It's happening. Best news of e3 so far
About time. We've had a movie sequel, a prequel, and some other spin offs, but we're finally getting a remake.
Why is a remake a good thing? Doesn't the original still exist? Genuinely confused here.
Hardware limitations have changed drastically over the years, and it's kind of cool to see what the game could look like run on a new gen console. It's basically like restoring a work of art or making a new edition of a book. The question of whether or not how good it is will be dependent on how much is changed, but at the same time, I would at least like to see FF7's story and aesthetics attempted with modern hardware and the ability to have voice acting to both tell the story and better define the characters…
I played that one a bit but never really got into it. I know it's been a wish from fans for a long time to get a remake out. At this point with the amount of rumors of it being remade over the years, I'll believe it when it actually releases.
Great game, but now it is really dated. Not just graphics either, the gameolay doesn't hold up.
How does the gameplay not hold up? The basic mechanics of the game were pretty solid, and the materia system is still a great way to customize characters even in today's market. The mechanics of most classic videogames like Mario and Chrono Trigger I would say still hold their own in the modern world, which is why people still play these games.
I'd totally play through it again. Never did kill the emerald weapon.
You can play it on Steam if you don't want to wait for the remake.
Terebinth so two ps4 versions coming. The first is the of version that came out a while back. So just better cut scenes. The second version is the remake. This is redone from the top to bottom and has been on everyone's wish list for a while that are fans of final fantasy. I think they got the hint when they were announcing the pic version at last e3. They started off by making it sound like a remake, got everyone excited and then said the words pc version and everyone cried and sent angry letters to square. So ya.
its like one of those moments at this e3 where during the Sony press conference, they started playing Star Wars music and everyone was like battlefront yay, and then out walks the Disney infinity guy and the whole audience goes quiet and stops applauding while he was out there since no one cares about that game.
Sold! Thanks for the heads up Pydro.
Guess how much productive stuff I got done today?
Close. You're approximately 3 out.
You all know she's still going to die in the remake right?
God, Matchstickman, why did you have to put spoilers in this thread?
Because I didn't give a damn for her character?
Because I was never that impressed with the original?
Because I don't consider it an RPG?
Take your pick!
Since there isn’t an option for all of the above, it is only one of them. Which one…
The problem is that Final Fantasy VII was a very graphics-driven game; it primarily sold off the FMV cutscenes, which at the time were quite rare in console games. Any graphics-driven game tends to become rather underwhelming as time goes on. Now if you go back and play V which was driven by gameplay or VI which was driven by the story, then you can still enjoy them greatly even if you have no nostalgic attachment to it, but VII was ultimately forgettable for anyone that didn't grow up during that era.
You know I was kidding right? At this point in time, it's not really a spoiler. It's kind of like Gwen Stacy dying in Amazing Spiderman 2. Sorry, spoiler.
I knew you were kidding but I figured I would answer your post with something akin to the truth of the reason before you die tomorrow. Sorry, spoilers.
What time? How long? Is it samurai ninja robots? Please tell me I go out fighting samurai ninja robots.
I can't say anymore or my TARDIS will get clamped, sorry.
Back on the subject at hand, was FF7 the best of the FFs for people who played through them all/most of them?
I'm not sure how much I can agree with this given the large fanbase Seven has managed to acquire. The use of cutscenes was definitely a factor in Seven's success, but part of it is also how those cutscenes were combined with the gameplay to create an epic experience. Now, not everything about the story is perfect, Disc 3 is just mostly filler, but it was good enough to keep people engaged. The game also still has one of the best introductions I've ever seen. You instantly know the genre, the main character, and the world aesthetics and conflict all while learning how to play the game in a way that's intuitive, fun, and doesn't feel overwhelming.
While the graphics are dated, people's love for the game isn't. Fans of the series hold on to it just as much as Six or Five. As far as the remake goes, the only main thing I hope they change is to make it so that your Limit command doesn't replace Attack. I'd actually like to see elements of Ten's overdrive system incorporated.
While 7 is considered great, 6 is often considered the best.
Depends on who you talk to, but yes, 6 is pretty amazing and also has a great intro sequence. For me though, Chrono Trigger still blows everything else out of the water.
I find IV to be my personal favorite. I have only beated IV, VII, and X. Though I have played all of them up to X and also played XIII.
In my opinion, VI was the best Final Fantasy, followed very closely by the original Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono Trigger. I haven't played IV all the way through (slacking, I know), but it seems like it is nearly in that tier. VII is not. It is a good game, and one I enjoyed greatly, but not even remotely the best of the series.
I honestly don't care which was the "best". I had a great time with VII back in the day, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it now.
I also like FFVI, Tactics, and ChronoTrigger more. For some reason the wobbly Cloud scenes bother me and I don't like them (when he's in the wheelchair).
I like IV the best, I also love V, and XII is fantastic too.
FF VII had some great characters, the strength of the game was the team, you felt their personalities, and you liked them. The plot wasn't amazing, but the characters for the most part were.
Then you have the sidequests. They really made the game, so much to do, so many ways to delay the story and just have fun with your team.
My point is that the new game won't improve the good things, and will likely have to alter them to keep them relevant with new graphics. I honestly think this game being remade will take away from its appeal more than give new players access to the great game it was.
Think of the saucer games, are they going to leave that all the same gameplay with better graphics? I can't imagine that.
The best parts of the game can't be improved, the cutscenes can, but at that point why not make a series instead of the game.
I think the remake will not displace the original, no matter how they dress it up.
The thing I want them to carry over the most is all that awesome chocobo inbreeding that is used to make the Golden Chocobo.
Less close.
Interracial inbreeding no less.
I don't think the remake will be better than the original, but I still think it's worth doing. As for the saucer games, I would actually really love it if they kept the bike game from the original and justified it as being retro. You could probably do the same with the other games. That might be neat.
