GenCon 2013 Cosplay

So I thought I'd share the photos taken with my camera from GenCon 2013. I had a blast meeting everyone and taking some group and posed shots with everyone. All of my photos are free to use, just don't sell 'em! (CC-BY-NC)

I’ve been trying to find the image of me photobombing you and Blade, but didn’t know who’s camera that was.

Seriously, though, thanks for sharing these. There are some great shots in there. I really appreciate it, as my camera went on vacation for the Con so I didn't get any photos of us that day. (I thought it had been lost, but it turned up as we were tearing down the booth!)

Unfortunately, I can't see the album on Picasa Web, but I'm not going to complain.

It was great to meet you, and your costume was great! (Actually, all of the costumes were great - I was really kinda amazed at cool you all looked!)

I love the pics of Wraith fighting against Spite. Very thematical.

However, there are a few I do not recognise. Who is the villain other than Blade and Spite?

I was confused by that as well:  who was the woman in the black sports bra and cargo pants?  The Operative, maybe?  

The Nightmists were particularly good, particularly the Tome of Elder Magic!  And I couldn't get over the fem-Scholar in the midst of it all!

Gender-swapped Apostate.

Hmm…I understand the black top due to difference in gender. But then…why brown trousers? Apostate wears black! Now wings or scar? I wouldn't call that cosplay, but to each his own I guess. 

I don't know about Gen-Con, but I will probably be going to Naka-Con next year as The Scholar. So, dibs, I guess.

Ah, okay!  I might have got it a bit faster if she had one of his relics, maybe.  Or, perhaps, the aforementioned wings or scar.

I think she has tiny wings on her back.

And she did have  the scar - it's hard to see in most of these pics.

Ah, cosplay. Yet another of the things I don't get, like posting pictures of cats with their faces through pieces of bread or throwing your game pieces back into the box willy-nilly and all mixed up, or living in London on purpose. ;) I admire the effort and ingenuity that goes into stuff like this (some awesome costumes there) but I just can't quite understand why. :)

Yeah, as Rabit said, she actually did have wings and a scar. Just hard to see in the picture, apparently.

Looking again, I can see the wings in one of the pics.  For whatever reason, they seem to just fade into the background in most of the images.  

I hope she keeps going with that costume:  a Gauntlet of Perdition and Condemnation could make for really awesome props that would hit home the feel of the character, and she has a solid base.  It was just hard to discern given just a few images and the lack of the relics.

I think it's a bit of fantasy fulfillment. Part of the reason we read comic books and watch movies is to escape our everyday lives and immerse ourselves in a world that is different from the one we live in. Cosplaying is just another process of immersion. You can feel a little bit like the person you're imitating and just be awesome for a little while.

I cosplay because I find the idea of taking something that is not real, and making it so. It's about the creation and dressing up as a character that you love.

I'm so glad we had so many people turn up in costume for the photo shoot. I think my favorite was the Apostate costume--it was so adorable!

As soon as I set up a flickr account, I can put up all the pictures I took there, in case we missed any angles.

Personally, I don't cosplay. I really suck at playing up the character.  Acting and improv are NOT things I do well…

I just wanted to help advertise SotM, so I picked a costume I thought I might be able to pull off. Being hairless, it was going to be Ra, AZ (which, as I tend to be pretty picky, was going to be hard to pull off), Bunker (even harder than AZ), or a male version of visionary (from an alternate timeline, of course  ).

So Ra it was! (I actually have cards to give people with info on the character and the game if they ask who I am dressed as.)

I do want to eventually do an AZ costume (because I love AZ), but it's going to take more time and money than I currently have available. 

Presumably Omni-10 is another option for you...especially if you're able to launch your own arm at people ;).

Personally, I am waiting to see a Akash'Bhuta cosplay, a really good Akash'Bhuta cosplay at that. Even more props if they manage her Avatar of Destruction state.

Edit: Dang, missed an opportunity to say something along the lines of how hot someone would be if they did the Avatar of Destruction of Akash'Bhuta. Curses!

The way my body's falling apart, that might be an option…

Rabit, you kind of look similar to the imprisoned rogue in the block. You could probably pull that guy off without too much difficulty.

I seriously thought about it, but it's not a very recognizable character in the multiverse. 

That's my story.

Doesn't mean I won't show up in that costume some day.

What you should do is get a bunch of Imprisoned Rogue cards and then sign them as you give them away in costume.

And then steal them back.

Finally got around to seeing these. Good times, good times.

I learned the hard way that fleese in August isn't a good idea. (I was the unhooded Spite) The rubber mask was also a bit sweaty. I took the mask off a few times before photos were taken

Yeah. You were literally dripping sweat out from the mask at one point. I felt sorry for you.

Good "realistic" Spite, though.

Thank you. The first time I took the mask off, there was a small pool of sweat under the chin. I didn't mind wearing it from my hotel to the dealer hall though because I was making people on the elevators feel uneasy as well as a few people blocking an entranceway to the hall. And I didn't say anything… just stared at them.
