I kept looking at the back of the hero cards and thinking that something seemed off. And then it just hit me. It doesn't say "Sentinels of the Multiverse" on it. All other expansions do.
Also just noticed that Infernal Relics doesn't have the expansion name on the hero cards, but Rook City and Shattered Timelines do.
I wonder if these were conscious design choices.
Also, isn't this the first time that the villains and the heroes have the same backs in an expansion? All previous times, the villains each had their own custom backs.

No, they have different backs. The V5 however has the same back as eachother.

Yeah, that also threw me off a little, especially since the back is so close in design to the heroes. I guess since the villains play as one they get the same back… though I think five different backs would have been better. I always like the especialized and unique look each villain had.
Well the V5 is still "one" villain you know? Having uniform backs reinforces that notion.
Soooo... can you tell which villain card belongs to which villain deck at a glance? (I know you can read them to see when they trigger)
Yeah, I get that and that's why this isn't even really a gripe but just an observation. The card backs just seem rather plain compared to all the previous versions.
But of course, we all know it's the front of the card that matters. And Vengeance has been pretty awesome so far (only got two games in this weekend)
Yeah. The villain card backs have the villain name on them (in unique fonts for each villain). It's just the background art that the same.
So if the cards have the same exact back, do they have the individual villain names on them and just the same design? Or are the vengeance villains counted as one deck?

The villain and hero backs look the same to me, just with the names at the top instead of the bottom. And yes, not having "Sentinels of the Multiverse" on the back of the cards has been bothering me too.

They are all red. The similarities end there however. I agree with Ronway.

The Mobile Defense Platform deck looks huge in this picture, can I safely assume that this is just due to perspective, and that the environments in Vengeance are not made of oversized cards?
This is how Peter Jackson made hobbits look small in a bunch of shots. Forced Perspective is a tricky mistress
i am not a fan of the red backs. They arent bad per say, just don’t like the feel of them for my aesetic purposes. but its just my opinion, still love the set
Yeah, the red is a bit garish for my taste, but what the heck, at least it's different. I am however a bit disappointed that the villain decks look so similar to the hero decks, and don't have the kind of unique variation among them of previous villains (particularly in the core sets - Omnitron and Baron Blade are things of beauty, and Citizen Dawn is epically cool). The vague resemblance between the RC and IR decks is something of a nuisance to me, but what really gets my goat is the way Scholar and Unity look like they come from the core set. Vengeance having 10 of its 12 decks be distinguished only by a name logo is somewhat less than optimal.
Oh well, it's a mega-expansion with five heroes, and what can be classified either as one villain with a lot of permutations or 16 villains with a lot of similarities. I can't complain too much about mere aesthetics.
