I'm hoping that I can find at least one person on this forum who'd be up for playing a real-time PBP game of Sentinels with me, as I've been doing an unhealthy amount of solitaire in order to get my fix.  I say "real time" because I have only about a week before I'll be starting a new work gig, so the idea of a long, slow correspondence game where each player posts once or twice a day doesn't work for me; instead, I'd need someone to schedule a block of time to be online, and we'd exchange posts while maintaining the game across our respective copies of the game.

I'll be available from roughly 9AM to 9PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and probably Saturday, with part of that time on Monday (I'll be out shopping in the morning and perhaps early afternoon) to devote to scheduling, and about half a day each on Thursday (the afternoon to evening) and Friday (the morning to afternoon).  I do not own Rook City or Infernal Relics, but I have all the mini-expansions as well as Shattered Timelines; please select 1 or more heroes and a Villain that are available to me, so I can set the game up as we play for ease of tracking.  We will then take turns posting every 5 to 20 minutes, depending on flow (a longer silence, without some explanation, would suggest a person has ragequit and their position should be taken over).  I would love to have as many as five other players (if we wanted to do Freedom Six vs. Iron Legacy, as I haven't tried that game), but as I said before, i only need a minimum of 1, and that person may play only one hero if they prefer...I'd rather they take two heroes, since I'll be handling the Villain and Environment, but since I've done 4- and once even 5-player solitaire games, I can take the mandatory second hero if the other player isn't comfortable doing so.

So, anyone up for this?

Why don't you set up a random game and we can pick from there?

I don't do random, though if you don't care what hero you play, I can assign you one.  I would rather not have anyone play Unity, who has dominated three of my last four games, or Tachyon, who I play quite frequently and thus am overexposed to.  I can be overruled on those preferences if you feel strongly about it, but if it's up to me, I'll probably hand out characters that I've personally become bored with but think are worth seeing more of, such as Bunker and Tempest.

Thinking about it, I'll want the villain to be either Kismet or the Dreamer, and the environment should probably be the Final Wasteland, unless you'd advise against that strongly in which case I could use The Block.  I'll probably play Chrono-Ranger.

You're planning on running the villain, the environment, and a hero?  That's a bit much, don't you think?

As I said, I've played solitaire games with up to FIVE heroes and the villain and environment.  (Granted I usually screw up my math at some point, but this time I'll have extra pairs of eyes to help with that.)  This'll be a breeze for me.

Oh, just noticed that you had said EST.  I'm in Central, so if you want to start at noon, that'll be 11 my time right?

Yes, I'm in EST.

And I don't doubt that you can do it at home--I play "solitaire" myself.  It's just that having to type it all up adds a whole extra layer of complexity.  If you're up for it, though, that's fine.

Chalk me up for Bunker and Fanatic.

If we're playing on the forum, and I assume we'll be using standard forum post-up, why limit the hero options? Is it just that you want to see what cards come up? I mean actually be able to pull the cards up and look at them? I'm pretty sure that PW or I could list relevant text of a card you don't have. As for Unity, I've never used her. Don't think anyone in my group has.

Assuming you mean the format used in the "Episode" games…well, I suppose I can, although I find it a little overcomplected myself.  Still, it's my first time, so I suppose I should stick to the tried and true.

why limit the hero options? Is it just that you want to see what cards come up? I mean actually be able to pull the cards up and look at them?

Precisely.  I tried to visualize the La Capitan game based solely on text, and I just couldn't do it.  I've played Mr. Fixer, but I don't have his cards memorized, and even where the context made it clear what individual cards were doing, I couldn't make sense of the big picture.

Which hero do you want, Greywind?  Warlock is running two it seems; I leave it up to you whether to do the same.

Okay that took less time than I thought.  I've decided that since you guys didn't express a preference, we'll go with Kismet just because Dreamer is supposed to be harder.  Environment is definitely the Final Wasteland.  Still waiting for Greywind to pick a hero.

One thing I'm not clear on with these things...how does player order work?

PL

Player order is typically determined by the randomized selection posted in the 1st post.  Heroes are played in the order listed.

Obviously, since we're not doing that for this, I'll gladly go last:  Bunker then Fanatic.

People post their hands online so that players can work together and give suggestions on how to proceed if things get rough.

Actually, there's a large contingent here that play--even face-to-face--with open hands, for exactly that reason.

Alright, I think we've waited long enough, we'll call it a 3-hero game.  Let me know if I'm doing this right.

Kismet

HP:  70

In Play:  The Talisman: Enchanted Heirloom [7]

Trash:  None

-------------------------------------------------

Start of Turn:  Flip if hero has Talisman, otherwise deal 1 psychic damage to each hero target.  (Chrono-Ranger and Bunker at 27, Fanatic at 29.)

Play a Card:  Hapless Strike.  Fanatic deals 2 energy damage to Bunker (or Chrono-Ranger, but I think it's only fair that your characters should fight among themselves for the position of your favorite). [25]

End of Turn:  Reveal and play Fortune's Smile.  Each hero takes 1 more psychic damage (CR at 26, Bunker at 24, Fanatic at 28).  Play another villain card:  Inconceivable Obstruction enters play (and I crack up).

-------------------------------------------------

HP:  70

In Play:  Inconceivable Obstruction

In Trash:  Hapless Strike, Fortune's Smile.

Additional Effects:

ST:  Flip if hero has Talisman, otherwise deal 1 psychic damage to each hero target. (Kismet)

Static Effects:

    Talisman is indestructible. (Talisman)

When a hero target deals 4+ damage to a different hero target, destroy a Jinx. (Kismet)

Kismet deals +0 damage for the 0 Jinxes in play.  (Talisman)

First time each turn Kismet would be damaged, discard top Environment card; if it's a target, it goes into play and takes the damage instead.  (Inconceivable Obstruction)

ET:  Put top card of villain deck into play if Lucky, else reshuffle it. (Kismet)

(Next round, I'd recommend using that Displaced Armory to get a Temporal Grenade out--with the number of Villain Targets in the Final Wasteland deck, we'll never deal any damage to Kismet with the Inconceivable Obstruction out.)

In Play:

Trash: n/a

Start of hero turn:

Why didn't you kill the Skunk Ape with Absolution?  Oh well, moving right along.  Also the Talisman had 2 HP at the end of Fanatic's turn, not 4 - Bunker shot a grenade at it.

The Final Wasteland

In Play:  Horrid Skunk Ape [3]

Trash:  None

-------------------------------------------------

Start of Turn:  None

Play a Card:  New Jersey Devil [4]

End of Turn:  Horrid Skunk ape deals 1 to Kismet, redirected to a sudden Abominable Snowman [now 8], 1 to the Talisman [1], 1 to Fanatic [28], 1 to Bunker [23], 1 to Ranger [25], 1 to Jersey Devil [3], and I think another 1 to the Snowman [now 7].  Jersey Devil deals 2 damage to Skunk Ape and kills the Talisman, which flips and goes to Fanatic [Talisman now at 7].

Use a power: Temporal Grenade.  Deal 1 damage each to Kismet and two Snowmen.  Destroy Lady Luck, triggering Lady Luck; top card is Fortune's Smile, so Lady Luck is destroyed, but Kismet regains 3 HP [70], deals 1 damage to each hero [CR: 24, Bunker: 22, Fanatic: 25], and plays another card.  Imminent Destruction destroys all four Environment cards and deals 5 damage to each Hero [CR: 19, Bunker: 17, Fanatic: 20].  (Sorry, if I'd known something like that could happen, I'd have shot the monsters instead of Kismet.)

So that it'll flip back to Kismet and Fanatic won't take a bunch of burst damage.

Generally speaking, the easiest ways to minimize Kismet's damage have been to either 1) keep her on her original side the whole game or, if you can manage it, 2) make her flip each round.  The second way amounts to less damage taken overall, but it's generally harder to do.  In this case, since we have no other targets, it's worth doing.

And, yes–killing it was my objective.

I'm very sad that Bunker's Ammo Drop doesn't work when he's clearing out the Final Wasteland.  Speaking of which, if you're waiting for us to have multiple Environment targets in play, should we play extra Environment cards to keep Con's Bunker?  This would potentially produce a Skunk Ape that offsets the healing, but it might be worth it.

I would say "no" because the text on the card would occur before the text on No Executions.  As such, the Talisman would get placed in the villain play area or in front of a hero beforehand.

Can I get an answer on the Shaky Arm/Karmic Disjunction confusion.  That makes a difference this round, as that 1 extra damage from Bunker would cause the Talisman to flip on Fanatic's turn.

And, no–I'd rather not keep the Con's Bunker around.  Nearly every card in that deck is a fairly hard-hitting target, so I'd just as soon minimize our pain from the Environment deck.

I have Kismet at 66 HP after your last stab, not 65.  Also you forgot the Chastise in your trash.

You have one Shaky Arm on you.  (If Karmic Disjunction had resolved, Bunker would have gotten a Shaky Arm, other heroes would have had a Weak Heart and Two Left Feet, and Con's Bunker would have exploded for 2 damage to each of us.)

Kismet

HP:  66

In Play:  The Talisman: Stolen Charm [1]

Trash:  Hapless Strike, Fortune's Smile, Lady Luck, Fortune's Smile, Imminent Destruction, Inconceivable Obstruction

Start of Turn:  Kismet deals each hero 2 psychic damage.

Play a Card:  Glass Jaw.  CR will take that since he doesn't damage himself and Fanatic does - nevermind, I miscalculated his HP as being 20.  Too bad.  Maybe we should let the Death Worm take a piece out of her anyway, but it's less obviously correct now.

End of Turn:  Reveal Scattered Mind and reshuffle it into the deck.

Wait--does Chrono-Ranger have the Glass Jaw or does Fanatic?  During the Villain turn, you gave it to Fanatic, but then in C-R's turn you have it on his sheet.

If Fanatic has it, then the 8 damage from the Death Worm is correct.

If C-R has it, then Fanatic would only take 6.

The Jinx is on Fanatic; I fixed the error in my last CR post.  (I also apparently forgot to remove The Masadah from his hand for at least one turn.  Too many details to keep track of in these things!)

Chrono-Ranger

HP: 15

Hand: Bounty Board, Bounty Board, Compounded Bow, Terrible Tech-Strike, Temporal Grenade, Eye On The Prize, Jim's Hat.

In Play:  A Scattered Mind (Kismet) targeting him.

Trash: Eye On The Prize, Displaced Armory, Temporal Grenade, Eye on the Prize, Just Doin' My Job, The Masadah, No Executions, Just Doin' My Job.

Additional effects:

------------------

Start of hero turn:

Play a card: Play Jim's Hat, then Temporal Grenade.

Use a power: Throw Temporal Grenade.  Deal 2 damage to Rat Beast, discarding Bounty Board.  Deal 1 damage to Kismet, discarding other Bounty Board.  Destroy an Ongoing card - if I destroy Bunker's Shaky Arm, will you have Fanatic destroy the Scattered Mind on CR?  Having to discard every time he deals damage, when almost every card in his deck deals 1 damage and he plays a lot of extra cards, is utterly destroying me.  If you cannot agree to this trade, the Temporal Grenade will have to destroy Scattered Mind instead of Shaky Arm.

Draw cards: Ranger's Mark.

End of hero turn:

-------------------

HP: 15

Hand:  Compounded Bow, Terrible Tech-Strike, Eye on the Prize, Ranger's Mark.

In Play: Jim's Hat, and possibly a Scattered Mind (Kismet) targeting him.

Trash:  Eye On The Prize, Displaced Armory, Temporal Grenade, Eye on the Prize, Just Doin' My Job, The Masadah, No Executions, Just Doin' My Job, Bounty Board, Bounty Board, Temporal Grenade.

Additional effects: None.

That's what I'm doing if you don't agree to the trade.  IMO, it would be better for Jim to remove the Shaky Arm so that Bunker would deal full damage on his turn; Bunker could then drop out of Recharge Mode (there's not much point in skipping your turn to draw an extra card if you then have to discard a card for only 1 damage at the end of your turn), fire one of his other weapons (or both of them with Turret Mode), and we could make some huge progress on getting Kismet actually killed eventually.  But I would need your word that Fanatic will then play Consecrated Ground to remove the Shattered Mind.

My plan was to stay in Recharge Mode for one more round, then to drop into Turret Mode afterwards.  I wanted to collect at least one more card, so that I can fuel the Gatling Gun for a few rounds longer.

It'd mean I'd get one net turn of lessened damage, but it'd free Fanatic up to play Holy Nova this turn and give us some HP back.

But, I guess I can hold off on the Holy Nova--it'll have more impact when we have more targets in play anyway.  Go ahead and destroy Bunker's Shaky Arm; Fanatic will take care of the Shattered Mind.

Okay, I believe I got it all straightened out now.  The strikethrough line in Kismet's most recent post is a comment from a point in the sequence where I thought the Chupacabra had destroyed the Talisman; at one point I had it with 5 damage counters on it, but I was unable to reconstruct why I thought that was the case (I think I had intended to include it as a third target for the Temporal Grenade, which would have had it at 6 HP before it was Gatling Gunned, then 4, then 3 after Consecrated Ground, and then I probably misread the Chupacabra as dealing 3 melee damage by default, rather than just to Fanatic with her Glass Jaw).  In any event, the timeline is hopefully correct now (gotta love a game where even the rules make you feel like you're Uatu the Watcher or whoever).

Okay, finally proceeding to CR's turn.  Sorry about all that.

Fanatic, at 5 hp, throws down Wrathful Retribution, discarding Absolution (x2) and Holy Nova.

That deals 26 net radiant damage to Kismet.  Game, set, match.

Technically, the Talisman was at 2 HP, so Bunker destroyed it (aka stole it...with a grenade).  But yeah, we curbstomped her.  You shoulda let me keep having her defend with sharks, so it'd be more sporting.  :P

Good game.  handshake

PS:  There are indeed only 2 Temporal Grenades in CR's deck.  But if you'd really wanted the Glass Jaw gone, you could have had Bunker shoot CR for 4 with the Grenade (3 would still have been enough to steal the Talisman, and you could have used its power second since the Flak Cannon was overkill).  That way, the text of Kismet: Charmed Scoundrel would have destroyed one Jinx, and you'd have gotten to amuse yourself by looking at a deck.

Villain reduced to -20 in one round...that's definitely a personal record in my experience.

Oh, how do we decide which player reports the game on the Statistics Thread?

Displaced Armory can pull Grenades from the trash as well as the deck, so had the game gone longer, that would have been a viable route.  But, with just that round remaining, it wasn't a huge deal.

Looking through Fanatic's deck, though--I'd have been waiting a while for an Aegis of Resurrection.  The first one was 6 cards down, past all three Final Dives!

Go ahead and report the game if you like, since you ran the Villain stuff.

Sorry. I came down with a slight case of "reality", although I've been assured that it isn't contagious.

I know well the symptoms of that disease.  I'll let you know the next time I'm in the market for a forum game (it'll be a while, the experience was interesting but exhausting).
