So now that GtG has a game that has dice, is there any chance for Sentinel themed dice towers? Maybe a Freedom Tower or MDP? Maybe? Here's hoping.

I've never used nor seen the appeal of dice towers until now…

My wife seems incapable of rolling dice is a small contained area.  No matter how careful she tries to be, they scatter off the table and all over the board.  Until we got her a dice tower.  Now she can live a normal life like everyone else.  Thank you, Litko Cthulhu-themed dice tower.

An "F"-shaped Freedom Tower dice tower would be pretty wicked too, though.

Yeah, my boyfriend is pretty awful about keeping dice on the table. I'm a little scared that, with these small dice, his dog is gonna find a tasty six-sided treat. I may think about making an acrylic FV dice tower. Can't imagine it would be too hard, since I already have the tools.

Not to mention, you might have to wait a day to find out what he rolled.

What tools do you use for making things out of acrylic? I would usually think laser cutter or water jet, but these aren't things that most people have access to.

3D printer? Also not a thing normal people have access too, but then again we’re hardly normal.

You can cut acrylic pretty easily with a fine-toothed power saw.

Yes.

My boyfriend can’t roll dice without getting at least one on the floor. -.- we recently moved abd while I was vacuuming the sofa I find a tactics die… we only played twice…

I've got a dice tray. I've still had people toss the dice and miss it. And that was with it sitting right in front of them.

My wife is the same way.  She can't keep dice on the table to save her life, even when we're not playing games.  While going through a few boxes, she found a little bag with a few d20-system sets in it.  Little dice, maybe 1/4 or 5/16 of an inch at their widest point.  She set the bag on the coffee table in the living room, where we do most of our gaming on.  Ever since, I've been finding the dice with my bare feet.  Nobody but her has touched that bag, and the dice are all over the floor.  It's true, by the way: d4s do make excellent caltrops.

I would so be down for a Sentinel Tactics-themed dice tower; especially one that looked like Freedom Tower.

Just have to hold on until the poster map comes out.

I have seen a castle themed dice tower made out of card stock. I will have to look for that file and see if maybe someone with phot skills could putsentinels artwork on it.

I just swiped a papercraft dice tower template from the netterwebs and am going to play around with it to see if I can make a simple Tactics-flavored one.

Here's a v1.0 prototype and some thoughts:

1) I shrank the template by 50% because I didn't want it to take up as much table space as regular-sized dice towers.

2) Because of the smaller size, that means it can't handle a gigantic handful of dice at a time, but as you can see from the pic, it can handle up to 8 dice pretty comfortably.  Given that you're usually rolling between 3 and 6 dice in Tactics, I think that should be acceptable.

3) Also because of the smaller size, I took out one of the internal ramps.  Dice towers usually have the dice bounce off of two ramps before hitting the final ramp at the bottom.  I'm thinking two total ramps inside should be sufficient.

4) I'm going to change the exit arch from an arch to a hex, because that'd be cooler.

5) I am seriously considering getting rid of the ramparts at the top and going with something simpler.  The ramparts do make it look like a little medieval tower, which is cute, but it unnecessarily complicates the construction process, so if I can get to something I like without the ramparts, I will.

Anyone have any feedback I should incorporate into the design?  I'd hate to end up with something people won't use because I missed something important.

Part of me wishes it was F shaped but that would not add usability...

I now have a vision of a Freedom Tower-shaped dice tower.

I can't tell if it's a good vision, though.

Yep, an F-shaped would have been nice, but having done the 3D F-shaped terrain for the maps, I can confidently say that the complexity of the tower would go up if I were to go in that direction.

2.0 version:

The new design (left) is cleaner.  I need to move a few flaps around that I'd put in the wrong places, but I think my next version can have art on it.

The F shape doesn't need to be functional, if adding pieces for just decoration doesn't unbalance it it should be pretty easy to glue on the other pieces.

Now we're cookin' with gas:

There are still a couple of minor tweaks I want to make before I post the file to my site, but I think it's looking pretty good.  The dice jump out of the tray more than I'd like (maybe that third ramp I took out was to slow down the dice...), but I should be able to get things to a good place soon.

Ooh, that's nice. How does the cardstock you're using hold up to repeated rolling?

That’s really nice. Have you tried it with smaller dice?

Since I just made it an hour ago, I have no idea how it holds up.  It doesn't seem like it takes much of a beating from just dropping dice through it, so my guess is that squishing it in boxes to store and move it will cause more damage than actually using it.

I've only tried it with the official dice.

I think I can alter the velocity of the dice through the tower by moving the top inner ramp lower.  If that works, I'll be all set.

The file for the dice tower has been posted to my Tactics site, for anyone who's interested.

I think >G should kickstart a couple Sentinel themed dice towers for Tactics. I'll back that. Plus how is your acrylic dice tower doing Craig?

I'd use them! Awesome work Spiff. I'll bet you could raise the height of the tray if they have a tendency of shooting out.
