Sentinels Tactics MInifigs

Just got my Kickstarter, with the two packs of minifigs. They look great, but they're made of a material that is unfamiliar to me. (Admittedly, the last time I painted minis, I was painting with Testors enamels on RP lead figures or plastic Space Marines. Ye olde tabletop dino goes "Roar", I know, I know...)

I was just wondering if anyone from GTG or anyone else who has these can tell me what kinds of paints should be safe to use on these figures. (The thought of Legacy melting in my hands when I apply paint thinner after an inevitable screw-up is painful, to say the least.)

I started painting last night with just the standard acrylic paints used for Warhammer 40k/Warmachine minis.  I personally use the Citadel line of paints but I know people also like the P3 line.

Now I want to have LEGO minifigs of the Sentinels characters.

I was wondering what kind of glue to use? Or if I could just use the standard Krazy Glue... never have had minis before D: much less painted them haha

Do we know if these minis need a coat of primer before you start laying on the paint, or if they're good with just the paint?

I know nothing at all about painting minis, but my friend is going to try learning. I'm getting the painted ones eventually, so I'm donating my unpainted ones to him for practice. I'll let you know what he finds out.

From what experience I have, the materially feels like it will need a primer. You’ll probably be ok without one, but the amount of play they get will lead to chips if you don’t seal them. I would take a foot of one and test it out, that way if it’s a problem you can do a little artsy flock around the base to cover it up

I painted one of the Proletariats without primer last night as I only have black primer currently and it worked okay.  The first layer ran a little but other than that the paint seemed to stick fine.  I will likely pick up some white primer at some point as it will take me awhile to paint all of the miniatures and try with the primer.  The problem is that a lot of the details aren't very deep on the minis so I am worried about getting the paint too thick.

The Sentinels figures are made from the same material as the Reaper Bones, and I've painted the reaper bones (including heavy drybrushing and washes/stains) without having to prime them.

The trick is to wash the figures with soap and water very thoroughly beore you start. The oils from your skin transfer to the figures very well and will disrupt the paint. Let the figures dry over night and you should be fine for painting them without priming.

I have pictures of some Reaper Bones in the process of being painted on my blog, and I'll have some of the Freedom 5 and Omnitrom up later next week after I get more paint on them.

I'm bringing this back to see if anyone can provide thoughts on glue they've tried. Does Krazy/Super Glue work? Is acrylic cement (like Craftics #33) a good idea? Other options folks have used?

i used loctite super glue, the gel based one. worked well =P no one else answered that question when i or others posted in the forums either.

My standard glue for minis tends to be Zap-a-Gap CA+

Thanks, folks. I appreciate it! Zap-A-Gap was always my go-to, also, but mine has completely dried up. Guess I'll go out and pick up a new bottle.

Eh, you can just use it - the stuff isn't that expensive (but thanks for the offer).

In any case, I'm picking it up on the way home tonight and hopefully I'll be done with it by the time I see you tomorrow evening.

One thing that can help, store it in the refrigerator.
