SotM Event #5 - Grudge Match

So people wanted something that doesn't involve playing a ton of games, so here we go. I am starting this now, becuae it might take a week or two to do everything.

First everyone who wants to participate should sign up here. Whether teams are made randomly or chosen is something we can decide upon. Depending on how many people we get, there will be 3 or 4 teams.

Each team will start out with the full roster of 18 heroes. There will be 4 different matches, one against each difficulty of villain. Each match will use 4 heroes, and we will start with the difficulty 1, and move right up. However, each hero can only be used once. You can decide on which heroes you are using after finding out about the villain and environment, but you can't reuse any heroes.

Depending on how many people are interested, will depend on how many games are played for each match. For example, each team might need to play 3 different games of the 4 heroes against that villain. I will give a few days between each match to give poeple enough time to play the game. The matches can be played live, with Google+, or on the forum, it doesn't matter.

Each win will give the team points equal to the difficulty of the villain. The team with the most points after all the games are played is the winner.

If we're choosing teams, G+ people for me please. I don't get to play much with "real" people but I play online a lot.

Same here. I will only be able to play on weekends though, so I don't mind being a sub or alternate if that's possible.

One of the reason why I don't think there should be 1 game for each team member. Maybe some people can't do it or don't have the chracters, but everyone can contribute to which heroes should be in the next game.

Also, if people want to make their own teams, it's fine with me.

I'm interested if people want to do this on G+. A forum game might work, too, but that would take more than a week or two.

I am cautiously in. Forums would be nice, but are rather slow...

Honestly, anything works. Want one game a week? Fine. Want to sivide up into groups of 2 or 3 people fine. I am gladly run anything.

Ok, how about this. Evweyone pick there own team. I will give a week in between each game, so that if people want to play-by-forum they can. I will announce the first game for this weekend, and it will be against a difficulty 1 villain.

I'm in, but I've got my own private team of friends that will join me in playing these matches.

What settings are the villains? Do people who play Advanced get more points? Also, if you lose to a villain, can you retry that game with a different set of heroes?

I didn’t plan on it being on advanced. One reason was that it is a lot harder to control the difficulty.

There are 4 games of 4 heroes. There isn’t rwally any room for retries. I guess I am trusting everyone to be honest and only play 1 game.

Now whether or not we limit the environments is interesting. Right not I plan on doing random, but if people really don’t want something in there that’s ok.

One Idea was that it will be random, but once one ia chosen, I won’t choose another from that set.

I am going to post the first game soon, but I won't give an official end time. I want people to have enough time to make a team and play the game. I am hoping the next game will be posted by next weekend, but we will see.

I also wanted to go over a couple of rules:

In each game, you will choose 4 heroes to play. You cannot reuse any of those heroes.

You CANNOT use any promo heroes, and no promo villains will be used.

You CAN make your team after finding out about the villain and environment.

While the environment will be random, You will not see two environments from the same expansion. For this game, the mini-expansions are considered one expansion.

The first game will be against a level 1 villain, the next a level 2, etc. 

I will be using the official difficulties. This means that Gloomweaver is a 3 (if many people want to move him, we can), and Kismet is a 2. I asked Christopher about this. The printed version is correct, and the online version the Sentinels Sidekick need to be changed.

You can only play the game once. If you win, you recieve points equal to the difficulty of the villain.

No advance mode.

The first game will either be against Baron Blade or Omnitron in any environment.

My only advice is to plan ahead. Think about what heroes you really need against those level 4 villains.

I'm happy to team up with one or more people - would probably prefer to run in the BGG PBF style, just because I can't reliably hit G+ and don't own all the expansions myself. (I've got Core + Unity for heroes.)

I get the feeling that whoever is on team G+ will be based on who happens to be online at the time. So far team G+ looks like me and Silverleaf since we play together a lot. There's no reason for you not to be on the team, and I'm pretty sure we'll probably end up with a wild Ronway as well. There's also a chance that if there are too many players, team G+ will have to split itself up a bit.

I have amde some drastic changes to the sing-up sheet. Everything should be self-explanatory. Once you got a team, you can start to feel yours out. PLease start by picking a team name. I don;t mind if you change the colors to make your slot unquie, but please don't change any of the sizes so that it is easy to read.

Is there a limit to how many people can be on a team?

No, but I set it to 4 because they are 4 hero games. Just add a line for more players.

My guess, is us super awesome G+ folks, will call our team Team G+. While the players will be G+ User! And I suppose the Friday night game time will be the one we use this.

Whoops, miswrote that. I swear on my honor as a finely dressed man that we did not use Eternal Haka. Jessica is so accustom to playing as him that she put that in there. I'll yell at her for this.

It's my opinion that the PBF game will wrap up in the next day or two, such that you could post round 2 tomorrow or Wednesday if you wanted to get it going.

I was going to wait until Wednesday, just in case there was going to be a gamr at Arsenal.

I trust you. That happens sometimes. I will just have to find some other way to discredit your team.

The next game is against Ambuscade in the Final Wasteland.

G+ chalk up another win, 3 points total for us.

Amuscade went down like a chump, taking only 5 rounds to beat. Infrared Eyepiece helped to avoid his Cloaking Device and Unity did not lose a single bot.

Bunker and Chrono-Ranger delivered a steady damage output, taking out his devices and (ultimately) the hunter himself.

The Environment was pretty much a non-factor

A vote is needed from all teams in this game: Should I keep Gloomy in or out as one of the villains of the third game?

Even though it would be awesome for him to be in, because it is practically an auto win for everyone, but I think it would probably be best to leave him out for that same reason.

Aye, I vote out.

What happens if all the teams win every game?  Do we go into a sudden death pvp with the remaining heroes?  Do we start all over again, or do we all et participation ribbons and go on our way?

Then we're all awesome.

Of course I will always be slightly more awesome!

I've only played Gloomy once, so I'm not in a good position to vote and will defer to the plurality on this one.

As for the question of what to do if all teams win, I propose that we then work backward through the difficulties in sudden death, with teams that lose being eliminated until only one remains.

Gloomy would be a bit of a disappointment as the level 3 villain, so I vote no.

I vote yes purely because my vote will make no difference (if it does I vote no)

I vote yes, in the hope that my vote makes Matchstickman's vote make a difference.

But gloomy would be a let down.

I love Gloomy, but both Omnitron and Ambuscade have been really easy fights. I know we're not voting for villains, but I'm going to go ahead and vote for Dawn.

The next battle will be against Grand Warlord Voss in the Tomb of Anubis.

The G+ players had another tough fight on their hands, but once again the power of the all knowing Ronway was with us.

I believe 3 Lightspeed Barrages were used to finish off Voss but it was late and we played so many games that night that I can't remember which game was which anymore.

We will make the heroes fight in some sort of deathmatch for the privilege of attempting the final challenge (and our love).

Are there any plane for a follow up to this contest?  I would love another go, but this time Advanced and 3-hero teams, that would make every hero be used.

Just add a another lvl 3 and 4 villain to make it 6 matches.  That would be a really harsh run through.

Team Play By Forum won, thanks to an opening hand Ultimate Target, and a short lived shielding winds, but mostly Ultimate Target.

Ball Lightning was pretty fortuitous, too. The game lasted 3 rounds.

Victory for team G+ Ronway! Not too shabby of a game, didn't even have to rely on Fanatic drawing Wrathful Retribution to win.

Nobody likes the Scholar?

He's a bit obnoxious with that whole "The ley lines tell me everything" crap, and while he can turn into water he can't seem to take a bath or wash that darned robe.  Yeah, nobody likes him, and nobody wants to go hang out in his trailer either, but he keeps asking.

I'd totally hang out with the Scholar. That'd be awesome. I'd insist he did the deodorant thing though, or at least have a quick dip. 

Team PBF was saving him in case The Matriarch came out.

So, do we want a tie-breaker, or start a new event and have two winners?

We have two heroes left, I don't know how we would do a tie breaker.

For now, we should probably end the event in a tie. For the future, if we have another event like this, it might be good to consider things such as fight duration or Hero final HP as a means to break a tie.

I actually did consider son of those, but decided not to go with them. If you go by rounds, characters with a long setup get hit hard. If you go by up, her or that can heal are huge, and you might delay the game just to heal.

For a tie-breaker. I was thinking of a final game where both teams have the Sam heroes. i was thinking the F5 vs advanced Dawn in Megalopolis.

That could work. You might want to have another tie breaker in mind just in case both teams manage to win again.

As long as both teams agree beforehand, I don’t mind what it is.

Both teams do a live Google plus striptease. Best team wins.

Team Google + also refuses to compromise their founding principles. We shall have to do both at the same time. You will all also have to post pictures of yourselves so that we know who we should be imagining taking their clothes off. Pictures of fictional characters or other people is only allowed if it's hilarious and clever.

If Team Fancy is ever involved with a tiebreaker striptease, than they can just keep putting stuff on over their tuxedos.

The little pervert in me is quite intrigued.  Also, the little pervert in me finds phrases like "the little pervert in me" to be quite funny.

Niel was the only one to appear in all 4.

I heart him!  He's one of my favorite characters mechanically, and perhaps my single favorite thematically, just for how hard he turns the default superhero shtick on its head.
