Heroes, you have defeated all those who threaten our planet, from Massive Mechanical Monstrosities to Peerlessly Powerful Pirate Platoons, and even a Sadistic Sleeping Summoner.

But rumors of your success have spread, and now challengers come to test your strength, and now you must rise up again, to Fight for Freedom, to Vindicate Victims of Vengeful Villains, and to prove once again that no matter how convoluted convicts card-combining capabilities carry them, they will never have the Dynamic Deck Designing Dexterity that Defenders of Decency Do.

All players will need access to the vengeance Expansion, and will be expected to run a villain deck as well as a hero deck.

You may choose to design your villains deck or use one I design.

Villain Rules:

1.  V5 villain + one other villain deck.

2.  No (H) icons may be on cards used.

3.  Any Mini-Nemesis in your villains deck whose Nemesis Icon is in the game must be in your deck.

Villains:

Blade Squared:  Oaktree

Friction of the Flock:  BlueHairedMeerkat

Ermine, the Silent Hunter:  grysqrl

Plague Train:  Kharnel

Proletariat, Luck of the People:  Phantaskippy

if you have a preferred name for your villain, let me know and I'll change it

HEROES:

Oaktree:  Expat/Visionary/KNYFE/Unity

BHMK:  RA/AZ/Fixer/Wraith

grysqrl:  Naturalist/Fanatic/Setback/Nightmist

Kharnel:  Greatest Legacy/Chrono Ranger/Tempest/Sentinels

Phantaskippy:  Omni-X/Tachyon/Haka/Parse

Environment:  MDP

Okay, so I read through the first four of these and it seems like a crazy fun time. If the spot is still available, I'd like to give it a whirl:

Grandpa Legacy (main)
The Argent Adept
Tempest
The Sentinels

As for the villain, I was thinking Spite Train, but I need to work on that one a bit.

Ok, from what's left, I have randomized Setback, Fanatic, Nightmist, and Naturalist. I'll come up with something using those four. Not sure who the character card will be yet.

Nightmist and setback. . . if you don't worry about the spell numbers Mistbound, Mistform, Heedless Lash and Elder Ring have value, Setback though. . . that could be rough.

Mistbound would normally be nice, but I think it's going to be less effective against V5, since I can only pick one deck. I thought about Mistform and Elder Ring and opted against because there were other things that I wanted more. Astral Premonition is in, though.

Actually disregard that, I was thinking wrong.  IL is chock full of (H) cards, Plague rat is a far better option.

I would request that you leave out the infections, as there will be no built in way to get rid of them.

Yeah, I didn't include Infections. There are a couple cards that reference searching for infections and playing them, but I figured that part can either be disregarded or effectively just be shuffling the villain deck.

Since I saw how hard a V-5 game was to follow on the BGG forum I put together a "status block" to show HP for targets and also a list of effects to be taken account for. I will update it and paste it in again after Baron Blade and Expat act.  (And this might be the best way to keep track of the game state.)

ROUND 1 - V is for "Vast Onslaught!"

I figure we might want to delay the pounding momentarily in order to allow for some strategy discussion.  The Impulsion Beam obviously has to go, and then setting priority on other targets and what we have available resource-wise to do so.

Expat's initial hand is: Raptor Bot, Twist the Ether, Assault Rifle, and "For the Greater Good".

(And since this would be known information by Expat's turn Baron Blade's initial card play is "Mobile Defense Platform".)

We're missing some starting Ongoing cards. Constant Prattle, Genetically Fused Physique, and Engine of Destruction should be on the list.

Naturalist's starting hand: Brutal Censure, Final Dive, Primal Charge, Cause and Effect

If someone can get one of the devices down to 4 (might be tough with BB's advanced text), I can Final Dive it. Otherwise, I can kill one of the Ongoings. Who do you guys want to focus first?

He's got the ongoing cards listed under effects, looks like the status block is just for targets. I've got potential for a very productive turn if we can get the Impulsion Beam down, but I'd forgotten about the Advanced bit. We're going to need Ra to lay down some serious hurt for that to be feasible.

OOH! SORRY! Should have mentioned this earlier, but Friction doesn't start with Shock Dampeners, because they're not in her deck. So, you know, one less target to worry about (for now :P)

FRICTION

Start - nothing

Play - Jackdaws, Vultures, Rooks, Jackdaws, Unhealthy Speed - Friction deals each hero target 1 melee damage, none to herself thanks to her DR - Vultures, Vultures, Crows, Unhealthy Speed - Friction deals each hero target 1 melee damage - Rooks, Ravens, Rooks, Crows, Crows, Unhealthy Speed - Friction deals each hero target 1 melee damage - Ravens, Jackdaws, Synergy Surge - Friction deals each villain target 2 lightning damage [net 1 to her, none to BB or his devices, Prot's will redirect to a Clone, 3 to Fright Train], then plays the top card of each villain deck, in turn order. [When it gets to Friction, she will play the Ravens, which is the one card left in her deck, then all the birds she just killed will roll right out again.]

Seriously Meerkat.  Way to build the deck that makes a convoluted mess even worse.

Top card:  Share in the Struggle 2 Clones enter play.

Second card:  Inconceivable Obstruction.

*Note:  Inconceivable Obstruction is reworded from Kismet to Proletariat, which means Inconceivable will trigger whenver any Proletariat would be dealt damage.  Including Clone cards start of turn damage.

So for Friction's first Synergy Surge we have:

  • BB: Powered Remote Turret (nothing immediate; deals damage later)
  • Friction: A bunch of birds
  • Ermine: Calypso (nothing immediate; steals cards later)
  • Fright Train: Major Flay (nothing immediate; deals damage later)
  • Proletariat: Share in the Struggle --> 2 more Proletariats

For her second Synergy Surge:

  • BB: Hasten Doom deals hero targets 2 damage each and plays Mobile Defense Platform
  • Friction: Kills all of the birds and plays them all again
  • Ermine: Run and Gun (hits Ra for 2) --> Run and Gun (hits Legacy for 2) --> Long Con (everyone discards a card and Ermine heals 3)
  • Fright Train: Bestial Vitality (nothing immediate; DR and healing to Fright Train)
  • Proletariat: Inconceivable Obstruction (nothing immediate; annoying damage redirection later)

  • Baron Blade plays Powered Remote Turret
  • Friction plays a whole crapton of birds.
  • Ermine plays Calypso.
  • Fright Train plays Major Flay.
  • Proletariat plays Share In The Struggle, bringing out two more Proletariats.

End - A whole crapton of birds, three melee damage to each hero, two lightning damage to each villain, and another Synergy Surge:

  • Baron Blade plays Hasten Doom for two damage to each hero, then plays Mobile Defense Platform.
  • Friction plays BIIIRDS.
  • Ermine runs, guns, hits Ra for 2, runs, guns, hits Legacy for 2, pulls a Long Con; Expat discards Raptor Bot, Ra discards Throat Jab, Legacy discards Durasteel Chains, Naturalist discards Primal Charge, Omnitron-X discards ???.

Also, who can do the most with Gung Ho?

Also don't forget that someone needs to put a card from hand on top of their deck before tops of decks get discarded.

Also, also, if there are any ties in damage taking, send it to Naturalist since I have DR.

Top card is MDP Turbolift.

Omnitron-X discards Targetting Arrow, Then puts Ta Moko on top, it is discarded.

Proletariat discards Overwhelm the Mighty

Omnitron-X puts Targetting Arrow on top of the deck.

Proletariat got hit for 2 to all targets, then put out 2 clones, then hit for 2 again, then gains and loses obstruction before it can be used.

So it should look like

P - 20

after all that, right?

Okay, updated mine to include the Last Stop missing (thankfully) and the damage. For the Gung Ho I'm inclined to either give Expat another shot with the Assault Rifle, or gamble with Omnitronks. Thoughts?

What cards went back on top that are worth playing now?  I don't want targetting arrow until my power phase so I won't hypersonic Friction, since she's helping us more than her with her damage, and Hypersonic won't stop the card playing anyway.

We need to find out what others are reclaiming.

I'll put Cause and Effect on top of my deck. Ermine will discard it unless I have some way to grab it before my turn.

Assault Rifle was destroyed by Ermine. Ra's power won't do much damage due to Calypso. I can use Rhino power to draw 2 cards or Omni-X can Timeshift someone.

Friction is definitely not helping us. She's giving every villain 2 card plays on each of her turns. I really think we need to kill her as fast as possible.

Good point with Ermine, I could arrow Friction now if people want, but then she'll be Hypersonic'd, but then I'd be able to fleet of foot before I Hypersonic.

So I guess Timeshifting Myself could be a good strategy here.

There's another problem. Ermine should have discarded the Turbolift from the environment before Fright Train's play (unless phantaskippy took this into account and just didn't announce the discard). So, someone might actually be getting hit.

Expat discard from deck is RPG Launcher

Baron Blade discard from deck is Old Tricks - New Allies

Expat will put RPG Launcher back on top of deck.

(Note: With Assault Rifle gone I don't have a weapon in play.  Gung-ho on Expat would probably then be "For the Greater Good" via Load power; which would get RPG Launcher in hand and a one-shot play of either it or Hasty Augmentation for someone else to use a power.  No additional power due to BB device and I end up -2 net HP.)

I opted for the RPG over the Assault Rifle since the former can remove an on-going.

So we'll get several environment cards, but none of them are a real threat if we are going to End of Days this round.  Sky deck could be interesting too.

We might need some fodder to keep it alive though, Ra has two cards in play (rocking some serious damage already) but if anyone else has some to spare would be good.

Friction is at +1 taken, and after End of Days I can throw Reveal the Flaws when we need it.

If we can get Friction down this round and End of days, then we'll be in pretty good shape.  Blade's Turret is going to hit for 4 damage to each of us, and Friction will hit us all for 1, and Proletariat can still deal damage.  but other than that we're pretty set up to get through End of days.

Sounds like End of Days will be played to remove devices and sundry addtional villain cards (plus the hero cards).

Cold Snap/Dual Crowbars is, however, going to work over some villains first.  That sounds like a very good opportunity location for Twist the Ether to go into play even though we'll lose it at the end of the round.

Ermine's (not Friction's) advanced text destroys equipment and ongoing, which happens after Ra's turn. However, keep in mind that between the two card plays granted by Friction, Ermine is likely to destroy some more stuff. Maybe Expat can dig something up?

I had TtE and a few one-shots and just went with the former since at a minimum it increase the Cold Snap damage and also allow damage type to be varied if that is required.  And I'm pretty sure that will help more than a Hasty Augmentation would have.

Need two things done to complete turn:

1. Citizen Slash triggered Berth - so an environment card comes out. (DONE - it was a Shield Generator)

2. One of the three heroes with 14 HP volunteers for the 2 damage from Citizen Slash.

Shield Generator [6] enters play, and as long as Friction doesn't cause the destruction of Crowbars snap will go off with them in play.

Outside of Friction's deck we have 13 targets to hit (with Twist he'll be able to damage devices) at 3 damage a pop that's 39, + the 2 non-birds from Friction's deck, then all the birds, which should be over 10.

So we are looking at maybe 75 damage dealt with the second shot of crowbars, which, given the initial 3 to all non-device targets should be able to KO 2-3 of the villains.

Start with the clones, using their damage on whoever, then work through the friction targets, drop Friction low enough for her hit to finish her, then move on to target #2, and so on, just making sure you finish any characters after their targets have been hit and finish them with their own shot.

Basically if we can survive friction I think we have it won.

My suggestions for targetting character cards:

Friction

Ermine

Prole

Fright Train can't deal damage this round, and Blade can't be hurt until we clear his devices.  I've got reveal the flaws to help get rid of the stragglers, and if Ermine is dead she can't destroy Crowbars.

Pity I don't have a BeeBot drawn to potentially roll out so that we can keep Crowbars/Cold Snap/TtE around past End of Days.  Turning Birdfest into a detriment for the villains greatly appeals to me.  :stuck_out_tongue:

(I'd Ra-ther not take the 2 damage, because I'd like to not die before my turn so Crowbars can happen.)

Right, so Friction's turn goes as follows: Her first play is Synergy Surge, dealing 2 lightning damage to all villain targets and playing the top card of each villain deck in order. Her contribution is ALL OF THE BIRDS, and 3x1 lightning damage to each hero. Then, for her end-of-turn play, she plays Unhealthy Speed, then Synergy Surge, deals 2 lightning damage to all villain targets (killing all the birds and...

Oh.

Oh dear.

And breaking Stolen Gear. We've had its health listed at 7 all this time, but it was at 3 at the end of Friction's last turn, and nothing healed it, so it breaks. So Friction's plays off Synergy Surge consist of two Unhealthy Speeds, some birds, and the Gear, which then triggers and plays the rest of the birds, Unhealthy Speed and SYNERGY SURGE #3. Dead birds, new birds, more villain plays, two more Unhealthy Speeds.

Balls.

EDIT: Assuming nothing else occurs, that's seventy villain cards played in one turn. That is fairly impressive.

EDIT #2: Wait, never mind, Stolen Gear is a device. So two card plays for everyone, not three.

Naturalist shrugs the damage off.

Ermine's cards are:

  1. Reactive Plating - device; Ermine gets DR1 and RP deals 2 revenge damage the first time each turn that someone hits her.
  2. Slight of Hand - One player must put a card from their hand on top of their deck and she deals every hero target 1 projectile.

Don't forget that Berth will spit out another Environment card since a target entered play during Friction's turn.

===

Baron Blade plays:

1)  Mobile Defense Platform (#3)

2)  Vengeful Assault

-- Deals hero with the most cards in play 3 melee (I think that's Ra)

-- Increase damage dealt by villain targets by 1 until the start of Baron Blade's turn.

===

I think this seals that we play End of Days if possible.  Just too much villain stuff out there, and the Remote Turret is going to do 5 to all heroes at this point.  Not to mention getting rid of Lady Luck.

Also, while TtE and Dual Crowbars are still active, and assuming that Legacy doing "Gung-Ho" as his power is it better for him to Gung-Ho Ra for the healing and a Dual Crowbar Pyre attack, or potentially doing Gung-ho on Expat so that she can play Hasty Augmentation to allow Ra to due the Pyre attack with an additional +2 damage bonus on both the Pyre and Dual Crowbars?

===

Also still need someone to have taken the 2 irreducible damage from Citizen Slash between Ra, Legacy, and Naturalist.

For Sleight of Hand I am willing to put RPG Launcher back on top of my deck.

This is going to be long:

the first cards go into play fine.  Then the second round of plays:

1 melee to all hero targets

2 to all villains (destroys all birds, Major Flay and a Proletariat Clone

SO:

reveal and discard for Bird #1:  Regroup and recover, Everyman's Strength

Play:  Violent Trickster, each player discards 1, Proletariat deals Omnitron-X 2 melee [1].

Reveal and discard for Bird #2:  Defensive Formation

Play:  Violent Trickster, each player discards 1, Proletariat deals Omnitron-X 2 melee, Incapping Omnitron-X

Reveal and discard for bird #3:  Proletariat, Regroup and recover

Play:  Hapless Strike, Ra deals 2+1-2 Fire damage [8], and one other target up to 4 damage of a type of his choice (not fire I assume)

Reveal and discard for bird #4:  Proletariat, Share in the struggle, Overwhelm the Mighty.

Deck Empty.

Then back to card play:

Baron Blade Vengeful Assault deals Ra 3 melee [7], +1 to all future villain damage

Friction plays 2 unhealthy Speed for 2x2 to all heroes and a ton of birds

Ermine Plays, everyone card to top of deck and 2 damage to all heroes

Fright Train plays Shadowy Ambush

Proletariat shuffles deck and plays Defensive Formation.

I believe this is ending Health (aside from birds and devices)

Baron Blade  32

 Slash  2

Friction  17

Ermine  18

 Calypso  4

Fright Train  26

 Mangrove  7

 Major Flay  X

Prole  16

Expat  2

Ra  1

Naturalist  9

Glegs  4

Omni-X  X

Start of Ra's Turn he can deal all the damage he can:

The order of Lucky Cards entering play for slain enemies is:

1st destroyed villain:  Inconcievable obstruction

2nd destroyed villain:  Hapless Strike (in which Ra is incapped and the damage stops)

Everyone needs to discard 2 cards and 1 hero puts one on top of their deck.  (except for Omni, because he's toast)

So one of the highest trash counts needs to shuffle their trash into their deck.

Then someone can draw a card, since everybody is rather low on cards.

I'd see what Legacy can best use.  BB is going to hit low for 2 HP at a minimum; so Expat or Ra will go down to that, assuming that his card play(s) don't do more.  Additional DR for Legacy might be useful as a counter for Nemesis Bonus damage, unless another card draw appears more useful to him.

If we do get the option for Expat or Ra to survive it should be Ra since Expat is pretty much tapped out and her incap side is probably more useful to the group.

Baron is unlikely to deal enough to kill Ra with -1 taken, since his devices will all be destroyed.  He'll get his end of turn damage and if you would rather sacrifice Expat than Ra

I'll throw -1 taken on Ra, so that unless hasten doom comes out he will survive.

Sorry for the delay, Pax attacked.

Environment plays Battalion Gunner [3], Berth plays MDP Turbolift, which reveals and puts into play Propulsion Systems [10].

End:  Gunner deals all hero targets 1 energy.

In play:  Berth, Shield Generator [4], Battalion Gunner [3], Propulsion Systems [10]

Trash:  Bridge, MDP Turbolift(2)

(Note: Multiple corrections due to End of Days clearing things out.  I think Ra's +1 DR effect carries since it was granted by Legacy, but Naturalist's DR went away.)

I think current hero HP are:

Expat: 2; Ra 2; Naturalist 8; Greatest Legacy 3 (?)

Given that:

====

ROUND 3 - V5(now 1) vs Fading Heroes

Baron Blade - 32
Start: Nothing
Play: Hasten Doom; 2 Toxic damage to each hero; Expat [X]; Naturalist [5]
2+1 Toxic to Greatest Legacy [X]
           2-1 Toxic to Ra [1]
Play Old Tricks - New Allies (no effect since there are no other villain decks)
End:
-- Baron Blade deals Ra 2-1 melee damage [X]
Baron Blade deals Baron Blade 2 melee damage [30]

Expat (incap) - Naturalist can inflict one projectile damage the next time they do damage

So, don't forget that End of Days goes off at the beginning of the Environment turn. So Berth and Shield Generator are gone; Propulsion Systems never gets played.

Also, those of us with things in play no longer have those things. Naturalist, for instance, no longer has DR. So, I think I should be at 5 and everyone else is incapped.

If this is correct, the 1 damage will be more useful for me since any form I put into play (the only power I have right now) will just get destroyed by Friction anyway.

On Friction's turn, I have nothing to destroy.

On Ra's turn, I'd like a power use to switch to Crocodile form.

On Ermine's turn, I discard Consecrated Ground and Hyperactive Senses from my deck.

On my turn:

HP: 5

Hand: Final Dive, Sanctifying Strike, Cornered Beast

Play: Crocodile

Trash: Brutal Censure, Consecrated Ground, Final Dive, End of Days, Crafty Assault, Hyperactive Senses, Primal Charge, Rhino, Gazelle, Cause and Effect

Effects: Damage +1

-----------------------------------

Start:

Play: Sanctifying Strike - deal 2 melee and 2 projectile damage to Baron Blade [26]; draw Consecrated Ground; heal 1 [6]

Power: Transform to Rhino form

Draw: Brutal Censure

End:

HP: 6

Hand: Brutal Censure, Consecrated Ground, Final Dive, Cornered Beast

Play: Rhino

Trash: Brutal Censure, Consecrated Ground, Sanctifying Strike, Final Dive, End of Days, Crafty Assault, Hyperactive Senses, Primal Charge, Crocodile, Gazelle, Cause and Effect

If Greatest Legacy started the Round at 3 HP he was incapped.  If he had 4+ he is hanging around at whatever it was, minus three.

I corrected the start of round;

Expat (still incapped)

Ra (still incapped by End of Turn attack)

Greatest Legacy (incapped unless he started round with 4+ HP)

Naturalist (at 5 HP; granted additional 1 projectile attack by Expat incap effect)

I think Baron Blade is at 24;  32 (start) -2 (hit himself) - 2 -2 (Sanctifying Strike) - 2 (bonus attack from Expat incap)

I think the MDP is up.

ROUND 4 - Blade vs Naturalist Show-down Hoe-down

Baron Blade - 24
Start: Nothing
Play: Powered Remote Turret [7]

End:
-- Baron Blade deals Naturalist 2-2 melee damage [5]
Baron Blade deals Baron Blade 2 melee damage [22]
Powered Remote Turret deals Naturalist 2-2 projectile damage [5]

=======

Baron Blade - 22

Powered Remote Turret - 7

Naturalist - 5

Battalion Gunner - 3

Propulsion Systems - 10

=======

Expatriette - X (INCAP)

Naturalist may choose one of these three options:
-o- One hero may use a power now
-o- Destroy a target with 1 HP
-o- Select a hero.  The next time that hero uses a power that hero also deals 1 target 1 projectile damage

Edit: I think Naturalist current DR is 2; Rhino form and OX incap effect.  Adjusted damages accordingly.

So with the powers letting naturalist change forms and deal damage, then her own power switch to rhino and Omni giving DR, looks like this could be won still, although the likelihood of it being resolved in any timely fashion is almost 0.

Once Baron's devices start messing things up it will get really dragged out.

I'm cool for going as long as people want, but this could take 20 rounds or more to resolve, if ever.

I'm going to try to speed this along and just state which incap powers I'd like to use. If anyone objects to this, please let me know. I think we might be able to put Blade down fast.

Naturalist's DR is currently 2.

Expatriette: I'll take the 1 projectile damage.

Friction: destroys Rhino form.

Ra: Power to play Rhino form; deal 1 projectile damage to Baron Blade [21]

Ermine: Discard top two cards of my deck (Gazelle and Natural-Born Vigor)

Naturalist: (HP 5, Rhino in play)

Play: Cornered Beast

Power: Rhino to draw 2 cards (End of Days, Hyperactive Senses)

Draw: Crafty Assault

Effects: DR2

Fright Train: Naturalist deals himself 0 damage

Legacy: Use Rhino to draw 2 cards (Primal Charge, Bestial Shift)

Proletariat: Shuffle my trash into deck

Omni-X: Renew the 1 DR

It's the environment's turn.

grysqrl, Expatriette's incap lets you deal damage next time you use a power, not next time you attack. So your power use on Ra's turn gives you the 1 projectile damage. I think maybe you were planning to save them up until you were in Crocodile form, but it doesn't work, I don't think.

Power: Cornered Beast - destroy Battalion Gunner

Draw: Natural-Born Vigor
