I reiterate, a time traveling pirate cannot not be awesome.

Yeah, they're totally not awesome.  Oh, wait, I see what you meant.  Nevermind ;)

Was this the villain contest winner? If so, it has every right to be on concept alone. Can't wait to see what's next.

This is not the contest winner.

Wonder why I thought that. Still, an awesome concept sure to pry at least $30 from my own pocket and those of many others.

I hope the time element has some cool deck and trash altering tricks.

"La Capitan" still sounds a little weird to me but I look forward to the deck.

Also had time to read her at work (just looked at the pic at work) and her name is Monty Python levels of making fun of long Spanish names.

collecting names for herself and a crew from her past, present, and future, all with the same great thirst for adventure and vast greed for riches from everywhere... and everywhen!

If we end up with a time-travelling pirate who hangs out with a crew comprised of ninjas, knights, and cowboys, we may just have a nerd perfect storm here.

Since this isn't really spoilers, I will say that I love that she doesn't have a deck of generic crewmates; they're all individual, unique characters, and I can't wait to see what they look like.

I bet most/all of her names are references to already-existing things/stories/characters...but other than Inigo Montoya, I'm not too familiar with any famous Spanishy-sounding things that I can remember so it's all gone sailing over my head ;).

I love decks like that, think Citizen Dawn or the Tomb of Anubis.

As for names let me think…

Mafalda makes me think of one of the best comic characters ever… think Calvin and Hobbes but more blatantly political.

Yeah, I was trying to get offended at the not-so-subtle mocking of the long Spanish names, but I was too busy laughing

La Capitan also sounded weird to me, but I think I have said it enough times in my head that it's starting to sound ok.

I was also thinking of what the names could be in reference to, but came up with nothing besides Mafalda… most of the others are rather obscure period names. I was kind of hoping to see a Carmen and a Sandiego mixed in there since she kind of reminds me of the character.

Well, both Chris and Paul are big history buffs. So yea the obscure period names are part of the story. I'm still puzzeling some of them out. Though I'm pretty sure that 'de Falcon' is an omage to Calontir, a Kingdom within a Historical Reenactment Group, SCA. Add in the bit that Calontir is landlock but still has a 'navy' and a real (but not period just built period style) Viking longship and the reference is even better.

I have a bunch of friends that know Christopher through the SCA and Calontir.  But they don't know him as Christopher.  Anyway, I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of references to that world not just in her name, but in the whole game world.

flamethrower49,

That's where I meet Skjoldulf and Aldred. Do you play?

I do not.  I'm good friends with... (looks for names on Facebook)... Alessandra (an archer!) and Ermenrich (a herald!).  I think that's who they are.  Anyway.  It seems like a fascinating place.

Alessandra sound familiar but not Ermenrich. But then again there are several thousand in Calontir.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I absolutely love La Capitan, and I have the feeling that my group will be logging a lot of time beating her down.
