Made similar post on BGG when the forum was down but figured I’d post here too.

I noticed that on the back of the new Wraith card she has 4 figures in the shadows, the first one is Spite, the others look similar to Two-face, Penguin, and possibly Catwoman. Will we ever see a Hero have more than one Nemesis? If the expansions continue in the trend Rook City is going then the Villians will outnumber the Heroes on the 4th expansion. Can easily give a Hero more than one Villian as their Nemesis and not change the game mechanics. This as well would give us more options to choose from when we want use a Hero to fight their Nemesis.

Oh my. I guess I will have to start listening to it again if I am missing thirty minutes of it. Guess I know what I am doing tomorrow morning when I get off work.

Akash Bhuta does sound really awesome. My jaw dropped when he said her HP was two hundred, but after finding out how it worked it made me feel a lot better. It was almost as scary as looking at Spite’ playtest card and seeing he had a max HP of two hundred and fifty. Lucky his starting HP was only sixty.

There is so much we can talk about! Seriously, great podcast. I love their discussion on the heroes personality. They did make a mention of Tachyon, and she’s definitely my favorite. I just find her hilarious.

I was going through the cards last night to read the quotes and flavor text, and I noticed something… on Visionary’s “Suggestion” Card, there’s someone who looks to be wearing something similar to Haka’s clothing… could be his nemesis, since the card’s effects only apply to villains.

Rook City revealed two core hero nemesis (Wraith got Spite, Tachyon got the Matriarch), matched up Fixer and The Chairman, gave a new hero a core game nemesis (Expatriatte to Dawn), and added one new villain in need of a hero (Plague Rat).

Infernal Relics will be revealing 2 core hero nemesis (Ra and Fanatic’s) and matching up its 2 new heroes with a new villain nemesis.

We have Omnitron and Plague Rat as Villains with no hero yet so what they did with Expatriatte will surely need to happen at least twice (more if they pull another Plague Rat type villain intro in an expansion).

I can see >G continuing the trend of matching at least one new hero with a villain nemesis within the expansion. That lets them really emphasize the theme they go for in each expansion. And I love that they can tie in core game characters to each game theme. They’ve done this two at a time thus far. To me, Tachyon’s connection to Rook City seems to be the most vague connection, but I’ll take it. With the remaining four heroes i have a hard time putting them in groups of 2 thematically to tie into another expansion together. Visionary is so different in story from Haka, Bunker and Absolute Zero I have a hard time seeing her and another of those both be tied into a similarly themed expansion. Unless we see a Haka, Bunker or AZ from the future.

All these back story connections and character interweaving is one of my favorite things about this game. The greater world they have created. I look forward to seeing how this continues to be unvieled moving forward. I just really really hope that when >G feels the game has reached its capacity for expansions and such that there won’t be any loose ends in the nemesis department. I know comics never really have an end to their story, but i hope no characters are left out to dry.

Okay, from discussion in another thread I guess I can see how Visionary and Haka could connect. The name Time and Space has bounced around as a possible future expansion and I guess I always read that as the future. But Time goes both ways and Haka is very very old. So perhaps Visionary and Haka in time and space along with a hero for plaguerat and then something like this…

could work well. Only you’d have new heroes that still need nemesis…hmmm…mabye not.

I actually hadn’t thought about the whole Bunker and AZ connection with their crazy technology. But I had actually said a while ago that I thought Bunker’s nemesis might be someone in one of the old Bunker suits, or something of that nature. And it’d make sense for Omnitron’s nemesis to be in that expansion too, seeing as he’s a spawn of a corporation. Does anyone think its nemesis will be from the government, or could Aldred Ind. create some sort of robot suit for someone to put down their creation?

Okay, if my math is correct, and there will in fact be four expansions total, all with the same number of heroes and villains, then won’t we end up with 18 heroes and 20 villains? I mean the obvious answer would be “Some heroes will have more than one nemesis deck”, but what if that’s not the case? What if those two leftover villains are the “final bosses” of the Multiverse? I know I have no evidence to base that on, but sometimes I think about it, and it blows my mind. Honestly, I hope that’s the case and there will be two villains that are the definite end of the story. I can see the epic battle now: lives will be lost, sacrifices will be made, but who wins?

We will, of course.

It was said that SotM would only have a total of four expansions? If that’s true then it would be a real shame, because there is a multi-tude of things that can still be done. They even have plans to make Mega-Expansions, which may be similar to the core game where it introduces a butt load of new heroes. Maybe after four expansions they may put a pause on things for a bit and work on other things though, I can see that happening.

With Visionary having an evil, other dimensional version of herself living in her skull, the fact that heroes apparently can have multiple nemeses, the dark haired Tachyon clone, and the constant insistance on the fact that “of the Multiverse” is more than just a cool title… What if a future, potentially larger expansion has “Earth 3”/evil versions of the Freedom Five? :stuck_out_tongue:

That has been brught up before due to one of Visionary’s cards (can’t remember which one and don’t want to bother looking at it) because of the Legacy dress in red. The Flavor text from it says that it is from a Freedom Six comic. The creators have also stated that on the back of Young Legacy’s promo card where it features Young Legacy killed and Legacy holder her is where it splits off into the seperate direction. So the mystery is if the Legacy is still part of the Freedom Five and the gain an additional member or if Legacy drops off because he now has a different way of doing things and the Freedom Five replace him and even add an additional member. That’s why the expansion with Red Legacy is the one I am most excited for to find out what is actually going on in that multiverse.

Edit: Found the link to that discussion http://greaterthangames.info/forum/index.php/topic,334.0.html

The card is Prophetic Vision and the flavour text on it is from “America’s Finest Legacy #201”.
The only mention of the Freedom Six is in the Visionary’s bio. And even then the Visionary is not part of it.

Personally, I don’t think “Red Legacy” is a villian, I just think it’s an angrier, harsher hero, quite possibly still part of the Freedom Six (unless it has been stated otherwise elsewhere).

RO
Ronway

I don’t think it has been stated either way yet. Maybe he will be playable as both Hero and Villian? Well playable as Hero anyway and chose to go against as a Villian.

I personally would him to be on the “villian” side (whether he be a villian or not) just because his playsyle will probably will be fairly similar to Young Legacy, just even more cards switched out. Such as Lead From the Front would probably be dropped out for something else. Motivation Charge (I think I got it right) would probably be changed to something that lacks healing and deals more damage. And if too many things get changed to increase damage and such he will be a melee based Ra.

Now he’ll be heck of fun on the Villian side, Legacy versus Legacy has a nice ring to it. Some of his cards transfered over will be scary. I can see Next Evolution just giving him immunity to several different damage types.

MA
Matchstickman
2012-04-23 16:08 UTC
#44

Agreed. We have 2 red Legacy’s running around, bizarro world Legacy on “THOKK!” and alternate timeline red Legacy (from when his daughter dies, probably an antihero) on Prophetic Vision… actually the Legacy on Prophetic Vision is more orange.

Back on topic, is there any reason we’ve not considered 1 villain with multiple nemeses? Would the ability to do 1 extra damage to 2 (or more) characters be unbalancing somehow (and vise versa)?
I can see a villain considering the Freedom Five as their nemeses rather than an individual hero.

EV
EvanDan55
2012-04-23 16:17 UTC

I’m starting to think if those Other Heroes show up (such as fake Legacy and the red-clad Tachyon), they may show up as a villain deck as a whole, with a central leader as the villain character card. All of the look-alike heroes would be similar to Chairman’s underbosses or Dawn’s citizens: a small group of powerful underlings. So maybe it would be a Freedom Six sort of thing, with the mysterious sixth member being the villain character card, and all of the clones being minions with high HP and attack.

Well, maybe they wouldn’t be the Freedom Six, but they’d still be a group of bad guys that look like the Freedom Five.

RO
Ronway
2012-04-23 16:19 UTC

That would actually be pretty cool. I guess if a Villian is a nemesis of the Freedom Five the nemesis symol on the Villian card would be split in fifths and each one would depict part of the coinciding Hero. The only issue with that is it may be hard to make out some of their symbols. I would say have multiple symbols on the card but that would be taking up a lot of space… Maybe mini symbols than?

Just for fun…lets say there is a Felenous Five…a team of five villains who collectively consider the Freedom Five as their team nemesis. None of these villains should be any of the actual freedom fives personal nemesis, but each should be taken form the background characters on the artwork of the game. Which background five villains would you put on this evil team? Hippo Man? Bizarro Legacy? Red suit speedster that Tachyon specifically denies as her personal nemesis? Who do you think? (If you can name the card for others to reference that would be great.)

BR

Yeah, I definitely think Hippo Man (Savage Mana) and Speedster (Fleet of Foot) would make the list. I could see maybe the demon from Sacrosanct Martyr as well. The “star-faced brigade” from Lead from the Front would be nice too. I could see that actually being a self-replicating guy like Multiple Man from marvel.

If I’m being serious about the team of Other Heroes that go against the Freedom Five, I’m imagining they are all reflections of the Freedom Five members, so I’m thinking it’d be a team with fake Legacy, red speedster, another person in a fire-using suit, a person in a gun-toting mech suit, and a gadget user who fights in the shadows. Oh, and since those first two have primarily red costumes, the other three have mainly red costumes. Y’know, for style.

I’ll put it to rest now that Fanatic is no man’s fangirl.

Well, of course I was joking. Fanatic isn’t like that. I think she’s mainly just one to focus on her goals. Sure, she’ll help others, but her mission comes first. I would never seriously call her a fangirl. But still, all I can take from her cards and the podcast is that they really hate each other. Like, she’s really out for blood in this fight.

Chris had been hinting heavily that anyone who had played as Fanatic before had probably seen the guy who is her nemesis, and yeah most of us have been guessing it’s him for a while, so there’s no doubt.

To be fair, there’s also a devil-looking character on a couple of her cards (Chastise, Divine Focus), and the undead-looking guy on Sacrosanct Martyr that could potentially be her nemesis. Most of us don’t have any way to know. The black-winged angel on Smite the Transgressor just seems like the most likely option.

EV
EvanDan55

He’s also on Zealous Offense, so really we’re going on the fact that he shows up twice, whereas no one else does. And since there’s multiple copies of those cards (obviously), we see him the most often, so he stands out more than the others. And I don’t know, it just seems like it’d make sense for Fanatic to have a “fallen-angel” type nemesis.

So, I made my post without looking through all of Fanatic’s deck. I had actually always assumed that the guy on Smite the Transgressor was a Citizen, maybe Citizen Assault or something. But now, looking closer because of all the fuss, the outline of black wings is quite unmistakable. So I had only seen the black angel on Zealous Offense. So then I think, hey, it could still be demon-dude. He’s on Chastise. I had thought, well, that looks kinda like the guy on Divine Focus. But no, that’s obviously Voss. (And the flavor text quotes Stranger in a Strange World, which is Tempest’s comic.)

So, yeah. I guess I wasn’t paying attention either.

Well, we now have confirmation that it’s the black-wing guy, and it looks like he has some sort of energy powers, based on the red and purple shinies near where I think his hands are. Also it looks like he’s on fire, but I’m guessing that’s just the backdrop. Hades?

So, with the reveal of the Ennead, and the 95% chance Fanatic’s nemesis is that black-winged guy, it looks like we’ve at least seen all of the new people in the expansion. Now we just have to wait and find out what their names are and where they come from, etc.

I personally wonder if an alternate villain could have a different nemesis then their original. It’s not uncommon for a villain to sometimes jump to another comic if they fit in better thematically, or just in a cross-over arc to have a plan to beat someone other then their major foil. It’s not normal, but it’s been known to happen. I do find it extremely unlikely that a alternate hero would change their icon.
