What better way to celebrate Boxing Day than by learning about a differnt type of fighting, onwards to the colosseum!

No, I did not see the joke on the download page until after I had conceived of mine, but Christmas is the time of rubbishy jokes so it's OK.
So I managed to accidentally ask a bunch of questions everybody else asked again. >_>; But they got answered so I can't really complain.
I like that the Colosseum is treated as being a really weird intergalactic cruise by the audience; I find that amusing.
I also like that there's essentially a thematic equivalent to Patsy Walker in the Sentinels universe; that's awesomely hilarious and totally not something I was ever expecting.
Also, @Lord Flash Fire, if you happen to read this: I changed my mind from the Cosmic Contest thread; NOW I agree with you that Anthony is pretty scary. Like geez louise, that was pure nightmare fuel there, dude.
There are no words to describe the feeling of S'sdari the Bloody -- a character unremarkable as a card save for "I hope she doesn't come out while I'm playing Unity/Captain Cosmic" -- suddenly becoming my favorite character in Sentinels. c.c I want, no, need a Fashion hero deck with a S'sdari variant. Come on, that story is just amazing! And it all came from my favorite villain. :D
Nice reveals about the way titles are awarded, and also how the Coliseum became more complex over time
The ture idenity of the Bloodsworn entity can only be…
We are glad to hear that Kaargra understands the importance of showmanship. Its amazing what you can get the masses to cheer for with catch tunes, bright lights, and snazzy costumes.
Breaking character, I was thrilled that my letter's reference to Greazer was caught upon. And I loved Fashion. There is sadly often a lack of superheroes that engage in tradionally feminine hobbies like fashion, and an inventor who makes cool gadget outfits to fight crime is awesome.
Sadly being hated by fans in the 80s or 90s and written off is a very realistic response from the comic community…heck, it would likely even still happen today in some circles. Still, very cool character. I fully intent to steal the concept for my RPG, though I might ditch the backstory and let her start fresh.
It would, since as I alluded, Patsy Walker was a similar supermodel romantic comic turned superhero character, and she is a bit divisive. (More or less hardcore fans often dislike her and lady fans and lighthearted fans often like her.)
Shame because I agree, gadget outfits are wicked awesome. I know if I was a mad inventor I'd totally want to be one with style. It also reminds me of Hedy Lamarr, who was a talented inventor in addition to being a beautiful actress.
Also, I feel like your Cult should get in touch with Argent; dude clearly has a flair for causing fear and nightmares in extreme circumstances.
We would love to have any virtuosos join. We understand the power of music, one of our relics is a drum for gloomssake.
Where in the OblivAeon rulebook does it mention the Bloodsworn? I can't find whatever the one question was referencing.
My understanding is that "Summoning the Bloodsworn Coliseum" is one of the rewards one can get through the Mission Deck.
If you look at the example setup up in the rulebook you can see the "Summoning the Bloodsworn" mission card
Edited to correct spelling
I wonder if C&A maybe possibly mixed it up with the "Bloodstone", which is specifically called out in the page 14 miscellany.
Ah, I see it now.
Yeah, I was looking mostly on page 14.
As do I. I admit I mostly skimmed over that bit because in the Dropbox browser preview frame + my rotten eyesight it mostly was five blurs against a few blurs in a couple blurs. >_>; (Finally opening it in a proper PDF program helped, though.)
I can see Fashion being a very problematic character in this modern age. If written well she could be a bad ass with style but written badly she could easily be a stereotype
I'm definitely making Fashion in the RPG, I already had a similar idea that just needs some small alterations.
Will she be 'Classic' Fashion, or Fashion hardened and brutal after her experiences in the Colliseum?
You know, stories like that always have me thinking about the people left behind – Shirley had friends and family and allies among the heroes. It must have hit them pretty hard that she was basically kidnapped into that kind of brutal slavery.
"What are you Worried about Heddy? It's 1884 You'll be able to sue HER! ahaha" ~ Governor WIlliam J. Lepetomane
Sorry, had to make the reference, Harumph!
anyway,
I think what would be kinda interresting is like, a post OblivAeon story where all her friends are all excited because "YaY Fashion is comin home" & then … you know… Is she? some interresting psychological themes to explore there,
Now I'm really interested in how summoning the colliseum works.
Will the flip side be a character card, like Kaargra jumping into the fray?
Will it be a Title you can give to your character?
What I'm hoping for (but consider unlikely) is something like, "Put the gladiators into play. Treat the cards as if any instance targetting hero targets instead damages Aeon Men."
@The Burning Stickman: If you want to be spoiled, it was one of the Mission Cards that Christopher sneak peeked yonks ago: https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/christopher-tweets-oblivaeon-playtest-image-10351
Aah, so I was way off.
Classic Fashion, she'll go into battle in a full sequined ballgown to dazzle her enemies with oppulence.
It’s Hedley.
Is anybody else getting more and more put off by the Argent Adept as we learn more about his abilities? He seems to be WAY overpowered as a single combatant with abilities that do WAY too much at once, especially given how supporty, plinky, and self-comboy his deck is.
To me it makes sense since I've always seen the Virtuosos as having strong parallels to being the magical equivalent of the Legacies. They're both long lines of people who pass down a heritage of extremely powerful abilities used to protect people, just with the Virtuosos passing down knowledge instead of genetics.
So both Legacy and Argent hold back their abilities to leading and supporting their allies, because we've seen they both have the sort of personality who prefers to handle things in less-lethal ways where they can. And much like Iron Legacy was absolutely terrifying when he felt like he had his back put against the wall, so is Argent.
Makes sense to me in a RL comic analogy, too. I feel like the Void reminds me in many ways of the Superflow, and the Starbrand connected to the Superflow is also more or less a "do whatever your mind can dream up" kind of power.
P.S. Also bear in mind that Visionary is connected to the Void and she's also pretty stupidly powerful.
I feel that way more about Fanatic than anyone else.
Yeeeeeeeah, I'm with Phantom5613.
On top of what I said above, it's been established that Argent's still very much human; there's been several instances that have made clear he's as physically vulnerable as a skinny guy who has no physical combat skills would be in any circumstance where his ability to wield his magic is curtailed somehow.
Meanwhile, I really don't see what about Fanatic's origins (even with all the info in her podcast) should make her capable of doing the increasing amount of literally godlike shenanigans she's been established as doing.
This argument would make sense to me if his deck gave him lots of different situational special abilities. Things like making targets unable to deal damage, putting cards in play back into their decks, redirecting damage, making a hero’s damage irreducible, making decks unable to play cards, and whatnot. Then, I could easily imagine that if he unleashed his magical abilities, he’d be able to do all the things we see him doing in the lore. I’m just thinking that, based on his deck alone, it seems like if he unleashed his abilities he’d be able to put +1 damage on ALL hero targets instead of just TWO.
I kind of agree about Fanatic, too, but in her case, at least her deck has Wrathful Retribution and a couple other big-slam power cards - even if they are spaced out by plinky or more situational cards. In her case, I guess her deck represents Fanatic when she’s not yet embraced her full power. And her Prime Wardens variant adds a whole lot of power to her play. Argent Adept, on the other hand, has variants that basically just change the way he activates his Ongoing and support abilities.
Maybe he starts using Sarabande of Destruction against villain targets?
@Trajector: I admit I thought you meant working from a storytelling standpoint.
Because C&A have said on a number of occasions that everyone's deck is just a snapshot of their abilities that makes sense both for that specific point in time and for gameplay purposes. IIRC they specifically said in Argent's podcast he can "do pretty much anything with Void energy" and so his deck is necessarily limited.
(I admit to being rather interested at this point in both Tactics and the RPG re: Argent and Virtuoso characters in general.)
I tihink it comes down to the fact that, like Christopher and Adam have gone on record saing, the character's deck can't possibly show every single thing a character can do in the comic. So of course we're gonna be surprised by how powerful someone is gonna be in a story from later on in their book's history when we have a static deck that only has so many cards.
I dunno, this is right up the alley of the Adept. He gets Combo-absurd:
1. Silver Shadow lets you activate an accompany; use Alacritous Subdominant to trigger Xu's Bell for +1 Damage, then get another power use off your second Subdominant.
2. Your second power use goes to the Lyre, which blows up Xu's Bell to kill a Gladiator and then hits Gladiator #2 for 2 damage.
3. You still have a card play. Play Silver Shadow. Hit Gladiator #2 for 2 damage. Then play Polyphoric Flare. Deal yourself 3 damage, and then use that power use to trigger the Harp, killing Gladiation #3 and hitting Gladiator #2 for another 2 damage (total 6, possibly killing them).
4. You still have a power use. Use it on the Pipes to trigger both your Melodies of Frost and Flame, hitting one gladiator for 8 damage and killing them.
That's four gladiators out in one go.
