Forum Technical Issue

I've been suffering unexpected crashes for some time, probably due to my browser being more ancient and terrible than anything in that book of Nightmist's.  But today, I noticed this weird message at the top of the page after posting in the Cosmic Omnitron game thread:

"Oops, looks like this request tried to create an infinite loop. We do not allow such things here. We are a professional website!"

I know this is probably not enough information for a proper bug report, but it was all I could come up with offhand.

While it's true the forum shouldn't be misbehaving with old browsers like that, your personal solution is present in the body of your problem statement.  How does the forum work when you use a more modern browser?

I got the same message, and I have never had a problem before.

Using an old browser, or a newer one?

I just got that message too on the latest safari browser on my phone... but the page still loaded just fine. 

I'm currently using a fairly up-to-date one and getting that message pretty much every time I post.  (Though not this time.)  At least here I don't have to deal with the crashes.

Got the same message just now using latest Firefox. Page loaded fine though, just with an error message at the top.

Yeah same here.  I was just reporting it in case it was a symptom of a deeper problem.

Hmmm. Now I can't open the "Episode 12: Cosmic Omnitron" thread. I get an error message that says:

"Safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred"

Do you mean 13 or 12?

Joel fixed it. Promises it won't happen again.

I'm still getting that message on the Episode 13: Cosmic Omnitron thread. (Running Chromium on Linux.) I have no trouble reading the thread, though.

I still can't read it...

Apologies. What Joel fixed was the style problem with the GSF page, not whatever you all have been dealing with. I'll try to point him to this thread.

Thanks, Andy. Yes, this is something I can look into. Fortunately the website is smart enough to direct you to the right page while logging and reporting the problem. It shouldn't be adversely affecting your experience on the site.

UPDATE: The redirect loop is gone.

Just to be clear, are you saying that you are getting an error about too many redirects?

Judging from the links in that, er, "person's" posts and the fact that said individual posted randomly in about three other threads (plus all those posts have now gone), it would seem they were just a spambot who's since been nuked by someone :).

Indeed, though I admittedly did not catch that they were a bot until tipped off (thankfully) via PM.

I keep getting this error whenever I try to go to the forums or the store, except in a few cases where I can find a link to a specific thread like this one. I would have made a new thread if I could but just get this error. I also got the same error on my phone and tried both IE and Firefox. Though depending how many people may be affected, there may not be anyone able to read this right now.

I was getting this too, and wondering if the "insufficient memory to write file" thing meant that my harddrive was full...

Yeah, it was strangely inconsistent. For most of last night, I couldn't get to the forums at all (tried a wide variety of devices) while others weren't having issues.

But at least it's fixed! 

I believe you had to use your Blade Battallion access codes to get in.

I am guessing that as Ra, Rabit played Summon Staff and searched for a cajunjoel.

I'm resurrecting this old thread, because I'm unable to create a new thread: I get a message that "You must be a human, not a robot, to post on this site". Is anyone else getting this message?

EDIT: Looking at it, it was over a day ago so the answer is probably yes.

DOUBLE EDIT: It also looks like when I am able to post again I will be able to post in the Galactic Strike Force Rulings forum, which is for the official rulings and should not be open to the likes of me.

Something's wrong with the "1000 Blank Cards" thread.  When I click into it, Safari tells me there are too many redirects and it can't display the page.  Others are still making new posts in that thread, so I assume others aren't having the same problem.

I've been getting a lot of "infinite loop" messages on the 1KBWC thread as well.  Usually they just pop up at the top and don't interfere with the page loading, but there's probably a connection to Spiff's problem.

I've seen that a couple of times recently, but I forget which thread I was in at the time. The thread looked fine. 

Maybe it's browser specific? Who is using which browser?

I see no trouble with Chrome. IE11 gives me 'page can not be found'.

The problem I reported was on Safari, but it's no longer happening this morning, so I guess, problem solved.

Just a quick update:

This thread covers two topics: The "inifinite loop" and the "hey! you're robot!" 

Infinte Loop: This can happen when the title of a forum topic is edited too many times and in the right way. Long story short, if the topic title is A, and you rename it to B, (and C, D, or E) and then back to A, it can create this infinite loop thing. Fortunately the website should catch it, but apparently IE doesn't play too nicely. Andy contacted me this time, but if any of you ever see that message, just drop me a PM and I'll fix it. it's fast. 

Hey! You're a robot!: We often make changes to the site to make it more usable... and stuff. And we're trying out a new captcha system and I'd misconfigured it. Again, I heard pretty quickly and was able to fix it as soon as I heard about it. Definitely an odd error, though. It shouldn't have happened. (whatever "shouldn't" means.)

In any case, for egregious things that are preventing you from posting, I'll usually hear about them sooner or later, but I don't spend a lot of times on the forums (If you do see me in the forums list, then it merely means I am logged into the site, but not actively reading them.)
