If we can get CosmiTron to flip this turn, I'd prefer doing the Interpolation Beam.  If he doesn't flip, the drone.

I don't think it's going to be hard to deal 4 more damage, considering Elbow Smash, Flak Cannon and Fleet of Foot/Sonic Vortex.  Only thing we'd have to worry about is having Haka deal damage this turn, so that Bunker can get around the Adaptive Plating Subroutine.

Sound good to everyone?

Question. Omnitron's card lists him as both Villain and Device. Cosmic Omnitron's card (as viewed on BGG) only lists him as a Villain.

If this is the case, then he shouldn't be getting damage reduction, right? I'm going to play this turn assuming that he gets no damage reduction. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Envisioner, you really don't have to re-create the whole game:  just pull Bunker's deck and filter the cards based on what phantaskippy had earlier.

I really do; it's part of my process.  And for the record, I'm pretty certain you missed a damage point on Omnitron - PoFW's Last Stand deals 2 damage, -1 for Omnitron Advanced, +1 for the explosives wagon.  So he should be at 77, and his Components are destroyed (2 damage from Wraith, 2 from Expat, 3 from Haka).

That was some bump on the head, Bunker thinks as he shakes himself inside the suit and boots it up out of Recharge Mode, feeling like an entirely different person.  No telling what could be hiding in that Stout Barrel, and the damn bug-bot fried my flak cannon's control circuit, so no target practice for me.  Guess I'll just have to make do with some analog hardware.

According to who?  Certainly not this

(Also, Greywind, don't you still have Research Grant in play?  And your hand should contain Pushing the Limits and a second Hypersonic Assault.  Looks like you forgot to update your "before" section.  More pertinently, Cosmotron has damage reduction, so only 1 damage gets thru to him.)

So unless there's also errata on Hypersonic Assault that I don't know about, Omnitron is now at 77 HP.  And neither he nor the Explosives Wagon (nor for that matter the Stout Barrel, which has entirely ceased being stout) can deal damage until the next Tachyturn.

I guess the Interpolation Beam didn't die until Hypersonic Assault, so Bunker took 2 damage drawing a card and is at 18.

(PS, Greywind, your End of Turn hand is also wrong, it should be Hypersonic, Nimble, and Accelerated Assaults and a Blinding Speed.)

It seems kind of a dangerous precedent to include half the effects on the board which are modifying damage, but leave the person who controls the target to keep track of the other half.  I figure that on one's own turn, one should either calculate all the modifiers or only the base damage, but not try to split the difference.

Also, Tachyon was at 18 HP on her last turn, and was shot for 6 by a Drone, so she should be at 12; Meerkat's Omnitron post is showing her at 14.

Warlock, the Explosives Wagon is gone, so unless I'm missing something Wraith deals 5 damage with Razor Ordnance and 1 with Last Stand, leaving COT with 71.

Unless things radically change during Expat and Haka's turns, my plan is to plunk down Upgrade Mode and then External Combustion.  I could put down Ammo Drop instead if Tachyon will be able to kill one or both Drones.

Do you mean Drone 2, which was undamaged and thus would indeed be at (3) afterward, or Drone 1, which Wraith bonked with Last Stand and left at (4), which would be (2) after your RPG?  (So deadly, those roleplaying games!)

Haka then went on to bash a drone with his Taiaha, leaving it at 2.  Either there's a source of damage prevention somewhere which I haven't noticed, or the two 5-HP drones should have taken 6 damage between them.  If we're assuming both are still alive as of my turn, they should have either 2 HP each, or 3 and 1 in some order.

You guys could really profit from the very attention to detail which compels me to keep the entire game set up.  No less than 3 goofs (which did not end up having a net effect, but could have under other circumstances) since my last post:

1.  Omnitron does not flip this turn, but Meerkat's post still says "Start of turn: Flip".

2.  When Wraith threw knives, both drones were reduced to 1 HP, as they both start at the same 4.

3.  Sedative Flechettes destroyed all Ongoings, including Ammo Drop, so no Bunker does not get to draw a card when Haka kills a Drone.

Also, in the vein of tactics, I really wish that Haka had Ground Pounded this turn, as Omnitron is about to regain the ability to deal damage.  And if he wasn't going to Ground Pound, then I wish he'd had the second Taiaha bonk hit Tyler Hayes instead of the Drone, as it was 3 damage being wasted on a 1-HP target after I had already said I had External Combustion in hand.

Y'all are definitely not playing to perfection.  I get not wanting to delay the game by discussing strategies before posting your action, but we're in danger of a loss because we didn't coordinate our activities for maximum effectiveness.

I will say that the BGG PBF style, with summaries posted after every turn, makes it much easier to keep track of what's going on. Has that ever been tried here? It certainly slows the game down a bit, but I've found it to be pretty valuable.

When we started this we had a google doc that had the current game state. After each players turn, they just updated the numbers, and highlighted the next players turn. It was extremely easy. No need every to scroll looking for the information, just keep the tab open, and it will be updated for your turn.

Not to derail this thread, but seriously, man, work on your diplomacy skills.  We're each playing our hero and there are multiple options.  If you want to run a solo game then run it.  Statements like "You guys could really profit from the very attention to detail which compels me to keep the entire game set up" and " Y'all are definitely not playing to perfection" don't endear others (certainly me) to want to continue playing with you.

The game is co-op; we're supposed to be doing what's best for the team, because otherwise we all lose.  I'll cop to being a bit on the blunt side, and you did the right thing by calling me on it, but it's as you said - diplomacy is a skill and I need to work on it.  If I knew how to do better I already would have.  Suggestions are welcome.

PL

Suggestions:

1) Don't complain about other people's plays--it's their choice, not yours.  Just because it's not the play you would have made doesn't make it any less valid or desirable.  Yeah, we're gonna take some damage this round--that's fine.  We're not going to die and we're not going to lose the game because of that.  And, even if we do?  No big loss.  It's a game.  Shuffle the cards, choose a new villain, and we play again.  No big whoop.

2) Handle your own Hero and go from there.  This is why I said, earlier, to not try to recreate the whole game on your own.  It's a ton to manage in person, much less typed into forum posts.

3) Trying to control the entire game defeats the purpose of playing with others.  Conferring over strategy is one thing; telling people what they should do with their turn is obnoxious.  Case in point, there was no talk of using External Combustion this round (last round, yes--and it turned out that it wasn't needed, as Expat and Haka took care of business), so several people focused on drones.  Don't get upset at other players for not reading your mind about your own play.

4) It's a superhero card game being played online:  it's not freaking brain surgery and it's not a rocket launch.  Ultra-precision is not necessary here.  Telling someone "hey, you counted your damage wrong" is fine, but don't be condescending or rude about it.  Math errors happen.  Deal with it and move on.

5) Making yourself out to sound like an "expert" in a game that, by your own admission, you've only played a limited number of times (and rarely with others) is beyond egotistical.  There are people on this board who have been playing this game since before the original edition was released--don't pretend to act like you know the game better than them.  That's the attitude you're conveying and it rubs people the wrong way--(see also: the Argent Adept discussion elsewhere on the board, where you admit to not understanding or liking AA, then want to write an instructional guide on how he works).

True, but this game is a team effort, so some collaboration should be occurring.  Tachyon is close to dead, and none of us is looking to sprightly; I am firmly of the opinion that we needed that Ground Pound.  Plus it was kind of a waste of the extremely powerful, game-ending Haka of Battle to add just 1 damage on a villain who's still above half (if we desperately needed to finish off a Drone or something, that'd be different of course).  I didn't mean to come across as telling anyone what they have to do, but rather what they should do, for the sake of the group.  Though I confess that from my perspective, the distinction between "you have no choice but to do this" and "you have a choice, but one choice is obviously right and the other is obviously wrong, so we're trusting you to do what we're all counting on you to decide to" is less than dramatic; I really don't get why so many people make such a big deal about it, but I suspect the answer is related to emotions, which I don't understand very well (my own least of all).

Yeah, we're gonna take some damage this round–that's fine.  We're not going to die and we're not going to lose the game because of that.

Dropship Omnitron adds +1 to all damage, and could potentially put out six more drones this turn and then fire a Flechettes (I counted, not that I really had to, being extremely familiar with Omnitron's deck in particular).  Yes, we very easily could lose heroes or even the game because of a one-turn lapse in our protection, particularly in a violent environment like Silver Gulch, with the most damaging of its cards already in play.

And, even if we do?  No big loss.  It's a game.  Shuffle the cards, choose a new villain, and we play again.  No big whoop.

This would be the point we disagree on.  While I don't want victory to be a foregone conclusion, I do think it's of critical importance to try for it within the context of a coop game, or else the experience becomes gratuitous and meaningless.  I don't see any point in playing at all if you're not going to take it seriously, at least not over the Internet (in person might be a more relaxed atmosphere, though I would probably still look askance at my fellow players if they didn't seem to care whether they got their own character killed, let alone mine).  Gaming is Serious Business in my world; it's my passion, it's my vocation, it's something I dedicate myself to with an almost psychotic intensity, and I'm sorry if that means a few people get rubbed the wrong way.

2) Handle your own Hero and go from there.  This is why I said, earlier, to not try to recreate the whole game on your own.

I can't possibly visualize the game state without having the components to look at.  I know there are people who can play chess in their head just by calling out moves, but my brain doesn't have such potent software.  I need scratch paper to do math, and I need a table to set up a game upon.  Once I can see the entire picture, that's when my brain starts spotting the patterns and connections, and I become aware of every tiniest detail.  (As an aside, this is also what makes me good at my job.  When I have one.)

Case in point, there was no talk of using External Combustion this round, so several people focused on drones.

I did not have an opportunity to ask whether you wanted me to play XC, nor to mention that I was hoping Haka would Ground-Pound…you all posted while I was asleep, or maybe it was while I was out buying groceries.  The key to a coop game is for the players to coordinate their activities, and when we're not all in a room able to talk to each other, that becomes more difficult.  I didn't really see you guys focusing on drones to any great extent (you hit them with multi-target attacks, and the only other places those could have gone was to Tyler Hayes, which might have been wiser but not so much so as to be obvious), but if you were counting on me to play XC this round, all you had to do was ask.  Since you got rid of the dangerous drone, there was no longer any real need, so I chose to set up for next turn, but if anyone had asked me to do otherwise, I would have at least considered their input.

Telling someone "hey, you counted your damage wrong" is fine, but don't be condescending or rude about it.

Again, I do apologize that the distinction between rude and non-rude is largely invisible to me.  I shall endeavor to tread with greater caution.  My mind is a lot like Bunker's armor - massive and powerful, capable of crushing fragile objects that get in the way.  I did not mean to bruise any egos, and I am regretful that I am not better at managing my responsibility to avoid this.

Making yourself out to sound like an "expert" in a game that, by your own admission, you've only played a limited number of times (and rarely with others) is beyond egotistical.

I never said I was an expert…I only said that I play perfectly (which is true or very nearly so, within the context of having a day or so to analyze the board between turns; I screw up quite frequently in my solitaire games, because I have too much work to doo in too much of a hurry).  Like the data entry work I do with spectacularly high accuracy, this does not require knowledge, only an intense focus on fine details, and that state comes quite naturally to me.  It makes me extremely well qualified to keep track of all the fine details that others think are too much for anyone to have to manage.  It's not necessarily true that my tactics are perfect or anything, only that I notice things that others may have missed, and wish to point them out, so that everyone fully understands the truth which only I seem able to perceive.

(see also: the Argent Adept discussion elsewhere on the board, where you admit to not understanding or liking AA, then want to write an instructional guide on how he works).

One, my saying I didn't like or understand him was weeks before my saying I wanted to write a guide about him…I played him several times in the interim and began to comprehend how he functions.  And two, part of the point of my wanting to write a guide (which I have in fact started doing) was to help me understand him better, and I'm not the first person on these boards to use that logic.  Sometimes you have to go through the steps of a process in order to understand where it leads.

You asked for suggestions, I provided them.
For the record, labeling yourself as a borderline-psychotic who looks at gaming as an obsession is definitely taking this way too seriously.
Dude, its a game. We play to win, yeah, but not at the expense of fun. And the way you act and dialogue with others? Its un-fun to play with you.

Let’s please get back to the game.

What's keeping Cosmo from doing damage?

I can take the damage for Wraith, since I have more chance of being able to pull a Heavy Plating or Maintenance Unit. Granted it could be an issue with External Combustion, but I'm probably not playing that this round.  But I'd really appreciate it if Haka would play those Ground Pounds on the next two turns.

Heh, I wouldn't have said anything like that…we can all have a moment where our brain takes a nap, no worries…just fix it and move on, which you appear to have done.  'Sall good.  :sunglasses:

> Temporal Event brings out Lost In The Past, discards Temporal Event and Sustain The Portal.

Actually I'm pretty sure it brings out Sustain the Portal instead, leaving Lost in the Past still at a random location within the deck, since Sustain the Portal is a Time Portal card.  Sustain the Portal will then deal 2 damage to everything, including the 1-HP Repair Drone, so Omnitron won't get repaired this round.

Okay, I have to go out for the evening pretty soon here, and I'm pretty sure nothing Expat or Haka can do will invalidate my plans (I've already spoken with grysqrl about the Ground Pound, and he agrees that is the thing to do), so I'm posting my turn a little out of order.  I apologize if this is confusing; maybe grysqrl could quote this post after his own to make it more clear that it's Tachyon's turn, if you feel that's necessary.  If this is done, I can later delete this redundant post.

At least this time we know Ground Pound can't be destroyed in the middle of Omnitron's turn (no more Flechettes).  So we have one full round of not having to worry about damage before we're completely screwed.

The Indestructible Bunker

HP:  7

-------------------------

Start of Turn:  Put Ammo Drop, Decommissioned Hardware, and Maintenance Unit beneath Omni-Cannon.

Play a Card:  External Combustion.  2 damage to Bunker (5), 3 damage each to Omnitron (20), Electro-Pulse Explosive (1), Repair Drone (1), S-83 Assault Drone (1).

Use a Power:  Omni-Cannon; 12 damage to Omnitron (8).

Draw a Card:  Upgrade Mode

End of Turn:

-------------------------

HP:  5

Hand:  External Combustion, Turret Mode, Grenade Launcher, Gatling Gun, Maintenance Unit, Heavy Plating, Upgrade Mode

In Play:  Omni-Cannon

Trash:  Flak Cannon, Recharge Mode, Adhesive Foam Grenade, Ammo Drop, Upgrade Mode, Auxiliary Power Source, External Combustion, Turret Mode, Adhesive Foam Grenade, External Combustion, Ammo Drop, Decommissioned Hardware, Maintenance Unit

Effects:

That was awesome, everybody.  I've never fired an Omni-Cannon for more than 6 damage before; it's always too much of a risk against opponents I don't know like the back of my hand, but knowing Omnitron was out of TechSings made it worth investing in, and it paid off.  (Still sad I couldn't get out a Turret Mode and fire a Flak Cannon too, for 17 total damage.)  Tachyon can deal the lethal blow with Lightspeed Barrage no problem (there's a certain justice in her getting the final blow, since she came closest to death), so we don't need to worry about killing the Repair Drone, though I'm still a little sad I couldn't arrange to finish it off.  Well, thanks for letting me play, and sorry I was a bit of a dick about it at first.
