People may not be interested in this, and it may turn out horribly, (in fact it will probably go terribly wrong, but I'm all for that since it should be a fun sort of wrong) but I thought I'd give it a go, because it could be fun:

Sentinels Deckbuilding

Each hero builds a 40-card deck out of cards from other hero decks. There are three restrictions on this:

1) You may not use more cards than exist in one copy of the game (so no filling a deck with Eyes on the Prizes, for example).

2) You may not use cards from more than four hero decks.

3) Two player decks may not use cards from the same hero.

Themed decks are nice, but not required. And obviously references to a particular hero on hero cards get changed to whichever hero you're using, and the same with the villains.

The first rule should be fairly self-explanatory, the third is so that Impromptu Invention, Eye on the Prize, etc. don't appear in every single deck. The third is mostly to stop one player from hogging most of the heroes. Your character card should belong to one of the heroes your deck is built out of. All heroes and promos up to and including Vengeance are fair game. As for your opposition, I'm going to let the environment be neutral, and I shall be building a deck for Apostate (using no more than four villain decks).

If you're interested, claim whichever heroes you want and start building! You don't have to post a deck list; that's all on the honour system.

We still use 1 character card right?

Young Legacy character card.

Legacy Deck

Mr. Fixer deck.

That is all for now, I'll let others claim decks before I grab any more

Curses! I was going to choose Fixer! I was totally going get Wraith and Fixer, so that way I could get Jack handle, Throwing Knives, and Micro-Targeting Computer, that way I could deal all non-targets 3 damage, 3 times!

Alright, i think i'll go with;

  1. Fanatic's Character Card and deck.
  2. Expat's deck
  3. Wraith's deck.

Angel with a Shotgun...

At that just use Temest's card, and add in Expat so you can utility belt squall and submachine gun.

Or maybe just Submachine gun jack/handle micro.  That would be insane to figure out.

Yeah, Fixer is the most broken deck rebuilding engine in the game.

My Goal is Lead from the front/mantis/wrench/fortitude/superhuman.  Anything under 8 damage goes right back at you.  (at least once)

Would combining Haka and Bunker get you The Juggernaut?

Hmm.  I think I can come up with something:

Will start with Ra character card; and Ra and AZ decks initially.  That might be enough since the fire/cold theme is solidly there.

I will be interested in what someone does with Tachyon, and moreso with Nightmist.  Both seem solidly themed , and for the latter you'd need [red] numbers for non-Nightmist cards unless they are default [zero].  Unless you're hitting the Nightmist deck solely for defensive cards or equipment I guess.

I was thinking of a Scholar with big counterpunches. His main problem, for me, is usually not being able to draw and play enough cards. Tachyon and Eternal Haka can give him great card draw and Tachyon can let him play a lot more cards. Now I can get Alchemical Redirection and Expect the Worst out in the same turn! Plus Haka of Restoration with Mortal Form to Energy.

I have one - but want to test run it a few times.

Ra (character card) - just call me RaaZ!

Ra, AZ, Chrono-Ranger decks.  I dipped into the last mainly for Jim's Hat, Displaced Armory, and Eye on the Prize.  Plus a few bounties - but no good way to fish them out.

I suspect that the deck might be trying to do too much and thus will not do anything well.  I also want to test to see how well it can cycle one-shots in a turn since I don't think it has a monster one-hit kill capability.  I went more towards the plinking approach than the AZ "kill myself to kill you" style.

Right, so we have:

  • phantaskippy - Young Legacy, Mr. Fixer
  • Ronway - DW Expatriette, Fanatic, The Wraith
  • Oaktree - Ra, Absolute Zero, Chrono-Ranger
  • grysqrl - The Naturalist, The Scholar, Tachyon, Haka

grysqgl is finished, Oaktree wants to test his, not sure about the other two. A fifth player is still welcome, though not required.

Any thoughts on environment? I was thinking Silver Gulch, just as a place where nothing hugely swingy happens (save for Lost in the Past, but that's deal-with-able).

Y'know, this is probably the least onerous chance I'll ever have for playing Dark Visionary.  Does someone have an image of the back of her card for me?  Otherwise I'd have to use standard Visi's incap powers, and I've learned that mixing and matching card sides doesn't always work well.

Welcome aboard Envisioner!

If it looks like no one is going to want to use Unity I will add her to my line-up.  Since I'm going one-off heavy I think a couple of her cards (like BrainStorm) fit the Ranger/Ra "plink you!" style, and I think the deck in hand needs more card drawing capability.  I also am a big fan of "Hasty Augmentation" as a support card.

(Further Comment:)

Tweaked in about 5 Unity cards while stripping out some AZ stuff.  It just seems to flow better and I like using Unity's "Brain Storm" as a card draw mechanic more than AZ's Glacial card.  The deck strikes me as working out as "OK, but not awesome."  It doesn't lock itself into one style of play or particular combo to seek out, but also never quite links together a killer play.  I think the current ratio of cards is 18 Ra, 11 Chrono-Ranger, 7 AZ, and 4 Unity.  So it's "Fire Ranger 01".

(And I will feeled embarrassed putting this up with some of the other awesome-sauce that will be out there.    )

Omnitron-X character card, Bunker Omnitron-X and Tempest.

Take shackles, lightning slash or chain lightning, maybe aquatic correspondence.  Add Omni's components and plating, some of bunker's equips and his modes.

A faster Bunker with a powr that puts cards in play through turret mode, with components and bio engineering beam and either flechettes or ball lightning for destruction

Question:  How will overdrive work, will it work on Atomic Glare?  What about Motivational Strike as well?

Alright heroes, we need some planning.  What roles are your heroes taking?  what do you specialize in?  How much destruction, team help type stuff do you have?

Is Ra planning on using Imbued fire, will that screw anyone up?  who is tough, anyone with healing or damage prevention?  etc.

Right now I have three very different directions I can go with my deck, depending on where others are going with theirs.

I am all about the damage. I plan on getting Utility Belt, Micro-Targeting Computer, Durasteel Chains, Tactical Shot Gun, Pride, and Prejudice. Allowing my to do 7 with Tact, along with 5 damage each with Pride and Prejudice. I will probably mostly focus on the highest, dealing 17 damage a round to them. If need be, I can easily target others as well.

Getting Equipment shouldn't be too much of an issue for me, as I have 3 Impromtu Inventions and 2 Arsenal Access. Plus all 3 copies of Quick Draw.

I also have two copies of both RPG Launcher and Grappling Hook, so destruction won't be too much of an issue. I do have a copy End of Days, just in case it gets a little too hairy.

I should be able to get Hair Trigger Reflexes pretty easily as well, which will deal any target played 4 points of damage, if I can get all the cards out.

I also have 2 copies of Throat Jab and a copy of Zealous Offensive, so I will be able to shut down some damage.

I also have 2 copies of Final Dive, which happens to deal Projectile damage, so that is going to be quite fun.

I have a copy of Sub Machine Gun, just incase I have to hit everything for a round.

For near the end game, I have Wrathful Retribution and Divine Focus, which will pile on a ton of damage.

A have a copy of Embolden that I will be able to use to give me a boost in power usages for a short amount of time.

That's mostly it...

Mine is going to be basically the opposite of Ronway's. Lots of DR, healing, and damage redirection; but very few ways of dealing damage. Getting down to 40 cards was hard.

I'm planning to be in Rhino form the entire game, giving me 1DR plus a power for card draw. I took nine other Naturalist cards that will let me heal, redirect, or add DR. Naturalist's base power will let me go right back into Rhino form, so if we need to destroy a card, it should be a prime candidate without hurting my setup too badly (unless I need it for redirection). Natural-Born Vigor for extra power usage (which turns into extra card draws or extra healing).

I took most of my cards from Scholar. All of the Mortal Form to Energies for counterpunching. Transmutive Recovery and Bring What You Need for card draw. Expect the Worst for DR. And a few others. I didn't take Alchemical Redirection, because I think Naturalist already has enough of that.

Not a lot from Haka. Enduring Intercession for lasting redirection. Ta Moko for DR. Dominion for card draw. Haka of Restoration will pair nicely with Mortal Form to Energy.

Most of the Tachyon cards that I took either boost card draw (Fleet of Foot, Pushing the Limits) or card play (HUD Goggles, Lightning Reflexes). I'll need the card draw to fuel Mortal Form to Energy and Haka of Restoration and the extra plays will help me get set up faster (and re-set up, assuming our villain is going to be taking out our ongoings/equipment pretty regularly). I threw in one Blinding Speed for good measure.

Mine went through a major redesign.

I'm low damage, and focusing on support and messing with villains.  Parse, Argent Adept, Visionary and Legacy.  Now using Greatest Legacy's card.

Yeah, I'm not using fixer now. . .  But I am ready.

Lots of boosting and being mean to the villain deck, but no destruction.  So our 4th might want to have a good bit of destruction.

That's what makes Jack Handle so great! I want to have Hair Trigger Reflexes in play, along with Micro Targeting Computer. Every time a non-hero target enters play, I deal all targets 3 damage. Oh the murdering I will be able to do with that… Toss in my previous statement with Tactical Shotgun, Pride, and Prejudice, on my power phase I will hit all targets for 17 damage… Man it sounds like it'll be a blast…

Either or.  I don't care who gets the kill as long as it's dead.

Given my current cards I am favoring Cold Snap next turn over Impale since broad damage looks more benefical for the team than an extra point on Apostate (assuming that's who I would put Impale on.)  And assuming we manage to keep on-goings out for an extended time.

If it is necessary for Apostate to be down to 16 HP at this stage I can modify turn.

When he flips back, isn't he just at 5 HP? His HP doesn't get restored when he flips to his front side - the damage that would kill him is just prevented.

If true, then he is at [2] and about to be toasted.

Not true… My Divine Focus kicks in first, and steals the kill from you! Woo!

I didn't say he was still alive when I was crushing his face. Unless...did you steal his face?

So grysqrl, how did you think your deck performed?  Needs tweaks, serious rework, or more testing to be sure?

I'm not going to rush to judgement. I think it was decent, but didn't really shine. I was hoping for some HUD goggles, but those aren't too easy to get. I want to play it through again a few times before I make any changes. This was pretty cool - if anyone wants to try this again, I'd love to give my deck another go.

I am up for another. I can build a new villain, or if anybody else wants a go at that then building a hero would be cool as well.

I think I could do another, I would even be willing to choose new heroes to mix a deck with if someone wants any of the heroes I used in this game. I do however call Mr. Fixer at the very least. I'll select other heroes after everyone else chooses.

It seems like the heroes have a decided advantage here. I’m surprised no one did a deck of denial.

I'll build a villain deck.
