Effects:

I vote that the Toy Master got hit, since I was always going to play an Ongoing this turn anyway.  Also when Shamise dies, Tempest should get the Rod since he doesn't have an innate damage power...it'll be redundant if he plays Grevious Hail Storm, but he's still the best candidate to hold the rod other than possibly Argent, who currently has little use for his Power phase, but aspires to eventually change that (if he doesn't die first).

Granite Oni has DR 1 in and of itself, and all projections have DR 1, so only 2 damage gets through to him, leaving him at 4HP.  Good job on the Tooth Fairy tho.  Also, I think your EOT trash should not contain an Arsenal Access.

Uh, if you are talking about the advanced text for Dreamer then we have an issue, because the first round I would have done 1 instead of 2 damage and stun bolt wouldn't have gotten through reduction at all.

The illusory demons would have been at 4 after I shot them, stun bolt wouldn't have done anything and Ra would have reduced it to 2hp instead of killing it.  Shamise would drop it to 1hp and it would be alive for the villain turn.

We didn't apply the reduction the entire first round.

We've got 1 vote for The Toy Master taking that hit, so put him at 1 and the Illusory Demon at 3. That's what I was hoping was cleared up.

Cedistic Dissonant is the only Ongoing in play, so that would get destroyed.

I have written this turn under the assumption that it's cool for me to take the Rod of Anubis. If we decide that's not the case, I will make a few adjustments.

Freedom Tempest

HP: 13

Hand:   Flash Flood, Cleaning Downpour, Shielding Winds, Otherworldly Resielence, Localized Hurricane

  • Deal 3 (4-1DR) lightning damage to Granite Oni #1 [0]
  • Deal 2 (3-1DR) lightning damage to Granite Oni #2 [1] (now known as Granite Oni)

I don't suppose we could consider not making her flip just yet?  It might be nice if we could take several more turns to set up before we make her get hyper-violent.  IIRC, her flipside deals 3 damage to every hero and plays three villain cards each turn....that could turn into a slaughter fast.  Flipping her now means not losing 5 ongoings, but wouldn't it be better to get like ten ongoings into play while not taking damage, giving us time to heal and hoard cards and such?

PH

There is merit there, as of right now we have cards to get 4 hp per round, with adept and Tempest making 2 downpours, let Adept get built up and spam some ongoings to protect the ones we really want.  I'm cool either way, but Envisioner's plan would work.

GR

I'm in favor of flipping her now. Most of Tempest's setup is Ongoing, so there's not much point in playing a bunch of things just to get them destroyed. Wraith has a decent setup to move forward with. Expat and Ra have some damage potential and more cards to play. She's still going to be dealing us damage on this side. What exactly are you looking to get into play before we flip her? Will one turn suffice?

I can play and use Cleansing Downpour once the risk of massive ongoing destruction has passed, so that should negate a chunk of her damage.

I'm the Argent Adept, so "everything" is a valid answer…

Will one turn suffice?

I was thinking more like, I dunno, twelve, fifteen, something in there…  Remember, fighters are linear, wizards are quadratic.  With the team fully set up, we're more likely to win in about three turns (the minimum time for Wakey-Dreamy to get out ten Projections, unless she hits Violent Nightmares) than we would be in a longer time of not being set up, taking tons of damage from Dreamy every time and possibly being overwhelmed by another wave like what hit us in Ep. 19.

Ultimately it is up to Ra, whether to finish it or hold on.

I have two ongoing in my deck, if we stall I will throw speed loading and before we flip I would pull my hollow points from the trash.  Hairtrigger would be also fodder if I drew it.  Healing would be at 2hp first round, 4hp each second round on.

For going right now I have assault rifle-hollow points for first round, I'm nowhere towards an unload, but that's still a pretty good bit of power.

It doesn't matter to me whether she flips now or later. It would be better if she flips and there are no ongoings to destroy, but Envisioner is right. He needs his. Plus, all of us being healed near to full would be better for dealing with the Projections when they start coming like flying monkeys again.

Ok. I'm cool with leaving her on this side as long as we get a good supply of Ongoings to sacrifice so we can protect what we really need to keep. Also bear in mind, the environment might make the decision for us at this point.

I'm really not in favor of keeping The Dreamer on this side any longer.  Wraith, Expatriette and Ra are already locked and loaded to go, and we're only one Violent Nightmares away from being back to square one, negating all of that potential healing undone and taking us MUCH longer to win the game.  My only ongoing in hand is Living Conflagration, Wraith has none, and Expatriette has only one.  That means that, best case scenario, it would take us 2 turns just to get down enough ongoings to reach 5 total...which would be destroyed.  Not worth the opportunity cost, in my eyes.

Plus, it's not like AA and Tempest can't start healing us once we're on the other side.  Much as I hate to say it, I think I'm going to flip her.

I discarded Flesh of the Sun God, by the way.

"It's only fair, child.  Your dreams are troubling everyone in the waking world; the nice old lady is simply returning the favor."  (Dreamer at 5 HP.)  With a firm stare fixed on the petulant youth, whose eyes are now open but seem to be seeing into another world, Argent muses grimly about their chances.  The hothead has forced our hand...we could still have taken the time to pacify the child, but now her rage has completely taken hold.  At this point, the only way out is through...hopefully, not through anyone's chest.  Oh well; we are on his home turf, so I suppose it was his call.  Just as long as he's first in line to blunt the next wave of the assault.

Forgot all about the Ape destroying equipment, even though it's already happened once.  Unfortunately about the most "spareable" Equipment on the table is probably Wraith's Utility Belt.  It means she can Razor something for 5, but not also go Stealth.  Poor girl can't play a card, and only gets one power.  She could instead give up the MCT, letting her Wraitharang something for 3 and then go Stealth; that might be what I'd do in her place, since I tend toward overly cautious play, but it's likely that getting the Arachnoid killed faster is more important, since it'll likely just hit her anyway.

In theory, Expat could lose the Assault Rifle after firing it, but I feel that'd be kinda dirty pool because she wouldn't have known Pride was coming up.  If she played it from her hand, that'd be fine (1 damage to Mdjai is hardly a big deal), but Arsenal Access produces unpredictable results (she needs to learn to lock the damn thing when she goes out of town for the weekend, the neighbors keep "borrowing" all her guns and just leaving her two boxes of ammo).

I'd think the MCT is a better choice than the Utility belt right now, as we have a fair amount of damage on the back end with Ra.

Ra: God of the Sun

HP: 14

Hand:  Inferno (x2), Fire Blast, Living Conflagration; Flame Spike

In Play:  Staff of Ra

Trash:  Summon Staff; Flesh of the Sun God

------------------------------------------

Start of Turn:

Play a Card:  Living Conflagration:  I deal Mdjai net 3 fire damage [3]

Use a Power:  Living Conflagrate--I kill the Grotesque Arachnoid with net 2 fire damage [dead].  I draw Flame Spike

Draw a Card:  Flame Barrier

End of Turn:

-------------------------------------------------------

HP: 14

Hand:   Inferno (x2); Fire Blast;  Flame Spike (x2); Flame Barrier

In Play:  Staff of Ra; Living Conflagration

Trash: Summon Staff; Flesh of the Sun God

I told you we should have waited.  By the way, Treacherous Ape and Grotesque Arachnoid are not in the trash, they are under the Dreamer.  8 more and we win.  Well, you win; I probably won't live to see it.  Also Argent went from 7 HP after his turn to 9 with Cleansing Downpour, then 8 from Mdjai, then 5 from the Dreamer, unless I badly miscounted.  (No he is not taking damage for the Dreamer just yet.)

"Rain drops keep falling on my head, but that doesn't mean my friends might'nt soon be turning dead; dying's not for me, because, I'm never gonna fix your brain by complaining, you sick lassieeee, you're not murdering meeiiiieeeiiieeeeiiiieeeeeee...."

The Argent Adept.

HP: 3

Hand:  Vernal Sonata, Instrumental Conjuration

In Play:   Inspiring Supertonic

Trash:  Polyphoric Flare, Drake's Pipes, Cedistic Dissonant, Instrumental Conjuration (discarded to Tooth Fairy).

------------------------------------------

Start of Turn:

Play a Card:  Instrumental Conjuration.  I fetch Musaragni's Harp and draw a second Supertonic.

Use a PowerMusaragni's Harp performs and accompanies Supertonic - Tempest may use a power now, then Argent gains 2 HP.

Draw a Card:  Sarabande of Destruction

End of Turn:

-------------------------------------------------------

HP: 7 if Tempest uses Downpour, 5 if he decides to be a dick and Sacrifices instead.

Hand:   Vernal Sonata, Inspiring Supertonic, Sarabande of Destruction

In Play:  Inspiring Supertonic, Musaragni's Harp

Trash: Polyphoric Flare, Drake's Pipes, Cedistic Dissonant, Instrumental Conjuration x2

Effects:

We really need that Dark Hero to die more than anything, since he's boosting Dreamy's damage along with everything else's.  Tooth Fairy really needs to go too.  The Whipacorn will be a nuisance but I think we can handle it.  It'd be nice if Anubis wasn't around 2 turns from now when I use Cedistic Dissonant (first I need to Vernal Sonata to get it back, and of course if I don't want to wait another turn, I'll be breaking my Harp which I sort of need to function well).  The Tooth Fairy shut down any plan to have me do the Vernal Sonata part of the plan this turn.

I can one-shot Dark Hero with Fire Blast, thanks to Staff of Ra.  It obviously won't be until the end of the turn, but it'll take him out and we can focus on the other targets.

Besides, we're doing fine.  We'll have 5 of 10 Projections under the Dreamer by the end of this turn, if we... play our cards right. ;)

You mean round, not turn.  And the problem with one-shotting Dark Hero is that it means he blunts all the attacks earlier in the round.  I'm not up to figuring out the math, but if Expat and Wraith can kill him, it means you can blast something else for the whole 6.

That's true, but all we have out right now are the Tooth Fairy, a Whipacorn, the Dark Hero, Mdjai, and Anubis.  Anubis is neutered this round by the Whipacorn and Mdjai will die on The Dreamer's turn; I'm not too concerned about them, really.  Potentially, Expatriette could take out the Tooth Fairy in one go with the Tac Shotgun, and if Wraith takes the Whipacorn down a touch, I can finish both it and the Dark Hero on Ra's turn.

Well, this time there was never a moment when we were clearly losing - we'd just started to stabilize, and then bam, both decks decided to be evil to us.  11 damage to everyone without any warning at all - no shame in being defeated by that level of bad luck.  We gave it a good damn try this time, and were well on our way to winning if not for those unfortunate turns of cards.

I assumed that you had stopped running them because you were busy, and I did ep 21, and I don't really mind the work, but if I'm running I can't really play, so I would not mind a bit if you'd do the next.  Maybe we can take turns so as to give each other the chance?  If so, we may want to wrangle the involved players a bit so that they're not getting twice as many games as us...I think we have enough regulars to fill out two sets of games at once, esp. if we're not married to H equalling 5 all the time.

Are these games open to anyone on the forum?

I'm interested, but there are two things that I think my restrict my participation.

1. Not always available to get turns in other than mid- to late- evenings (east coast)

2. Currently only have the Shattered Timelines expansion and core game.  So I wouldn't be able to handle, or necessarily provide proper support, to the heroes from the other expansions.  Plus a lack of knowledge about the villains and environments from the first two expansions as well.

I am such a someone, dpt.  I can assure Oaktree that, while the first couple games can be bewildering if you don't know the characters involved, you eventually reach a point where you're sufficiently familiar with everything.  At first I had to set up the whole game and go through the motions, which restricted me to using heroes I owned, but by now I'm comfortable just going with my recollection of what things do, and occasionally double-checking.

Actually I'm thinking that I should do a slightly tweaked game series…not as major as the Shattered Storyline, but some kind of theme battles with continuity or minor hourserules or something.
