The Letters Page! Episode 24 Discussion - Deadline / Lifeline

Our newest episode on a villain turned hero Deadline/Lifeline.  Is he the savior we need to defeat OblivAeon?

Hopefully the bear isn't still holding Christopher/Adam hostage.   Unless it's to make more Letters Page episodes then I might be ok with it.  

I love the comic book/game logic where a villain shows up and is a threat to 3-5 heroes, then gets a significant power up and is now 1/5 - 1/3 of a threat to a single villain roughly as powerful as they themselves were to begin with.

'Course, that's more true for Deadline than any of the other villain-turned-heroes, since Deadline is such an easy villain.  But still.

In more serious news, lots of exciting info about Scions and OblivAeon snuck into this one.

I'm quite surprised Christopher didn't say that bear was bearing arms at them.

Anyone else get a feeling the entity Lifeline creates in the RPG timeline is one of the new heroes part of Legacy's, Pauline Parsons, Daybreak team?

Possible but I think anything generated by Lifeline, unless the other heroes had no idea about it, would have a hard time gaining acceptance.  

That was my first thought as well.

It can't be a coincidence that Deadline/Lifeline, who operates knowing (well, at least believing) he cannot be forgiven, became an Endling when his race and planet were destroyed by Faultless, who is not to blame for what it does, right?

(Aside: I like that that's the meaning of "Faultless." I thought it meant "without flaw," but this is a more interesting take.)

It's a very subtle difference but does create a very different character for sure.

My 8-year old understood why this is extra sad, "because Bloogo's the last of his kind".

Without going back and checking is Jansa the last of the race that craeted the Block as an observetory? The race mentioned seems familiar (in this episode and Sgt Steel's) and the ability to create a pocket dimension seems to point to it as well.

Yes it was built by the same race as Jansa reviewing notes from the FILTER episode.

I think that would make the entity’s story more interesting. Having to deal with the sins of the father.

That's what it was! I knew "Varusiod" sounded familiar, but I was thinking they'd made the Celestial Tribunal. I don't think that race has been named yet, though. Good catch!

I'm looking forward to seeing Captain Cosmic's comforter in future art.

Which he will be using to declare war. Obviously, what else could it be used for?

I thought that this episode presented one of the more compelling, high-concept stories we’ve seen yet from Christopher and Adam. Deadline’s actions and attitudes as Lifeline make him unique in Sentinel Comics. It’s interesting to think about him as one of the few villains to think of what he does as evil… While still being calculated and purposeful. I’m with whoever thought he needed a hug. And I hope his character continues to evolve on his space adventures.

I added a couple Deadline events to the wiki timeline.

He realizes what he did was evil but thought he was doing it for the right reasons.  He still feels he did it for the right reasons and is part of why he feels he shouldn't be forgiven.  He contrasts highly with the theme of the Naturalist who believes people deserves forgiveness/second chances.

We need a spin-off series Tarrogath: The Unforgiven.

One of the things that got me jumping up and down is when they said Targoth was making something with Oblivaeon's energy "and let the energy shape what it wanted to be"

NO! Nononononono, No! That is the worse plan, that is the absolute worst plan. Oblivaeon seems to have been mostly sentient energy, you don't let something that powerful and dangerous choose its own form. And we know it ended up as Sentient Energy... AND HE LEFT IT BEHIND ON ITS OWN!

IF it turns out to be a hero, that is amazing and I'm fascinated by the possiblity (any DBZ fan who remebers Uub?) but 99% likelihood that he just unleashed a new and dangerous villain into the mix.

Why would you do this Targoth, you were on a path of acceptance before this.

Finally getting caught up on these, and wanted to state that rarely is a character proclaimed dead on the podcast and that character is actually dead.
