July 4, 1944

London, England

Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force

Anthony looked around, the park was overrun with soldiers, barricades, tents, jeeps, you name it it was there.  Otherwise, it would probably be very beautiful.  If Tyler Vance was correct, General Eisenhower would be in Normandy and Paul Parsons VII will be here for a secret meeting about some suspicious happenings that would turn out to be the launch of Fyodor Romonat's War-Zeppelins.  This is where Ivan Romonat, mistaken to be Fyodor's cousin would murder Parsons, and supposedly create the world he had grown up in.  If Parsons lives, Romonat is stopped, and Parsons' son is around to lead them against Voss.

The mood was noticably lax on the base.  Anthony looked around, trying to get an eye on Parsons.

Instead he saw approaching one of the smaller tents three men, one in some kind of shiny metal suit, another one, he was huge and wearing some serious armor, even if it did look pretty beat up, the last one was a freaking cowboy, with one arm?

"What the heck. . ." Anthony got up and started to follow them.

Looking around the edge of the tent he could see them, and what looked to be Parsons, they were arguing.  None of them looked like Romonat.

Suddenly he heard a yell "You won't live that long old man!" and then an explosion.  They were attacking Parsons, Anthony ran around the tent, trying to get over on Parsons side, as he arrived a man in an armored suit ran by him to check on Parsons.

He ran up behind him and as he did he could feel the air around him feel warp, things seemed really wierd, like it had in the portal.

"The generator is operational, this time will be fixed." the shiny metal man stated.

"What?" Parsons asked as he got up.

"He means that when you die here, now, you die everywhere." The cowboy added.

"And with you dies your son!"

EPISODE 7:

PVP Match

Number of Heroes:  6

Team 1:  Omnitron-X, Crono Ranger, Bunker EOW

Team 2:  Greatest Legacy, GI Bunker, The Argent Adept

Environment:  Time Cataclysm

How the round works:

Omnitron-X and Greatest Legacy are captains, after all heroes have players they will report the order of play to me through a PM.  The Environment will go first, Team 1 will have their first hero play, then Team 2 will have their first hero play, then Team 1 2nd, Team 2 2nd, T1 3rd, T2 3rd, start over.

How the mechanics of PVP will work:

The team you are on count as hero targets for your cards.  The other team count as villain targets for your cards.  Cards that destroy villain ongoing cards may destroy equipment or ongoing cards.  Cards that affect the environment affect the environment.  Environment cards treat both teams as heroes and villains.  Cards like Crushing hallway can be destroyed by anyone from either team.

If a hero plays a card that destroys a card, the hero playing the card chooses what to destroy.

If an environment destroys a card your team chooses, anyone can choose for their team if others are taking a while to get back on.

Further environment card clarifications:

Main computer room will play the top card of the environment deck instead of the villain deck.

Marsquake will destroy one card from each team, and one from the environment (instead of one villain, one hero, one environment)

Other Issues:

Don't feel that there is a right or wrong side to play on, this match doesn't make a huge impact in the story line, but it brings two of the original six possibilities back together and lets us rebuild a team.  Do your best to crush the other team, and don't take it too seriously, PVP is not balanced.

This hopefully will go quickly, gang up on people, fight as dirty as you can, and be polite.

Any issues/questions as to how things work will be resolved by me.

So, first come, first serve, lets see what the future holds!

If you don't think you would like PVP play anyway, I need six people to play this match so we can get back to the normal games and standard matches.  This is the only PVP match we will see.

If you want more on your characters rational and backstory let me know, I'm happy to share.

Feel free to communicate by PM, there are spies from both teams watching this thread.

EDIT:  The environment is going to go first, I normally do this, just forgot when I was making the instructions.

If you want to PM each other, or however you wish to communicate.  I need to know the order for each team, and then team 1's first player can start.

If we don't want to post our hands for everyone to see then for your turn you don't need to post hands or draws, otherwise use the same format.  If we do this I'll need everyone's opening hand, and then any cards drawn.

You may want to post an effects summary at the end of your turn posts, since things will be a little chaotic.

There will be a cut-off point for the fight if it gets locked in a defensive battle, but I'm not telling when that is, since the heroes don't know it, just giving you a head's up so you won't be caught off guard.

(2)GI Bunker:  27

(1)Chrono Ranger:  28

(2)The Argent Adept:  24

(1)Bunker EOW:  27

(2)Greatest Legacy:  30

Oh, and (H)=3

The world around them twisted, and it looked like they could see many versions of this place, some with different people there, others with a bombed out camp, and others. . .

"What are you doing?  You can't tamper with time like this!" Anthony yelled, as he grasped what was happening.  They were forcing the timelines together, creating a fixed point, this fight wouldn't just alter one timeline, this fight would write history across every timeline, if Legacy died here, Voss, on every Earth, across all of time and space. . .

Stephen Graves watched the timelines intersecting.  He smiled.  When this man, this Legacy died, the Tyrant died with him.  No Earth would see that day, No Earth would be ruled by one sadistic super human, "Not if we get the job done."

Ok, since voting will take a ton of time, I'm going to arbitrarily decide that this rift in time is fully random and at the start I will roll to see what is destroyed.

Other effects I will go with:

Crushing Hallway will be by volunteer basis, I would like each person to post on the secret posts if they will discard, if there are multiple people I will roll to see who does it.  The rest are pretty easy to work out.

I know this really sucks, but I'm going to disagree.

Cannot overrides can.  That is official.

With both Turret Mode and Upgrade mode in play you would have all three of your phases banned.

Upgrade Mode says "You Cannot use Powers"

Turret Mode says "You may use an additional Power during your power phase"

Cannot overrides the can, and you would not be able to use powers, or for that matter play cards or draw cards (once Turret entered play)

I am sorry for this, but you need to redo your turn dpt.

I did not think about Fixed Point when I first saw your post.

I'm actually going to recommend we call the game now.  Team Past has two major options right now:  let Legacy play out of his hand or to cycle Back-Fist Strike with GI Bunker's incap ability.  Using the latter strategy.  That deals me net 4 damage per round, with Legacy gaining 2 (one from AA, one from his own Gung-Ho), killing me in 4 rounds. If Legacy plays cards, his damage cycle slows down much further and delays any potential victory for Team Past. On Team Future's side, I can deal straight-up 9 damage per round, which would take down Legacy in 3 rounds--less, if I get a Turret Mode or an Auxiliary Power Source.

For the sake of entertainment, though, I'm perfectly fine with the comic book trope of the two heroes squaring off and finally deciding to talk, rather than beat each other in the face.  If you'd like to continue the game, though, we can do so.

Phantaskippy--I'll see about putting together a critique of the PvP mechanics and send them your way as soon as I can finish them.  Probably by the end of the week.

This is why I think people shouldn't play the front of a promo with the back of a normal hero.  Bunker's trash-cycling ability is VERY strong, and I don't think it's right that Panzer-Buster Bunker should have access to it.  GI Bunker has a much more effective power than Initialize, so more damage is dished out that game, and normal Bunker's incap abilities may well prove too good along with it.

On Team Future's side, I can deal straight-up 9 damage per round, which would take down Legacy in 3 rounds–

If you were assuming that you could get a power on O-X's incap turn, you can't.  I have "draw a card", "play a card", and "one target gains DR 1".  And I'd prefer I got to offer those options at least once before we called the game.

Con was nervous.  The fixed point generator wasn't a tested technology, and the field wasn't stable.  It became impossible to keep track of all the variant timelines they were dragging into this event, and it was pretty certain that there would be some sudden drastic changes in some of them.

If only they would hurry, if the field failed before they finished the fight then all this work would be lost, and with so much determined they might not be able to make a second attempt.

Con scanned the area, the crude equipment from this time had nothing he could interface with.  How could he get a message to the front?  He scanned again, both Chrono and the Robot were out of communication, he couldn't even get a data upload.  But the other, the armored one, there was a still active HUD in that suit, even if the brute wasn't using it.  If only he could modify his signal to get through. . .

" tzzzt - wrong target, you need to stop, repeat:  you're after the wrong target."

Graves could hear the voice, but he tuned it out, he needed a one-track mind and that talking box wasn't going to cost him this opportunity.

"Get out of my ear!" he barked.

"Stop, there was a mistake, you're fighting the wrong man."  Con was desperate, if they let the other one get away this could all be for naught.

Jim Brooks felt like the steps at the old Stable after the Hayes boys had run through town.  He looked at his side, the bleeding had stopped thanks to all that metal tech Con had stuck in him, but the skin hadn't repaired yet and he looked a mess.  Those metal suits packed a punch, he'd have to talk to Con about getting something to blast through armor like that, or maybe some of that armor for himself.

He looked aroung him.  That Legacy guy they were after was still standing, and the fight seemed over.  Part of him worried about the consequences, the tyrant.  Mostly though he was relieved, that guy was a soldier fighting for America, not some monster.

"Con, status." Jim coughed.

. . .

Anthony laid back and closed his eyes.  Legacy was alive, he had done it, Legacy was still alive.  Baron Blade was still out there, but this first attempt on the Legacy line had failed, and he would be here for any others.  He just needed to rest.

. . .

Omnitron-X looked over his process log, errors were made.  Errors due to innacurate information.  His systems had not fully rebooted when the second temporal disruption had occured, the inteligence known as Con was inferior, but the logs were clear.  He would need to gather data on the timeline changes, errors were not something he was programmed to tolerate, let alone repeat.

. . .

The metal man was gone, just vanished.

"Con, that robot disappearred, track him." Jim ordered, he wasn't about to lose track of that thing.

Con replied, but Jim was busy, he had questions that needed answers.  One thing he had gotten used to in time travel, it didn't matter when you left, you still arrived at the same time.

. . .

"Alright soldier, on your feet."

Anthony wasn't a soldier, and he didn't need to stand; the speaker pulled him upright anyway.  It was him, it was the great big hero, Legacy, right there in front of him.  A handsome man with a warm smile and a grip like a steel vice.

"We've got a lot of stories here, and I'm thinking yours just might help tie all of this mess together."  Legacy had a suprisingly gentle voice, but his smile and posture were straight up Alpha Male, Anthony was looking at the epitome of a man's man, but inspite of himself, he liked him.  He couldn't help feeling that everything was going to be OK, and he couldn't help telling everything he knew.

Thanks for playing the PVP everyone!

E.  I loved it!

For me, it's somewhere between B and C.

Part of the biggest issue is the ability for players to actively target one hero and hammer them into the ground.  Team Future did that early on to make Argent Adept a non-factor, while Team Past did much the same (though it took longer) with Chrono-Ranger.  Eliminating heroes early makes things un-fun for those players.  I imagine that if I were one of those players, I'd have checked out almost entirely.

I felt the game really went overlong, particularly when it was myself and Legacy sitting back and staring at one another--him playing Next Evolution, then me countering and destroying it, over and over.  I do feel like cards that prevent damage entirely (Next Evolution, Hypersonic Assault, etc.) really are powerful in this setup, as they can effectly shut another team down.  My biggest worry on Team Future was the Next Evolution/Lead From The Front combo (which, obviously, never materialized), as Team Future was so dependent on projectile damage.

Honestly, I can't say I'd be interested in playing another PvP scenario.  I'm eager to get back to beating up on villains.

Yeah, it is often hard to know where to stop it, because often one timely card can turn the match.

Again, thanks for playing, I needed that match to tie two storylines together.

They were all together in the officers mess tent, discussing the details with Legacy, Lt. Matthews from the metal suit, and someone from Eisenhower's staff.  Legacy had managed to convince him of the potential threat of temporal destabilization and they had erected a 30yd. security perimeter around the tent, and were playing a Bing Crosby record to cover their voices.

They were discussing Baron Blade and his father Fyodor when they heard some shouts from outside, the robot Anthony now knew was called Omnitron-X had returned.  Omnitron explained that the future had changed quite a bit, apparently Blade had abandoned a quick srike, and in different timelines would attack allied command posts, make another attempt on Legacies life, or attempt to join his father and be killed.

No matter what happened there would be serious consequences, if he was allowed to attack the allied command infrastructure the push into Germany would bog down and the Soviets would conquer most of Germany.  Stalin would take the move as a sign of weakness and start a third world war that would be fought with atomic bombs and super weapons created by Ivan and Fyodor Romonat.  The end result would not be good for anyone.

In other lines Baron Blade lies low, bides his time and kills Legacy and thePresident of the United States in the early 60's, still before he would have a son.  The resulting whitch hunt would create paranoia and Super Humans would be hunted and the end result was Voss ruling the Earth.

If Blade was allowed to attempt to join his father, Fyodor would have him killed, convinced he was a spy.  Convinced others knew of his plans he would ally with certain powers in the Communist Party and there would still be a third World War, in the early 80's with a nuclear shield protecting certain cities in the Soviet Union while the rest of the planet burned.

There was one point Omnitron could lock down in Blade's actions, he would be heading to Paris to plan his next move.

Stay tuned for Episode 8: Paris when it Sizzles (and booms)  I think I'll hold off on posting he next episode for a bit.  With Christmas here and new years, and then I'm gone to Magfest from the 2nd to 5th.  So after I get back I'll start the new episode, around the 6th or 7th.  If someone else wants to run a game go for it, since I think we are down to one game going on right now.

Thanks again for running these. I think I'm somewhere around a B. A few thoughts:

  • Ongoing/equipment destruction is super-powerful. When creating teams, I think it would be important to balance ongoing destruction (everyone on Team Future has it, but only one on Team Past). Maybe the person doing the destroying doesn't get to pick what gets destroyed? It could be random or the destroyee could choose.
  • Alternating play order seems to give a slight benefit to the team that goes first. You might consider revising the order to A1, B1, B2, A2, A3, B3 instead of A1, B1, A2, B2, A3, B3.
  • The environment was more annoying than anything; especially in situations where destroying the environment card benefits everyone on both teams but one person on one team has to pay the price to get rid of it. This might be worse for some environments than others - Silver Gulch (with Lost in Time removed) would probably be OK.
  • Echo PlatinumWarlock - it's a little less fun when one player gets focused down and eliminated right off the bat. Maybe make it so that players don't get incapped - you have to get everyone on the other team down to zero HP, but individuals who are at (or below) zero keep their cards and keep on fighting. It might be appropriate to start with less HP to keep the game from dragging out.

I will say this match was really hurt by Adept being sent back, he is terrible at PVP, and focusing him down actually allowed Team past to be better than they should have been, focusing down bunker would have ended the match much faster, but then no one knew that because there isn't a lot of PVP experience going into this, and as a villain focusing Adept would be ideal, but PVP is different.

I Like the idea of all heroes stay in the game until all are at 0, that takes the least balanced part of PVP (incap abilities) out of the equation and really changes the game.  I will try it.

Some rules tweaks would have to be made (Legacy can't redirect damage to himself if he's at 0hp being an easy one), but it is worth looking into.
