfit that prevents time from taking more from her than it already has.”

  • She has a cosmic awareness of timelines and realities, first described as she encountered the black void in time and later alluded to as she manipulated timelines for specific ends (such as when she talks an Adept into unsummoning void spirits). This may be an ability that we just heard, in OblivAeon part 2, that Voss gained by absorbing the power of OblivAeon. (He uses “cosmic awareness” to locate Sky-Scraper as she attacks him.)

  • She can insta-wipe a timeline from existence, a capability that we only know of one other character who has - OblivAeon itself! And it takes lots of effort for OblivAeon to do this, to the extent that it thinks up this idea to annihilate similar timelines into each other, and even to try to set that up as a self-sustaining cascade.

  • She straight-up MAKES the Hakas, in a manner very similar to the way that Wellspring makes Legacy: by triggering an early event that snowballs over generations to create and build a hero up to a power level needed to fight OblivAeon.

  • She ends up in Ur-space, a place that we only see in a glimpse of the OblivAeon comic containing shadowy figures of singular entities - or at least beings of extreme power. I think it’s not until Prime War, which is published 10+ years later, that we see Ur-space again.

I think the letter-writer in OblivAeon part 2 was on the right track. La Comodora is, at the very least, on the same power level as a singular entity. But we’ve also learned, in her Letters Page episode, that when Maria Helena Etcetera de Falcon became La Comodora, she went on a concerted effort to remove all the alternate reality versions of her earlier self that were running around screwing up time. (Curse of the Black Spot was a version of Maria Helena who “went good” while she was still young, and didn’t end well.) We also know that when La Comodora removes something from the Multiverse, she would do it by going back and preventing it from happening in the first place. For example, she erases the Iron Legacy timeline by preventing Felicia’s death. So after La Comodora’s intervention, the earlier alternate versions of La Capitan never even existed and there only one singular (hmmmmm!) Maria Helena. I don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine - given how exposure to the time-steam changed her ship and her self - that she somehow morphs into an actual singular entity, or perhaps a Prime Aspect, if she is not one already.

I wonder if, when she ran La Paradoja aground, she not only destroyed the ship and blasted herself into Ur-space, but damaged that time-locked outfit she wears. Was it arresting her progression in power? And what happens when that progression resumes? We learned in her Letters Page episode that taking off the suit doesn’t kill her by aging rapidly or anything, but the slow process of her metamorphosis might continue.

I would not be surprised to see La Comodora appear in Prime War. Given her attitudes, she would be an excellent fit on the Preservation team.

But here’s a weirder idea: what do we know about the Varusiods, Jansi vi Dero’s race? Only that they built time-observation platforms (what became The Block) and preservation/stasis fields (the Enclave) in null space/Ur-space. We know that Jansa is not a singular entity, though she is very advanced, and that she is carefully neutral. Or, at least, she’s carefully neutral in this time when Maria Helena is around. She becomes a Prime Aspect. What if La Comodora evolves into Jansa vi Dero? What if the Varusiods are a people she finds for herself - or just a name she takes, and she was always an Endling?

Her preservation of Endlings would be a natural extension/evolution of her character as La Comodora, and would play a similar role to her creation of Haka: preparing heroes for OblivAeon. Her non-interference also makes sense, as she’s avoiding mucking with the timelines like her earlier self did. Perhaps crashing the ship into OblivAeon got her “stuck” in Jansa’s past, and she’s trying to wait her way through the Multiverse, preserving and protecting what she can, until the point where she can port out and do whatever she wants again?

I’m not totally convinced, myself, and in a way I would much rather La Comodora show up as more of the character we know and love - but this is the kind of idea that fits with Christopher and Adam’s long game!

I’d suspect she turns up eventually in Prime War like you but I feel she would have to be rather depowered as her ship was a major source of her power.  I suspect when she returns it will likely be under a different name and likely altered powers.

Alternatively, one can assume that future full-sized expansions to Prime War will contain some major changes to the storyline over the base set.  I wouldn't be surprised to see La Comodora as a Prime Aspect herself.  Not a Varusiod (that seems far-fetched), just Maria Helena.  Prime Aspect of Adventure, maybe?

I think this is quite likely - I don’t think that she would become Jansa - ultimately they seems totally at odds with each other - even as La Commadora she’s focused massively on intervening in time rather than preserving things - whereas La Capitan messes with time without regard to the consequences, La Commadora makes targeted disruptions in time for specific purposes, but she’s still all about changing things.

I still have to check on this to be sure, but I believe Helena was stranded "Outside of time", which is a different place(?) from Ur-Space as far as I understand. I could see her becoming a powerful entity/god due to her weird connection with the time-stream, but if I'm right then being outside of time would get in the way of that.

My current bet, considering the map scene in OblivAeon, is that she is stranded but already has a plan to get out. Maybe she already set the events of her escape before destroying La Paradoja, or maybe there's a "treasure" that can only be reached through Outside-Time. Being there could even be a plus for her, if being there would stop the "time corruption" after losing her ship.

(Petition to change the names "Ur-Space" and "Outside of Time" to "Nowhere" and "Nowhen").

Outside of Time is Ur-Space.  So I’m going to drop my theory now-

Maria Helena is the one who ends the Prime War.  We know they’re in the same ~place~ at the same ~time,~ so it makes sense that she would be able to communicate with the Prime Aspects eventually.  But of those 5, she doesn’t seem to fit in any one of their camps- she may have conquered her former selves, but she did so to preserve the Multiverse.  At the same time, she helped progress the life of Chrono-Ranger, and so on.

Also of note; she is currently La Comodora.  And a commodore commands a small division of a fleet, like the heroes if a single timeline.  But she’s in Ur-Space now, which sets up what I predict will be her next promotion- to El Almirante (‘el’ only because it’s improper Spanish to say “la” before a word starting with “a”).  She no longer has her ship, but is herself now an immortal being with cosmic awareness, and I think she is capable of leading an entire armada of Marias Helena.  She might even- and I hesitate to say this- reopen the Sentinel Comics timeline to the rest of the Multiverse.  Probably not, but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible.

That’s not quite the rule - but also, this is part of the gag of her villain name “La Capitan.” She would definitely go by “La Almirante” if she chose that title.

I’m not super convinced that she is Jansa, myself, but Preservation does seem like the most logical Prime War team for her. Yes, she intervenes in time, but in a very methodical way and with preservation-style goals. I don’t think she fits with any of the other teams nearly as well. At the same time, she very likely outclasses Jansa in power, so I can’t quite see her subordinating herself. That’s sort of how I arrived at the original idea.

> Outside of Time is Ur-Space.

Oh, yeah, you're right. Awkward.

But I'm still going with the theory that it's all part of Helena's plan. That scene with Chrono Ranger and the must be foreshadowing of some kind.
