Anyone watch these shows? I just started binge watching them with my girlfriend and I've been pretty surprised by how much I liked them since I was never a huge fan of Smallville. The Flash is really well done and the way they do comic villains in Arrow is (most of the time) really cool. Suicide Squad scenes in Arrow are some of my favorite and very interested to see what direction they take for HIVE.
Also. Ra's Al Ghul is Bad. Ass.
I binged on Arrow season 1 on Netflix, and was super impatient for season 2 to come out. I still haven't gotten through season 2 yet for some reason - it just isn't grabbing me as well as the first. I'm watching Flash on Hulu, and am a little regretful that I'm not current on Arrow because of occasional cross referencing...so clearly I need to watch more Arrow and catch up.
I don't have good knowledge of the original characters, so I'm just enjoying the stories as-is. I like the way the two shows are handling different levels of hero/villain power, though I'm really curious to see how the metahuman landscape changes in Arrow as time goes on.
Season 2 gets really good just before the midpoint to the end. There is some…surprises that make for really compelling stories.
Season 2 is just great in general. I’m hoping with how the mid season finale ended, it will pick up
The Arrow is really good and absolutely worth watching, but The Flash might be my favorite show on TV right now. It's a fantastic superhero show and DC should take note if they want to see how to do their movies
I think the serial nature of comics fits much better on the small screen than the big.
Like, I am straight giddy to find out which pieces of the Flashpoint Paradox they are incorporating into the show. They have done a very good job of making the Wells mystery very exciting even for those who know the source material fairly well.

I agree with you. The big screen is far more suited to large cross over events and major big bads. Though I have really really enjoyed the few Arrow/Flash crossover episodes and their fight scene together was very satisfying!
Agreed, but even from a character standpoint I think they could take a lesson from Arrow/Flash. Also, I have been really impressed how they have not skimped on the effects in Flash, some of the scenes have been movie worthy and absolutely jaw dropping (the subway scene with Captain Cold, the hitting the speed of sound to knock out Girder)
I also heard that Atom's costume in Arrow is going to be mind blowing big screen movie quality stuff, at least thats what the show runners are saying.
I am a little skeptical of how Atom is going to fit into Arrow honestly. It just doesn't seem like a great fit with the tone of the show, but anything that takes screen time away from Laurel as Black Canary will be fine with me.
Have you seen her suit though? It looks fantastic. Not to mention Katie Cassidy is much better suited to play the Canary than to play Laurel
And there’s probably going to be tons of “cool” roy backflips
I’ve seen the first two seasons of Arrow. When it’s on it is ON, but it is so suffocatingly melodramatic that I could barely trudge through the last two or three episodes of the second season. I’ve heard good things about Flash, but if it’s as dreary as Arrow I’ll flip. Barry Allen isn’t some brooding so-and-so all the time.
Its much more fun. Barry is a delight to watch.
We didn't watch Arrow when it first came on, but tried out Flash and loved it. Then we decided to give Arrow a try and ended up binge-watching all of Seasons 1 & 2, then buying episodes on Amazon to catch up to the current stuff.
This. I like Arrow and I think bleakness fits the theme they've established, but I LOVE Flash. I just end up grinning through half the episode each time because it's just really fun
It does bother me that the TV show's Oliver Queen isn't quite as "fun" as the one from the comics. But not enough to make me stop watching.
I'm waiting for The Tick to turn up in Starling City.

So who's "winning" between marvel and DC int he TV/Movie wars right now?
For Marvel we have Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and all the Avengers type movies and for DC we have Arrow, Flash and Gotham, are the two 'sets' comparable or do they offer significently different things?
Gotham is pretty crap, and Marvel has the amazing movie setup. Marvel wins by a longshot.
Arrow/Flash are the only good things DC has right now. I don't have much hope for the movies, as Zach Snyder is prominently involved
Yeah the newer superman movie was really a let down for me. Script was poor and ultimatly anticlimatic. He is writing the new batman v superman movie, and my fear is it will try and do way too much and spread itself too thin (look at how Sucker Punch turned out). Great movie visually and thematically, but just poorly executed from a story standpoint.
I think if they just swap the subtitles around those movies will be as serious as they need to be.
Seriously, who wouldn't want to see Superman: Enter The Justice and Batman: Dawn of Knight?
Snyder doesn't know how to let a plot develop without throwing in a ton of special effects to ruin it. Gothem is a disappointment despite great performances of the Penguin, Bullock, and Gordon. None of the other characters make sense and the story seems slapdash.
This is how Gotham should end:
Batman: I'm here to fight the villains the Gotham P.D. can't take down.
Gordon: We're actually doing really good.
Batman: What?
Gordon: Yeah, we've been fighting crazy, weird villains for years now. Crime went down 20 percent after I became Commissioner. If you want to become a cop, we could use you, but Gotham's doing alright. We had a crazy rough patch for a while where you might've been useful, but we got through it without you and are now one of the strongest police forces in the country.
Batman: Wow, a lot changed while I was gone. Well, good to know you guys are taking care of my city.
My problem with Gotham is that it's painfully grim, grimy, and glum (which makes sense for Gotham city but not fun television viewing for me). Also, the storyline makes very little sense if you try to work it into existing Batman mythology - which is fine for a TV show, but makes it less fun for me.
Flash & Arrow OTOH, are clearly written by fans and they fill the shows to the brim with nods to other characters and creators. But they mostly do it through background referenes so as to not make it annoying to non-fans (so says my wife, who's barely read any DC comics, but really enjoys the shows).
Flash and Arrow mess with the original stories as well, but they don't throw out the source material.
What happens when Batman shows up in Starling City demanding his villains back?
They point out to Batman that the villains taken were mostly the less known ones and that his rogues gallery is still pretty damn huge. Batman grins at the confirmation of his general superiority and goes back to Gotham, and then remembers he's still a kid in that show and vanishes in a puff of pedantic continuity keeping.
Quiet voice I'm also enjoying the new Constantine series.
Took ages to get through s1 of Arrow, but it's great now, and Flash is awesome.
I'm not sure you need the quiet voice. My understanding is that Constantine has been well reviewed...by the people who watched it.
But its future is questionable at this point, unless they got renewed and I haven't seen a notice.
