Anyone see the new Star Wars trailer? Looks like we are going to get a lot of Han Solo, not so much Leia and Luke. Hoping one of the new characters turn out to be secretly a skywalker. Like the idea of the skywalker family being front and center of the Star Wars universe.

I am expecting it to not be good.
But I am hoping so very much that it will be good.
After having my hopes completely crushed by the prequels, I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm assuming they'll be okay and be full of action, but I'm not expecting anything overly awesome...
Yup. I watched it last night as soon as it was revealed. And now I'm watching it again, over and over.
I really want it to be good. But I haven't bought any of the fun Episode VII merchandise yet, just in case it's The Phantom Menace.
This is the film that the ten year old me has been waiting... well, has been waiting quite some time for, let's just say that shall we? So of course I will be there, good or bad, and probably more than once, even though I'm not particularly keen on Abrams previous body of work.
I understand that the trailers and merchandise only reflect the first third of the movie so there could well be plenty more of the other characters in the latter part of the action. We haven't seen Threepio yet either despite him being in the poster, have we? I am totally sure that Daisy Ridley will be a Skywalker, probably Leia's daughter (and Han's?)
ya will agree that daisy Ridley will more than likely be a skywalker. Not sure how fighter pilot will fit into this yet based off trailer. Wouldn't be surprised the black guy, forgot his name, ends up being lando son
I’ll just point out that the music playing over the “Star Wars: the Force Awakens” card at the end of the trailer is LUKE’S THEME.
Sorry, nothing in this trailer "wowed me" as much as the second teaser, not more excited by this latest release.
I think what a lot of people disliked about Star Trek (the pessimism of the world building) may work better in Star Wars, which is, in many ways, an inherently pessimistic universe.
Personally, I'm excited for it, but like most Star Wars fans, really nervous that they're going to screw this one up. The trailer and teasers we've seen so far are good, hopefully it'll live up to that.
Just two cents, we'll see what it's worth later.
I didn't like the complete lack of character development in Star Trek. I expect to not like the lack of character development in Star Wars. Because nobody bothers to do character development anymore. It is why the new Doctor Who is not very engaging, they haven't developed the characters, they just give them "tough" choices that aren't really tough.
I do wonder whether this is primarily due to the behaviour of directors or the material and conditions they have to work with, as set out by the writers and the studio. It must be a massive responsibility to manage a creative project that costs hundreds of millions of dollars, so although I resent Abrams having previously been (imo inaccurately) compared to both Spielberg and Donner I do respect his ability to get such massive movies across the line and in profit; I just think that they end up being very safe, neutral, bland movies. As you say, lacking in character development and I would also add light on theme as a result, or maybe the cause, of this. A rebel who has to make tough choices and learns how to be responsible is a character and not a theme, but it seems to be considered enough to hang a huge movie on these days. Maybe it's always been enough and we've just been spoiled with some of the early sci-fi endeavours - you only have to look at both the Aliens and Terminator franchises to see how bland and superficial they have become.
Often characters come down to a few attributes they shove in your face. I probably have way too high of expectations because I do watch a lot of older movies, and especially love Kurosawa and Bergman films. Although, honestly, Ed Wood created more engaging characters than we see in a lot of newer shows and movies.
Of course that really just reflects the world right now as it seems most people look to outward solutions to their problems and dreams instead of inward. There is so much talk of entitlement, but mostly it is people looking to the external to provide them with what they desire, when that doesn't really work. But then that is just my opinion.

Hey I like the prequel trilogy and the phantom menace is my second favorite star wars movie of all time.
Different people tend to like different kind of characters. On the subject of Doctor Who, I was never a huge fan of Rose. I found her to be a bit bland. I actually found the character of Clara engaging and interesting. Things like that simply depend on personal story preference. The question really is do the characters fit and belong in the kind of story being told. Indiana Jones was a never horribly complex character, but he's still engaging because he's the kind of character needed for those movies to work.
Get out.
I quite liked Revenge of the Sith myself. Should I see myself out, too? :(

That one at least deserves being called “Star Wars,” so you can stay. 
Make me. Oh and I liked the prequel trilogy more than the first one but my favorite is episode 7 as of now. I have a bad feeling about this.
Quick, without thinking about it more than a minute, describe for me any character from The Phantom Menace without mentioning their clothing or job title.
Now do the same for any character from the original trilogy. Should be much easier…
