I asked about whether there were any meaningful interactions in the losers' room, but it sounds like there wasn't enough to be worth answering the question. Ah well.

We had meant to ask how Gloomweaver was able to weather the storm of more experienced blood mages Biomancer and the Blood Countess here, but was picked apart by Lifeline later.
I forgot to say that I must dissent with Christopher in that I think Harpy conjuring birds out of her own flesh to do battle actually sounds really hardcore wicked awesome and that this is probably why I shouldn't be allowed to write things ever.
I mean, that does sound wicked awesome... but that's not how her power works.

Since you were talking about possible alternate contest brackets and the overwhelming power that is Progeny, I thought I'd posit a question that a friend and I had been talking about last week.
If Progeny battled Chokepoint, would Chokepoint be able to pretty much tear apart and commandeer Progeny's liquid metal body? Or does Progeny's form only resemble metal and is actually some form of solidified cosmic power/exotic matter/etc that Chokepoint has no power over? Or as a third option, is its body actually metal, but it could maintain control despite Chokepoint's efforts?

About 90% of my creative output in my life has fallen under the categories of "disturbing" or "funny but also disturbing".
So generally when I say anything is creepy or disturbing there should be an understood "and that's totally awesome" tacked on the end of it.
So yeah. Conjuring birds out of your flesh? I could go for that. Or ripping off the wings of your enemies and grafting them onto yourself. Or portaling combatants into the Void. It's all good. And by good I mean creepy and disturbing.
P.S. Mind, I also have an equal fondness for things that are sweet, adorable, and/or corny. Reconciling this is left as an exercise for the reader.

This is nothing. I stole the idea of the Bad Idea Thread from the Whateley Universe forums, where their Bad Idea Thread is over 1500 posts long and includes such delightful morsels (warning: not for the faint of stomach) as this, this, this, and this.
(That last one actually got turned into a pair of characters in a serious story, by the way).
Mmm, two of those (the second and fourth) are just gratutious, though. IMHO it's boring to be edgy just for the sake of shock value. You have to make it so the horrible thing grants you something one, interesting that two, couldn't be done without the horrible thing.
Also the third is IMHO more simply alien than horrifying. The first is pretty interesting, though. It's basically the difference between psychological horror versus schlock, and I like that Sentinels tends to rely more heavily on the former than the latter. A lot of what's scary in Sentinels is more surreal and unsettling than simply gross or shocking.
Even someone like Biomancer who is gross still relies more on being creepy for his actual scariness; it's not just that he can shape flesh, it's that he can do it to steal who and what you are. Stuff like the Realm of Discord or the Void is unsettling because it's unnatural and eldritch and can bend and twist your state of being. Poor Mr. Fixer's fate is freaky because it's sort of morbidly ironic and defies natural states of being. Etc.
There is particularly a theme of helplessness going on. Spite preys on loners who have nobody they can call for help. It's implied that blood magic users like Hermetic or the Crimson Conductor could simply drain the life force from people without them even knowing it was going to happen until it was too late. The Void can erode you just by getting into contact with you, or weird things can reach out and drag you into it. There's a number of beings like Gloomweaver or The Host that can feed off emotions. It's that removal of agency that makes it frightening, even if the resulting misery technically isn't gory.

You're definately right though. The story that focused on Host and Tapeworm was not a horror story, focusing instead on the inherent drama of two siblings having to deal with living in such… close proximity.
