Spoilers for the Tempest episode

So, we learned today how Maerynian's reproduce.

We learned that they can take genetic information from people that they come in contact with while carrying an egg.

We learned that Tempest is currently carrying an egg.

So if tempest comes into contact with young Legacy, and gets some of her genetic information, would his offspring get the powers of the Legacy line? Would it then stop Paulina's first born child from being able to inherit that legacy?

You probably should put spoiler in the title just in case.

As much as I'm usually loathe to go meta, I feel the answer to this basically hinges on "Would Christopher be twisted enough to go with this?"

And now I'm stymied by the fact that I don't actually have an answer for that.

Related thoughts: "Is twisted the right word? I mean this wouldn't actually be the most horrible thing ever from a strictly objective perspective." + "Didn't Christopher once allude to there being lots of people with Legacy-esque powers at some point in the distant future?"

Not that this has anything to do with the content of your question, but the title "The Legacy and The Egg" makes me imagine some purposefully silly 1950's story in which Legacy has to recover some ostrich eggs (or some similar comically-sized large eggs) stolen from the Megalopolis Zoo while at the same time getting calls from Mrs. Parsons reminding him to pick up eggs from the grocery store on his way home...  The threives are of course apprehended and the eggs returned to their rightful place, but the comic ends with a baby ostrich hatching in the Parsons' kitchen because somehow he got one of the eggs mixed up.

Actually I have it on good authority, my own because I am making this up, that in the 1960s in the campy live action the Wraith show Vincent Price played an egg themed super villain. So there you go

Hey, if your gonna make things up,ya might as well base it off one of the greats.

on a seperate note: I feel like if that happened it would be one of the biggest ass-pulls in the history of comic-book-based-fixed-deck-based-card-games and I don't know why.

on a seperate seperate note: the title made me think of a childrens fairy tale. But with sentinels characters.

Now I kinda want to see what a series of fairy tales with Sentinels characters would look like. You know somebody in the Publishing Universe would dream up such a thing.

I'm torn between being disapproving of the puns and then realizing that the sentiment I want to express is "Look I hate to rain on everyone's jokes, but I was really enjoying the discussion of cheesy fake TV shows, Sentinels-themed fairy tales, and the fact that Maerynian reproduction is the ultimate crack ship generation device" and now I hate fandom jargon for making me have to add to the pun chaos anyway.

I mean, really, Tempest will probably end up with no shortage of heroes willing to volunteer for babysitting duty.

Of course, the category of "people Tempest could actually trust to do a good job with babysitting duty versus being well-meaning but terrible" is probably a fair bit smaller.

(And then there's the categories of "Heroes who probably have a polite but uncomfortable reaction to children" and "Heroes who have to try to come up with the most tactful way of saying they just kinda hate kids of any species".)

I was about to say, "Well, duh, he'll just leave the kid with Haka, Haka is big and indestructible and loves kids and loves teaching people, he's the perfect babysitter", and then I remembered that the Haka who would do that is stuck in the wrong universe and now I'm sad.

I am also imagining Tempest's kid having the combined abilities of the entire Prime Wardens because Tempest spends so much time with them -a little Void-wielding winged super-strong weather wizard who forms lightning constructs.

TR

So, it's not just Tempest who can bear an egg this way....and ALL the Maerynians have these powers.

If a human visits Plavucol, how many Maerynians do they come in contact with? How many of those are egg-bearing?

XM
X-metal

well the constructs and void crud aren't really genetic and I'm not entirely sure what fanatics situation is genetically so just about the only thing that is definitely possible for sure is a super strong weather wizard.

So, per the Prime Wardens episode, it’s been “YEARS” since Tempest became egg-y. And Christopher reminded us that Maerynians mature in about a decade.

Sooooooo, Tempest’s offspring seems well in the running for a mission reward, huh?

Or - if there’s to be a dark turn - where in the alphabet was that blanked-out spot again? Somewhere around ‘T?’

The Void part might be genetic, the music talent part who knows.

It happened after Plavu'Col was established, which I think was probably a few years before Progeny showed up, the time frame is a little vague. So Tempest's kidlet is probably reaching maturity during the time the story picks up again in both the RPG and Tactics.

…the latter of which makes me feel pretty bad for the kid considering everything we know about the Tactics universe.

If Tempest's kid does count as the next Legacy, comic book ageing will make this pretty darn weird.  Felicity is still a young adult, barely out of her teens, but the young Maerynian has to be at least 10 to be fully mature.  That would mean Tempest got Felicity's DNA, and made her a "mother," when she was a preteen.  That's... icky.  Except we know of course that Felicity was wearing the Legacy costume and doing superhero stuff by the time Plavu'Col was established.  Best not to think about it too hard.

I mean the timing of everyone's ages is weird in general.

Only Legacy is described as "middle-aged", but really you'd think a lot of people should be at this point: Wraith, Bunker, Expat, Setback, Argent, Naturalist... Meanwhile we should probably be calling AZ "grandpa" since IIRC he was actually older than Legacy (I'm sure he'd just love that one).

Comic book time, yo.

Plavu’Col was founded around the return of Tempest and the relaunch of the Prime Wardens book, which hit issue #60 (5 years of monthly publication) for the death of Ra near the beginning of the OblivAeon event proper. The issue in the RPG Starter Kit is #67. Comic book time is weird, but that’s what we can look at for publishing timeline.

Edit for more: the ARG lists PW #36 as the earliest issue for the Progeny encounter (on the “Genocidal” page) and issues #49-54 are the XPW arc.

Why is keeping track of this stuff so difficult? D: Is this what reading comics is actually like?

JE

Oh, no, this is easier than what reading comics is actually like.

There are cousins in the Inhuman royal family where the one born second is now about twice as old than the one born first.

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage's kid has been a toddler for decades, except for said kid's alternate future adult self that is also running around.

Trying to make sense of the Summers family tree could probably serve as a thesis for quantum mechanics.

It's Franklin Richards that annoys me, that kid was born in 1970 and is still a kid.

As for the Summer's, "Achieving Quantum control via shortcuts to adiabaticity" is indeed a simpler topic than their family tree

does he even actually exist?

Then theres superman where everyone from krypton is seemingly related to him one way or another. Even the dog. Especially the dog.

and that's just family trees.

theres also the blasphemy that was civil war and the spiderman story arc after it "one more day"

Well, when you consider the fact that Superman's father, mother and close family were the only ones to accept the fact that Krypton was dying, it makes some sense that most of the survivors are related to Clark Kent.

I know making another pun would be walking on eggshells, but I just googled the Summers Family tree, and it's cracked. (Like, more cracked than an Iphone screen.) I tried to figure it out, but now my brain's fried.

Okay, fine. Back on topic. I do really like the possibilities for RPG characters (As if we don't hve enough of those) and feel really sorry for Tempest's kidlet if he shows up in Tactics.

Also, Jeysie posted this in another thread, but it takes a new (and, stranger) meaning now.

Here's a Disparation idea: When the refugee ship crashes on Earth, Tempest immediately goes into an egg-bearing phase like many of the other Maerynians.  He then meets up with the Freedom Five, as in the canon universe, but does so before Young Legacy is born.  Tempest's child is then the next Legacy in place of Felicia.  Hijinks ensue.
