Is "Megalopolis" one of those fairly common parody names, and I had just never heard it before? The first time I even encountered it was in SotM, but I could see how it COULD be a standard issue parody-type name.
It's not so much a name as it is a description of a large city. Not that unlike "Metropolis".
Yeah, it's fairly common for fictional cities to sometimes have generic names like "Townsville" or "Cityburg".
I always think of the pretty brilliant Anime miniseries Doomed Megalopolis. I think it means a mega city formed of smaller cities... Mexico city comes to mind and not just because I'm Mexican... that city is a STATE.
Megalopolis is a term for any city of sufficient size and population. The next 'step up' is an Ecumenopolis.
