Demos in Indianapolis

None other than himself, Christopher, will be traveling to Indianapolis to do demos at a number of local stores.

Come join us! Say hi! Help spread the word! I’d like to make Christopher’s trip worthwhile, so the more we can spread the news around town and get people to come to the demos, the better.

Hmm… Going from Greenwood to Northeast Indy… Seems like quite a bit of a drive in one hour.

Oooooh man. I might actually be able to make this. If I go up to visit my girlfriend that weekend, she lives close enough that I could come… Better start getting some money for the trip!

I wish I could be at even one of these but seeing as I am like 7 1/2 hours away from Indy it’s impractical. Curse you rotten economy.

Under favorable conditions, it shouldn’t take longer than 30 minutes, though US31 can be quite a bit busy between Greenwood and I465. Oh, and watch out for the undercover cops driving DOT trucks.

Only reason I say anything, there are two demos right next to each other in Greenwood, and two more demos on Northeast Indy, yet the one day there are two demos on one day are two far away from each other. Seems a bit weird to me.

I’m greatly looking forward to them! Can’t make Friday, but I’ll definitely be at some of the other sessions - maybe all, depending on how the weekend plays out.

Just how it worked out in scheduling with the locations. :-\

I can’t make it. My college is having a 48 Hour Film Festival, and I can’t miss it. Sorry!

Yeah, had to work with the stores’ already existing schedules. I agree that the hour to get from Greenwood to Keystone is going to be interesting. The folks at Comic Carnival are actually hoping that we’ll arrive earlier, if at all possible, but I didn’t want to overpromise.

On the other hand, this does mean that someone on the south side or the north side has their choice of days to come out to a local store. Those of you on the east or west are, of course, equally screwed on all days. Sorry about that. If you’ve got a store in another part of town that you want us to consider, it’s not too late to talk to them, though there’s not a whole lot of time left in the schedule.

Wait, so how many people actually live in Indy? I do, and CBU is where I go to get my comics. Unfortunately I work during those times.

I know I tried to convince Gamerz in Greenwood to carry the game about a couple weeks ago, but I’m not sure he was any interested at all.

You work Fri night, Sat afternoon, Sat night, and Sun afternoon?

Yes. Yes, he is.

We should be able to have one vehicle leave early to get to Comic Carnival early. Some of us might even volunteer to stay behind and cover the tail end of the demos…

Woo! I am now the proud owner of official artwork of the Chairman drawn and signed by Christopher himself!

Christopher drew something for you? And then called it the “official art?” … I have seen things that Christopher has drawn and, well, no offense to him, but he’s no Adam.

It’s a wonderful piece of character artwork, though perhaps more wonderful for its character than for its artwork.

Well, we had a great time, with lots of fun and interesting games and many new folks introduced to SotM and many experienced folks getting to play some… Cards we won’t talk about.

Thank you for making the trip, Christopher, and thank you Andy for setting everything up.

Greatly looking forward to many more grand battles with new and amazing heroes against new and terrifying villains in the years to come!

I just spent all weekend playing Sentinels of the Multiverse and am still loving every game. After all the demos were done and Christopher was on the road back west, I found myself playing one more game – The Freedom five versus Citizen Dawn – and it was just as dramatic and engaging as ever. (We won, by the way, though with most of us in single digits)

Many thanks to Christopher for making the trip, to Russ and Jeff for helping out, and to the stores for hosting us. It was great to meet Evan in person. If there are others from the forums who were there that I’m failing to mention, my apologies.

Highlights included hearing lots of stories from Christopher about the creation of the game, getting to see how Christopher played some of the characters, beating Dawn on Advanced Mode, and last but CERTAINLY not least, getting a sneak peek at some of the characters and environments from Rook City.

Those of us who got to see them have been sworn to secrecy, but I CAN say that everything I saw was really, really cool. The new villain flip mechanics we saw are innovative and challenging. The new heroes are fun. I am a big, big fan of Mr. Fixer. I will never look at birds the same way again.

I also enjoyed talking to Christopher about the possibilities for tournaments in the future. I’m not sure it’s my place to share any details of those discussions, but I will say that I’m stoked at the prospects.

It was a great weekend. Part of what makes this game so much fun for me is the enjoyment I get from participating in the community around it. Here’s to lots of great expansions and other games from Greater Than Games in the future.

Dude, it was so much fun coming up there. But wait… I missed seeing sneak previews of expansion things? When was this? How did I not stay long enough?! Woe is me, but it was still nice coming up and seeing everyone, and I’d do it all over again, though hopefully I’d make it to all of them next time. All in all, great weekend, and oh…

So how was the turnout for the demos?

Biggest turnout was definately Saturday Game Preserve. Quite a few people showed up. Quite a few people there also purchased a copy of the game. I believe I also hosted three demos there (I may be way off, I’ve slept sense then, and apparently not enough the last time). No place had terrible turnout though.

I really wish I could have been there for that one at the Game Preserve, but I slept in far too late, and just didn’t have the gas to go to Greenwood and Indianapolis in the same day. I’m very sad I didn’t make it. Believe me, I would have. Also, I was feeling very sick that morning and had slept until 3:00 PM, so yeah… I’d have been very late. But still, I’m really sad I missed the Rook City things you all supposedly had… I was so close!

Comic Book U – One person who came specifically for the game and to learn about game designing. A couple of other guys took advantage of us being there to play a game.

Arsenal – About half a dozen people did demos. We also got a visit by one of the guys that does the Spiel podcast. There were probably fifty people in the store doing a whole variety of activities (two roleplaying groups, Magic tournament, video game room) so we also got a lot of other exposure.

Game Preserve Greenwood – As many as a dozen people played in demos.

Comic Carnival – Again, close to a dozen people played in demos, and over a relatively short timespan – just a couple of hours. We were running three games simultaneously.

Game Preserve Fashion Mall – A bit smaller crowd than the previous two. We were playing in the same room as a large roleplaying group, so it was cacophonous.

There was a core group of SuperFans (like me) who were at everything. Overall, I’d gauge that about two dozen people that had not played before either played or at least took a serious look at the game.
