Hey guys,

So now we know that there is an errata pack coming with corrections to cards affected by "Ruling 15" which we will be able to order from GTG for just the cost of shipping (plus $0.01).  I also know some people are concerned about incurring shipping costs for such a small item (I believe GTG uses FedEx for their shipping and goes by their prices). So I am offering this:

I will order a bunch of copies of the errata pack, let's say 20, and mail them out to any forumite in the US through USPS in a small enevelope for free. The cards will be packed between two cardboard pieces for protection... but I will not make any guarantees as to their safe arrival to you (though I will pack them as well as I can). I have access to packing materials and more stamps than I will ever use in my life so it'll be easy for me to send them out once I get them.

So just add your name to the list below by quoting the last post on this thread and putting your forum name on the next available empty space. The list will close for now at 20 and we can resolve any repeats or conflicts via PM.

For what it is worth, we have updated the shipping options on our web store so that USPS shipping should be available for orders light enough to be shipped First Class.

Not sure if that changes anyone's opinions or not :)

I need to get a deck and a couple of cards replaced but I figure it makes more sense (in terms of money and packaging and transporting something halfway across the world) if I could bundle the errata pack in with my replacements.

Especially people who are unemployed and have a gelato addiction to feed.

Plus I have to think about whether the promos are worth anything to me just to get them now, when there will eventually be a promo pack that I'll want anyway and that will have them all.  Granted I do want them sooner, but without the ability to gain my own (real, not printed off BGG) Young Legacy or Freedom Six, I question whether I should bother and risk breaking the symmetry two years from now.  Might be worth it to get two more villains and three alternate heroes, plus a fourth down the line, but I dunno.

Paying ten bucks shipping for the RC/IR reissue, Mr. Chomps, and the Enhanced Edition Errata Pack (or, the thrEE P, as I like to call it) wasn't too bad for me.  Plus, the promos are a nice bonus.

I plan on getting the promo pack when it happens, since I'm missing the rarer ones. Sure, my proxies are perfectly functional but of course my completionist tendencies mean I want official ones eventually...

But I'm totally happy to ultimately pay more for the privilege of getting the new ones now, especially as I want the errata pack anyway.

you guys do know the promo pack, when it is rleased wholesale, has been stated it will probably have different art, so the people who got in early will have something unique, yah?

at least that is my understanding. i will get the promo pack too, even with duplicate cards, because it likely will be different so the original promos are still promotional cards, with unique art

If they do change the art, I'll be cheesed, as I've never seen the backs of the original versions and thus will be missing out on something I want to see.  (I'm already cheesed that there's art in the original non-Enhanced edition of the game that I'm not privy to, especially given how the art often clues you in on the game story.)

now i, personally, would be cheesed if i went the extra mile for a promo (like ordering vengeance during shattered timelines over a year ago) and then down the line someone got the same one just because. plus, i always want to see new art by Adam

The problem is, some of us only heard about Sentinels after the appropriate kickstarters - I for example got the enhanced edition exactly one year ago and that was already too late for some of the promos.

Does it really make you enjoy your promos less if more people have them? That's pretty sad.

Well... the whole point is that they are limited, collectible. So their value is inherently lowered in instances of wide-spread ownership. So... yeah, a little.

Personally, I don't care. I've been in from the start, but it doesn't matter to me if I have these or not, what their value is (they're just cardboard), etc. I can play with printed versions for all I care. Having said that, I definitely respect and understand the views of folks who put significant value to the promos. (I dealt with Magic cards long enough to get that!)

I think everyone has a different point of view on this kind of thing, though. None are right or wrong - they're just our opinions.

SI
Silverleaf
2013-12-08 19:17 UTC

Realistically, everything's limited and collectible. There will never be an infinite number of promo cards.

I guess I just don't understand the "I want these special things I own to be exclusive to me and the few others that were lucky enough to discover said things early on" mentality. I only care what the value of something is if I want to buy or sell it. And I'd genuinely prefer for as many other people as possible to enjoy the cool stuff too!

Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Kickstarter/early adoptor/otherwise limited in some way rewards if they provide a changed play experience. Extra art, fun minis, upgraded components, merchandise, sure. But a new way to play? New characters? Seems unfair to me - unfair to people who heard about the game too late, or can't justify international shipping (since most Kickstarter projects ship from the US).

/rant

well that would be why, silver, they give those promo rules out to be print and play on bgg and spiff and such - so everyone can still have the play experience with them. as rabbit said, they are just cardboard. but just like that playtester by my name is a little badge of honor, so too is having the original promos be unique.

i dont have redeemer fanatic, or beareded ra, or young legacy, or rc wraith. i only have from the f6 onward, but i do like little badges of pride that are something unique and interesting. if i had the original first edition box, id treat it the same way.

its not to say ‘nyah nyah im better than you’ but just to be able to have something limited, something that is a little bit unique, even if it just is a cardboard version of what anyone can print offline. it makes me feel just a tiny bit unique to have ‘been here so long’ even though im not :stuck_out_tongue:

edit and as you said, early adopter rewards like /art/ is fine. i just want my early adopter promo /art/ to be unique when the promo pack comes out, not for it to be different powers. just unique art, which is my understanding a probable situation

added: silver, i think you think i dont want someone to have the same promo i have. thats not what i mean. i couldnt care less how many people have team leader tachyon. what i do care is that my reward for being here early and supporting from the start be unique art for my TLT - that the promo packs released at the end of the series are new /art/ not a different power (which in turn means more art to fuel my adam addiction :p)

Well, yeah, it's the physical CARD and the idea behind it; a recognition that we've been in it from the beginning (my name is in all the rulebooks from ST on, but I backed the IR kickstarter too.), so we have the promos as a thanks. Anyone can use the powers and see the sweet art associated with them, but having the card itself? It's an HONOR, and it's just less meaningful if literally anyone can buy them from the store.

Plus this game is turning me into a collector, so it helps fuel that as well.

Sure. I'd gone into general promo rant rather than >G rant, to be honest.

but I still don't agree that someone who's lucky enough to find a game early in any way "deserves" to insist that less lucky people shouldn't have the cool stuff. Why should being early mean you get special privileges?

recognition. it also fuels peoples desire to have those unique things which in turn fuels sales. look at the best (ie most successful) free to play games. what does money buy you in league of legends? skins. unique, rare, and out of sale skins drive sales of new skins for the the time those will be unique whichakes more money.

so people who were early are given recognition to drive sales for later people who want it.

I know some folks who love alternate art stuff and would be willing to buy alternate art versions of stuff they already had without care for collectibility. Having a favorite art version of thier characters that they can slam down and play the game with is a very real draw.

Hell, I already picked through the different art characters from base and EE and almost entirely went with the new versions.

SI

But I'm talking about thing you can't buy later - things that are entirely unavailable to those late to the party. That doesn't drive sales, because there's no way for people to buy. I know there are completionist types who will refuse to buy a game that they learn about too late to get the Kickstarter exclusives.

I don't know anything about League of Legends, but I assume the skins are just aesthetic differences. If there was an exclusive character class or something that only a few people could have and the chance to "earn" it was only given to a select few based on some arbitrary criteria, I imagine there would be a lot of annoyed gamers out there.

Okay… I think weve moved away from just dealing with SotM and more into general ranting grins

The promos of course are always available to everyone and will be available eventually. And there are very few places ive seen do that what you said there, give exclusive game changing things to people that can't be gotten later. At least, not any place that wants to continue long. Im certain people do it, but the general trend has been of late that early adoption/money can't buy advantages, only things like skins, special artwork, unique songs… but nothing gameplaces wise.

I don't disagree that they offer them. I disagree that they stay exclusive. Like our Promo heroes, they are available for Print and Play, and will be in a promo pack later.

I haven't seen a kickstarter in a long while that had exclusives that were /game mechanicall changing/ that did not get offered in some other way later. Of course, I will admit I only do about 1 kickstarter every couple of months so… take that as you will :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you have any leftovers?  I thought I ordered two errata packs but I received only one...it's not a big deal at all, but if you happen to have them and won't need more than the cost of a stamp to send them out, it'd be serendipitous.  (I don't need the promos, I got two sets of those, but somehow only one errata pack...weird.)

I do. Just PM me your address and I'll send one set of errata to you.

I just received my package (Calif. is geographically as far from >G as you can be and still be in the continental United States), and it was missing the Errata pack too.  For whatever reason, those Errata packs must have had a hard time getting into the boxes.

Well I didn't have a box, just a padded envelope.  [/splithairs]

I'm assuming everyone on the list got theirs by now without issue?

Yep! Didn't expect to get a promo pack, or I wouldn't have split up my online purchase into 2 orders to get an extra one.

Also, my Mr. Chomps plushy came with an extra errata pack instead of a promo pack, so now I have an extra one of those, too...
