Those are very good distracting methods, I was going to respond but now all I can think of is garlic potatoes...

Now I'm hungry for potatoes.

I also love that we're self-policing with kittens and potatoes and puns.

I'm not entirely sure the puns are purely a form of self-policing, given that they have a tendency to come up in pretty much any thread, regardless of the nature of said thread ;). I mean, all it needs is for someone to mention trains or something…

We're conducting ourselves in a fur-brained manner if we are mashing derailed threads with puns.

Throwing a hissing fit over twice-baked trains of thought isn't cause for that drastic of measures.

Puns should be reserved for light and fluffy branch line topics, not just anytime someone gets an itch to pounce on a thread.

Sure, puns are usually just because it's something we tend to gravitate towards anyway. Like pun thread is default forum mode that we 'll eventually get to in any thread at some point...

But it's definitely been used to defuse threads before, and I think that's beautiful.

Y'know, that is a pretty fantastic thing.

Plus, I usually keep the skins on my potatoes when I mash them, as it does tend to keep them very flavourful. Not to say that they wouldn't be otherwise, because one must take a genuine care when seasoning potatoes, and the skins just make that a better job overall.

I always thought that pun derailments were a great compliment, that people were having fun and taking part. Which also explains why there are so many of them.

And now people are derailing a pun thread with serious discussion.

I don't even.

This thread protest thing is kind of passive-aggressive. I love it.
