Would anyone be interested in playing a deduction-style social game, like The Resistance or One Night Ultimate Werewolf here? I am willing to act as a moderator for the purposes of secret voting and accountability. Let me know.

I've never heard of it - what is it?

They are both team games of hidden roles, with one team trying to subvert the other. The trick is that, usually, only one side knows who is on their team.

I'd be willing to play, but if this is a forum thing, there may be long stretches of time no one hears from me.

Not a fan of resistance, but Werewolf would be cool.

So is it an RPG, then? How exactly do you play?

I'm thinking that One Night Ultimate Werewolf will be a little easier to run as a first-time experiment.

Rabk, I know you said Resistance, but would you be willing to give that a try?

The idea of the game is that everyone gets a secret role. All of the roles are either on the Werewolf team or the Villager team. During the Night Phase of the game, the roles perform their actions (e.g. Werewolves finding out their teammates, The Seer peeking at someone's role, etc.). After that is all done, the Day Phase begins. This is where all the players discuss one person they want to accuse of being a Werewolf and lynch. After a limited time of discussion, a vote is held. The opposing team of the player voted for wins! It's pretty simple. I'll be handling all the stuff done in secret through private messages, then I will be setting an amount of time for discussion. Sound fun?

Not really no.

A reasonable summary of the events of Resistance can be found here but the game is really played in the discussions on why people should or should not vote for a particular team or why they think X is a spy, it's more like a witch hunt with formal rules. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: One night werewolf has just finished a PbF game on BGG, you can read the thread here

I've played a version of this game called Mafia. I'm totally in.

Yup, Mafia is a similar game. The main difference is that we are playing the One Night version here. The Werewolves don't kill anyone overnight, and the game is over in one round.

Oh gods. If you think CE and Resistance are arguing to choose the winner, you'll hate ONUW. But you're welcome to join.

I actually don't mind regular Werewolf so much because it doesn't try to present itself to me as anything other than arguing to choose the winner (or the loser, more accurately). Haven't tried the One Night version.

Super. I've got you on the list.

I plan on starting the game around 2 Eastern time. I'll start a new thread explaining the rules, send you all private messages, and we'll be good to go.

Ah, so it sounds like "everyone plots about stuff and then picks whom to gang up on"...so even though it seems like I've missed my chance to sign up in between leaving for work this morning and logging on in the evening, it doesn't sound like the kind of thing I'd be interested in anyway.
