I can’t remember what environment card said this, or which environment deck it was even from, but it stated something to the effect that it could be destroyed by discarding one ongoing card.

I’ve always taken discard to mean remove from hand, while removing anything from play is known as destroying. Does this mean that a player would have to take an ongoing card from his hand into the trash to destroy this environment card?

Yes it does!

Of course, a player could always play a card that says “destroy an environment” card; that’d also do it

Well, yeah, but that’s a bit too obvious…

Just to help clear things up, generally, the word “discard” means from hand, and the word “destroy” means from play.
