This might be something that's been previously answered, but...
How long ago was the world built? I get the impression that it existed well before the SotM game was bring written.
What was the initial motivation for creating the SotM world? Was there originally plans to create a comic universe to tell/publish stories in? Was it for a superhero RPG? Or was it world building for the sake of world building?

For fun. Its Adam and Christophers private comic book world. Just made for fun, and SotM was made to play in that world, for fun. Then Paul showed up with a business plan and said "You could do this for a living!" and they are.
At least, thats the impression ive gotten from listening to Christopher talk about it.

What I love about their world is that they show so much love to the every kind of comic book style, every character is either a loving homage to a popular character or a complete. The tongue-in-cheek humor, the shout-outs, and charm of the characters make the game so intriguing.
To me the universe is more of a love letter to 75ish years of work done by 1000s of creators. I especially love that how much time was planned out since the original release those years ago! I love how gigantic this thing getting, it's as though they are bringing the power the wrath of the cosmos upon us! I am always caught of guard how much is planned, from card art being in used in the original edition only being shown in Vengeance! I am alays surprised, and just love everything they plan out.
TL;DR: Essentially, Greater Than Games, you guys are totally kickass!

I believe the world was created for SotM, but at that point SotM was just a fun thing for them to do, making the game they wanted to play. The whole thing took them two days, I think?
