So what's your favorite card?

Sometimes, everything about a card just fits together perfectly.  The function, the art, and the flavor text unite to create something particularly memorable.  While I don't actually have a favorite hero, villain, or environment, there are several cards that simply stand above the rest for me.

Into the Stratosphere- It's useful, the art is great, and it very clearly simulates its effect mechanically.  Tempest has one hell of a pitching arm.

Cryo Bot- He's difficult to use effectively, but he has the potential to be amazingly useful, just like the real thing.  Also, you know, Unity.  Just... Unity.

Imbued Vitality- I love the implication that not only does Wraith bring her hairdryer-device with her wherever she goes, it's a HUGE NERD.

Lost Child- Spite is an awesome villain.  He'd be a pretty interesting episode of Law & Order SVU, that's for sure.

Vigilance- This card pretty well encapsulates what the Iron Legacy timeline is like.  I'm glad I don't live there.

So what are your favorites?

Siege-Breaker and Polyphoric Flare are mine. 

Visa, though I like MasterCard too. 

I'm rather a fan of Sucker Punch, because of Tachyon's tongue-out concentrating expression and because it's superfun to kill off the villain with it just to rub salt in the wounds.

Similarly I love Platform Bot for Blade's WTF? expression.

Blade has the same expression as Maia on Imbued Vitality.

Turret mode is a great card when it comes to theme and flavor. Still one of the only cards that made me actually laugh out loud when I saw it. BUDABUDABUDABUDA!!!!

I also love the various cards that show the progression of Ambuscade sneaking up on Haka while he is holding some balloons. Haka's final expression is priceless.

Grace Under Fire, for the flavor text ("When life gives you lemons, make a lemon cannon!") or a card in Setback's deck just for its excellent blending of flavor and gameplay mechanics.

Just about anything in Unity's deck for flavor quotes. And Blade's facial expression.

Take What You Need: Scholar contemplating his racket.

Get Out of the Way!: In the right situations it is the Scholar not hearing you over the sound of how awesome he is.

The Scholar in general is this right balance of whimsy and seriousness. The cards in his deck are better when compared to each other, I guess.

Aquatic Correspondence: Great picture, great text, useful. Always fun to see.

RPG Launcher: Always useful and shooting a t-rex while riding a pterodactyl? Unparalleled power.

I'm a huge fan of Devastating Aurora and how fun it is every time it gets played.

I am also very fond of those cards. They give a unique characterization of Haka that I haven't seen anywhere else.

there are sooooo many.   I can pretty much say any card for one reason or another.   But my absolute favorites are these 5

Three from the Past

1.  Into the Stratosphere,

2.  End of Days.

Why from the past you say?   Because of all the shenanigans you used to be able to pull with these cards before >G put the kaibosh on them.   Drug cards?  Huginn/Muninn, Operative?   .... Man...  good times.

3.  Savage Mana.   The original printing.

and two for the present;

4.  Elemental Wrath Absolute Zero

5.  Darkwatch Mr. Fixer.

Because these two cards took hero decks that I wasn't really interested in playing and instantly made me interested again.   

Freedom Tempest's character card - I don't even care to play as him that often, but that is some of the coolest art ever; him standing on the rocks, pissed off, waves crashing all around him, summoning an arm of pure lightning in place of his missing one.

Nightmist's Oblivion - because it looks about as wickedly strong as it is.

Legacy's Flying Smash - Legacy seems like a guy who is gifted with all this power, and yet doesn't wish to unleash his full potential; he'd rather be there for his team and do what's right, never letting things get too violent.  Flying Smash seems like a little taste of Legacy letting loose; flying straight through a giant floating structure and causing it to explode from sheer force.

Haka's Punish the Weak - I rarely use the card, but I love the art and Haka's pure, uncaring expression as he squishes heads like grapes.

Know When To Hold Fast - Planning. STRATEGISING.

I've never seen the original edition of the game; could someone link me to the art and pre-revision mechanics that I'm missing?  I know such a link exists, it was placed for me once before but I made the mistake of not swallowing it whole so it could be with me for always.

As for my favorite cards, here's an off-the-cuff top 5:

1.  Final Dive.  Perfect marriage of flavor and mechanics; one of the few things I really like about playing Fanatic.

2.  Brainstorm.  The flavor text could have come out of my own mouth.

3.  Pillars of Hercules.  Way to turn the game up to 11!  Time Flies is a close second.

4.  Young Legacy.  Turns my single least-favorite hero deck on its head and makes it cool again.  Plus she's cute.

5.  Power of the Ennead.  This is me cheating and naming an entire Villain deck, rather than try to decide which card in that or some other Villain deck is my favorite Villain card.  The Ennead are just about the coolest anything ever IMO.  Atum is my favorite, because of those little fire-beetle things of his, but you have to have the entire deck to really see how he and his followers work together.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with Into the Stratosphere being perfectly flavored though.  If you pick up Citizen Spring and throw her that far away, she's NOT going to come back at full health the next turn; it's even sillier with a Lost Child.  And how exactly do you pick up and throw Superhuman Redirection, Luminous Leadership, or an Apocalypse?

What cards are these?  Are they in the original edition or have I just not noticed them?  I remember PCD and Haka of Shielding showing Amby surprising Haka in mid-sandwich, but I don't remember balloons, and anyway two cards is hardly a "progression".

Haka of Shielding has a great image on it.

Slip Through Time from Omni-X's deck is always fun.

Hoarfire has both good art and makes me feel great when playing a well-set up Absolute Zero. Or a not-fully set up Zero. Still fun.

Time Flies from the Realm of Discord is currently my favourite Environment card.

The card where Haka is pulverizing Hippo-Guy (first-printing Savage Mana?)

The Tachyon divider card where she's chowing down (did that appear anywhere else?) It's on her bio page, but you have to click the banner to get the full effect.

There are a couple of cards in Vengeance, both in the Sentinels deck, that are awesome for both flavor and effect.

I love Inconcievable Obstruction from Kismet's deck, it's both hilarious and annoying

Pretty much anything from the Scholar's deck

My favorite, although there was not graphics at the time, is the original T.Rex from Primalis.  He used to be able to hit himself.  The first time we had one played a guy in my group basically explained the senario (since the T.Rex was going to hit himself) as such:

A T.Rex moves quietly through the jungle.  It looks around and sees something moving in the bushes.  Lunge. Chomp! *Yelp!!! That's my tail!!! *Wimper

Mine? Profane Zealot. I don't know why, I just think the villain card looks damn good :P

Ablative Coating, Temporal Shielding, and Elemental Exochassis - because I created them with a kickstarter reward 

Rocket Punch - because it takes me back to my childhood, getting up early to watch Tranzor Z, and because I always say it like Captain Falcon from Smash Brothers every time I use it

Arcane Cadence - just due to sheer usefulness

I will re-visit this thread once Vengeance comes out.  There's a few in there.

For mechanics, Twist the Ether, hands down the most shenanigan inducing card in the game.

Overall:  Consider the Price of Victory, and Targetting Innocents.  When I play the game I write the comic in my head of how it is happening.  Those two cards really changed just how serious I viewed those matches.  (Consider the Price is what prompted me to play Fanatic in reckless attack mode, so it holds a special place in my heart for helping me find my favorite hero)

Wow, that card would be broken.  Since it says "Deal 1 Target 2 damage for each card" instead of "Deal 1 Target X damage where X = the amount of cards times 2" that means damage buffs would affect each card underneath Savage Mana.

If only…

yes,  that's true,  although enemy armor affected the card twice as much as well.

I think Lightspeed Barrage used to have the same issue.

The cards in question are Haka of Shielding and one of the Trap cards, I don't remember which one. Ambuscade's card shows him planting a bomb on Haka at a zoo, and Haka's shows the effect of the bomb having very little effect.

Edit: The Haka of Shielding card's art was changed in EE, but it's the EE version that's being discussed.

Ambuscade's corresponding card is his Personal Cloaking Device

For some reason I thought there were at least 3 cards that showed it, but it was probably only the two previously mentioned. Either way, it still makes me laugh.

It is for that reason that I call the Haka of Shielding the Haka of Sandwich.

Also, I really like the Tumbleweed; my friends and I have deemed it the MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER IN SENTINELS, and will announce it as such whenever it comes up.

I have got to go with cmschex's choice of Inconceivable Obstruction, not only is it (to me) an excellent marriage of art, flavour text and mechanics but it also encompasses the comic book absurdity that Sentinels can affectionately mock while still showing its appreciation for the genre and simultaneously integrating it into the game on its own merits.

Also, it is inconceivable that you would choose something else.

Playing a game the other day with Time Cataclysm the Tumbleweed was the play immediately after End of Days obliterated a bunch of cards and made Iron Legacy very sad.  So it even has a very good sense of timing!

The tumbleweed has primary target status in our group, it has never lasted a round, and usually the first player will kill it, often going overboard in doing so.  It has never been retributioned, but it has drawn Haka of Battle and Lightspeed Barrage.

For some reason, imagining Haka punching a Tumbleweed is a lot cooler than Ra or someone else starting it on fire.

We always do our best to keep it alive as much as possible. It is the MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER IN SENTINELS, after all.

I don't know who that is. I wonder if they're making the same reference as us… link?

The Fancy Crew I think is the name Evandan gave to his own gaming group.

If that was meant as a joke, you really need to work on your delivery there buddy.  At the very least put a smiley or something in there, though even that would still sort of make it seem like you were just insulting him for some reason.

I'm not sure if I've replied to this yet, but I have to give credit to MENTAL DIVERGENCE. This is the card I always audibly squee over every time I draw it. I'm basically bouncing like a baby boy on Santa's knee whenever I play Visionary anyway, looking to the villian or environment decks and calling out "Not today, vile beast! There is no escape from my MIND!"

My favorite is electro-deployment unit.  It is great for so many little things!

overdrive- cause fixer is punching a dragon!

tumbleweed- we refuse to kill it. The only way it has been removed is because there was no way to prevent it. 

Geb- he is my favorite ennead! He is a ripped cobra that seems to be able to break walls. He is such a tank! Usually the last of the ennead to kill for my game group.

Perhaps putting a bit of a new spin on this topic; which card looks like the most "powerful" based on the art?

For me, probably Cedistic Dissonance; Argent Adept striking a giant satelite from the sky is just awesome.

Or the infamous "Card that shall not be named" in Citizen Dawn's deck.

Imbued Vitality gets honorable mention for being able to freak me out in the real world.  Hairdryers alive.

Whenever I want to refer to dinosaurs in a fantasy context, where I don't want to use clinical-sounding scientific terms, I call them "saurians".  Since this is a completely made-up term, it's free to include anything that seems to fit ("Salmon is totally a red meat!"), while excluding anything that doesn't ("Tomatoes are a fruit? Get real!").  Thusly, while a pterodactyl (or a plesiosaur) may not be a dinosaur, it is totally a saurian.

Going to say Remorseless Provocation from Apostate's deck. Art and Flavor text combo: Apostates grin as he says "Is this not what you meant by 'do unto others'" as he stabs someone through the chest. You can tell he knows exactly what Fanatic meant when she said it the first time, and he is twisting her words around. Basially that card sums up Apostate perfectly. 

As the person being stabbed, I resent this remark.
