Gloomweaver in Insula Primalis, House ruled Gloomy.

Heroes in order:

Greatest Legacy-bluehairedmeerkat

Tachyon - grim88

Omnitron-X - grysqrl

Redeemer Fanatic - cmschex

Argent Adept - dpt

How this alternate Gloomy works:  The first side is investigation, you are fighting the Cult that is trying to revive Gloomweaver, you cannot stop the summoning, but you can set yourselves up to be in a good spot when Gloomy is reborn.

Then he revives, and the Cultists find out he isn't their friend, and you must destroy him.  The damage dealt to Gloomy when relics die is to offset the 165 health the three relics and Gloomy have combined, you can destroy them with Argent Adept but the damage won't be as good (but the effect will be off the field).

A couple strategies that have come up in playing this villain:  You can go defensive and keep your health up best you can while waiting for relics to come out, You can try and draw the relics quickly using the cultists to summon them and hasten the ritual (you might want a good setup first).  The second side you need to keep the board clear and get Gloomy and the relics down.  I like the way Gloomy works with all the targets, and voodoo pins are awesome, just underused.  His second side that changes, and there is an extra cost for letting them stay on the field.

FIRST SIDE:

Gloomweaver; The Evil that Sleeps   90hp

Setup:

At the start of the game place all Zombies in the trash, put (H)-2 Cultists in play.

Gameplay:

At the start of the villain turn, if 3 relics are in play, flip Gloomweaver's card.

Gloomweaver and his Relics are indestructible (can be damaged, but cannot be destroyed or leave play)

When a Cultist is destroyed, search the trash for a Zombie and put it into play.

Once per round, at the start of the villain turn if there are 3 or more Cultists in play the heroes may destroy two to summon a relic, if they do play the top card of the villain deck.

Advanced:

At the start of the villain turn, if there are one or more Zombies in play shuffle the trash and reveal cards till a cultist is revealed, put it into play and destroy a zombie.

SECOND SIDE:

Gloomweaver, The Terror Reborn  90hp

Setup:

When Gloomweaver flips to this side, shuffle the villain trash into the villain deck, take all Zombies and Voodoo Pins out of the deck and put them into the trash.

Gameplay:

Destroy any Cultist in play.

When a cultist is destroyed search the trash for a zombie and put it in play.

When a Cultist is destroyed search the trash for a voodoo pin and put it in play, if no pins are put in play this way deal each hero target (H)-2 infernal damage.

At the start of the villain turn deal any hero effected by a voodoo pin (H)-2 infernal damage, Gloomweaver then recovers (H)-2 health.

If there is a relic in play Gloomweaver is indestructible.

When a Relic is destroyed Gloomweaver takes damage equal to 25 minus the hp of the relic when it was destroyed, up to 25 damage.

Advanced:

Increase damage dealt by Zombies by 1, reduce damage dealt to zombies by 1.

Suffer!  If we had deck manipulation, we could try to prevent them from entering play.  I think maybe card draws will be key, both the Drum of Despair and the Grimoire of Curses can be neutralized by discarding.

BAsically he is a forced two side version of Gloomy, his second side isn't instant death though (at least not in my test matches), he is really tough.  I really hope you guys like him.  We've been stomping pretty handily so I wanted a tough match.

May we do this on the first Villain turn?  (And, everyone else, would we want to?)

Yes you may, it would result in one cultist, two zombies, the first relic revealed from the deck and the top card of the villain deck being in play at the start of the villain turn.

You would get to choose the cultists to kill so it might be worth it.  (esp. since the one kind summon a zombie anyway and the other does a ton of damage) you would not get to pick which relic came out though.

Also on flip he only puts the zombies and pins that are in the reshuffled deck in the trash, the cultists in play will be destroyed immediately afterwards, and the Zombies and Pins will remain in play.

You just caused me to realize a flaw in the card language order, as it is written now summoning a relic on the first side would cause the advanced text to put a cultist back in play right away.  I'd prefer that check to happen first.  I'll think on that for a bit.

We just need a Tachyon now.

EDIT:  This has all been resolved, and the first part altered due to the Advanced text (see my next post)

Another question:

At the start of the villain turn deal any hero effected by a voodoo pin H-2 infernal damage, then heal Gloomweaver for the same.

Does this mean heal Gloomweaver for H-2, or heal Gloomweaver for however much damage was dealt?

OK, we got everyone.  Meerkat is out till tommorow, so everyone else get your cards and read over the villain, ask any questions you have and feel free to talk strategy.

I decided to leave the advanced text how it is.  Here's my ruling on it:  If there are three or more you have to choose whether or not to summon before the advanced text would take place.  If the advanced text summons a cultist for a zombie after that option is declined you don't get a second chance.  However, if there are two cultists and at least one zombie at the start you would not have the option to summon a relic, then the advanced text would destroy a zombie for a cultist, giving you the needed three, still being the start of the hero turn you could then choose to summon a relic or not.

When Gloomy flips, any 0hp relics would immediately be destroyed and damage to Gloomy dealt.  You could potentially have gloomy at 75 health and 2 relics at 0hp when the third enters play, if you then took it to zero health before the start of the villain turn all three would destruct, dealing 75 damage to Gloomy and therefore defeat him on the flip of his card.

Summoning the third relic to start a villain turn would of course happen after the check to flip him.  Summoning one on the first turn would cause the advanced text to trade a zombie for one of the cultists you just destroyed.

Any relics destroyed on flip would be in the trash, as the reshuffling would already have occurred, but if he goes through the deck again any in the trash would be shuffled back in.

The (H)-2 damage and healing: The healing is not dependent on the damage, he will attempt to deal (H)-2 damage, and Heal (H)-2 hp, I will try to clarify the wording.

On a strategy note on flip there cannot be any more than 11 cards in his deck, 6 pins and 5 zombies in the trash or in play, and 3 relics in play or being sent to the trash.  That means a 54% chance of drawing a cultist, and a 27% chance of drawing vast following, so those relics can bounce right back out if you are unlucky.  Pouch of Bones makes winning the second side ridiculously hard, as zombies should be coming into play pretty fast (and would have reduction of 2 add strength of the grave and it isn't pretty).  Orphidia becomes pretty nasty on the second side as well.

Omni and AA both take awhile to get set up well. As long as the cultists aren't too terrible, I would probably not rush into pulling out the relics. Cultists we can deal with; one the relics are out, we can't really do anything about them until Gloomy flips.

When a Relic is destroyed Gloomweaver takes damage equal to 25 minus the hp of the relic when it was destroyed.

But if they're indestructible, does that mean we can push them into negative HP, so that a destroyed relic could hit Gloomy for any amount of damage?

Just need Bluehairedmeerkat's starting hand and we are good to go.

To start Gloomweaver puts a Cursed Acolyte, a Profane Zealot and a Chosen Disciple in play, at the start of the Villain turn you can destroy two of them to summon the first relic in the deck.

This would result in:

Two Zombies and 1 relic would enter play, then one zombie would be replaced by one of the two that you destroyed, so two of the Cultists, one Zombie, and one relic.

Everyone put your vote, that way when Meerkat is ready we can go with the first turn.

So, we would be trading one cultist that we kind of get to choose (50% chance) for a zombie and a relic (that we have no control over). I have a slight preference for the known problem and killing the cultists the old-fashioned way until we get better set up.

For the relic, can you say more about your reasoning?  I'm leaning against.  The next round will hurt, but there's no ongoing/equip destruction in the deck, so the longer we get set up the better.  Grim88, would you be up for using your Hypersonic Assaults?  That would help keep the villains down for the next 2 rounds, or 3 if I use Vernal Sonata. I don't actually know how to play Fanatic very well, but it seems like Divine Focus would mean that you're taking a lot of damage and not able to build up your hand at all. If we were already set up and just needed a little more damage output to finish him off, this would be great. This early, I would tend to lean towards Absolution/Zealous Offense.

I tend to agree.  The one advantage in playing the promo Fanatic is it really feeds Divine Focus with the base power because it offers healing and card draw.  With Omni X and Greatest Legacy, they synergize very well with this strategy.  As you say, though, more set up would probably be better at this point

Legacy killed Profane Zealot, so the damage reduction should be gone - you hit them all for 2 damage. If I'm tracking correctly, the villain HP after Tachyon's should be:

Gloomy [88]
Chosen Disciple [5]
Cursed Acolyte [4]
Indigo Pin [7]
Zombie Servant [destroyed]
Sable Pin [7]
Zombie Servant [destroyed]

The Damage Reduction was from the Profane Zealot, who Legacy killed off, so I think you do 2 damage to everyone. Note this includes the Velociraptor Pack, unfortunately.

I'll get the list of targets damaged for you.  There's some confusion with pin colors again, I think. Edit: Thanks, grysqrl. FWIW, the death of the Profane Zealot brought out another Zombie Servant, which was also destroyed. Edit 2: Also, Lightning Reflexes is no longer in your hand, grim88. Edit 3: Oh, and Hypersonic Assault also hit Velociraptor Pack [3].

Omintron, I'd actually focus on the Indigo Pin on Tachyon rather than the Sable Pin on me.  If we don't kill off the Indigo Pin before Tachyon's next turn, she'll have to discard a Hypersonic Assault, which would hurt us.  The Sable Pin is harmless as long as Gloomy can't do damage.  (With the color confusion, I can't be sure what you actually meant...)

Who wants the card play? I see several good options: Legacy will probably be wanting to get his Ring out, Fanatic could do some substantial damage or bring out Zealous Offense, Omnitron could build up more or clear the field with Sedative Flechettes. Tachyon doesn’t have enough cards to play, and I can’t choose myself. I’m leaning towards Fanatic.

Note that Tachyon will (presumably) destroy her own Pin with the Hypersonic Assault before it makes her discard.

Options I see for the volcano:

  • Blinding Speed.  This could be Timeshifted into play by Omnitron, or I could give Tachyon an extra play after she has drawn the card.
  • Sarabande of Destruction.  I could use that power, one way or another.
  • Lead from the Front + Next Evolution to keep us all from taking damage, possibly with some trickery with me giving an extra play.

Anyway, let's see what the villain does.  Grim88, another option at some point (perhaps not now) is to not play a card or use a power and then draw two cards.

Another option would be to timeshift Legacy for bolster allies, that way everyone draws their top card, Legacy draws a new one for turn end and Tachyon can play her destruction card.

Tachyon is still going to have to discard if she doesn't hypersonic, so either way she loses a hypersonic this turn, with hud goggles that isn't a problem.  (playing the destruction card and hypersonic)

I draw Inspring Supertonic from Bolster Allies.  One combo that occurred to me: I can let Legacy use a power, and he can pass on the power use (probably back to me) with an additional 1HP.  Not sure I'll do that this turn, though; Syncopated Onslaught is another key card to get out.

There's no Obsidian Field in the trash to bring out.  You should still be able to take out the Sable Pin, though: it's currently at 7, and it sounds like Tachyon will probably do another 2 to it with the Hypersonic Assault. (Not that it's a high priority.)

I really need to stop making decisions right as I'm going to bed. I think I've mixed up the sequencing. I wouldn't have had the first TA in my hand at the point where you let me play a card (my card draw comes after your power from Timeshift resolves). I don't think I would have played any of my other cards, so if someone else would have wanted to play a card in the middle of my last turn then we should do that. In the meantime, I'll step back through my last turn and figure out what Omni-X should actually look like at this point.

Can we clear the board of cultists and pins?  If so, maybe the sonic vortex would be better.  Legacy can take any Melee damage (if he doesn't get killed) and there aren't so many things dealing other damage. That surprisingly looks plausible. Unfortunately more things to hurt us will probably be coming out, and neither attack will protect us against that.

There are 2 more vast followings in the deck, if you get cursed Acolyte again your all dead

Personally I would have fanatic shut down acolyte and kill the rest, even if you hypersonic the chosen disciple pulls a zombie, I would vortex then focus on killing things like pins and the disciple that do damage ZO can't shut down.

Zombies and the Chosen Disciple aren't a big deal at all actually, as Legacy can tank them with no trouble.

The Zombie turning into a cultist is something., but the only cultist that is trouble is Cursed Acolyte.

Right now Infernal damage is the big threat, if you leave the Acolyte in play ZO can shut it down, the sable pin is the biggest threat, but vortex is enough to kill it.  Right now you need some healing and to finish getting prepared to summon relics.

Put Rhapsody of Vigor in my hand, Alacritous Subdominant on top of my deck, Inventive Preparation on the bottom of my deck, Cedistic Dissonant into the trash, and play Akpunku’s Drum.

[hr]
I could play Rhapsody of Vigor rather than Vernal Sonata this round. (Both heal us all for 1HP.) How much do people want a card from the trash back? It looks like we don’t actually need the Hypersonic Assault. If I play Rhapsody of Vigor, then Legacy could let me use it with Gung-Ho.

I think it depends on whether or not you are going to take out the lava card during your power phase. If someone objects, then play Vernal Sonata and use your power to destroy the lava.

Right, I should have made that explicit.  Discard 3 cards helps Tachyon and doesn't hurt the rest of us unless I stack their decks, which I'm not currently planning on.  In fact, more cards in the discard gives more to choose from with an eventual Vernal Sonata.  If I play Vernal Sonata, I would use Akpunku's drum to (a) give someone a card play and (b) destroy the lava.

Gloomweaver has three cards that do infernal damage and one which does psychic damage (covered by TS) and only one (Cursed Acolyte, which also does infernal damage) that does fire damage (covered by EE). The environment has two cards which do fire damage, but taking the damage can be avoided in most cases. The Temporal Shielding covers more cards that deal damage that I can't avoid some way.

The only reason that I had EE up was because it came up in a Timeshift and I'd rather have it in my hand than in my trash. I didn't have another good play, so I took this opportunity to switch them back. Do you have a better suggestion?

I don't really understand Reset, and the strategy of when to play it or not.  The only other play would be Disruptive Flechettes, which would kill the Cursed Acolyte, so I understand why you might not want to do that.

You've got a Technological Advancement handily sitting on top of your deck… Too bad both your Innervation Rays are in the trash, but you could grab your other Electro-Deployment Unit. Tachyon or Legacy would be other obvious targets for Timeskip, since we know what they'll have on top.

What's the health of the T-Rex? We don't necessarily want to kill it: we could keep it toothless until another Relic comes out.

The Pterodactyl Thief doesn't have any special effect when it's destroyed, does it? I think I might be mixing it up with Pervasive Red Dust.

When Pterodactyl Thief is destroyed it returns cards beneath it to the players hands.  So if you kill it before then it does nothing.

So if you had End of Days and played it now and marked the Thief with Zealous offense, at the start of the environment turn Pterodactyl thief would trigger first (order in play) and take all your equipment and put it under itself, do no damage, then as long as you had the Thief destroyed before the cards under it those cards would go back to your hand.

Too bad you don't have end of days and the field isn't full of bad guys, that would have been awesome.

Also, because you are close to flipping gloomy:

Even if the third relic enters play by the Cultists-> Relics option Gloomy won't flip till the next turn.  Also he reforms the deck after flipping, so the Vast followings and all cultists will be back in the deck.  (This is key if only one relic survives the flip, as the others will come back out rather soon)

I've really enjoyed this game so far, and I already know of some changes I will make to his second side to make it better.

Yeah, Gloomy is so heavily Melee and Infernal, with double next evolution you can shut down everything but Acolyte's fire damage and Crimson Pin's Toxic.

One of the changes I'm considering to this version is on the second side making the damage Gloomy deals pin bearers differ by pin type.

Since the power came from Legacy, it should be before Tachyon goes.

Edit: And you don't have to wait for a response from me. Play a relic. Trash anything else.

It occurrs to me that we could potentially have won this by timeshifting each relic into the trash. It would have involved discarding - not destroying.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Cursed Acolyte goes to the trash.

Timeshifting relics into the trash wouldn't have worked here since you have to flip him to win.

It does work on the regular Gloomy.  Man you guys would have destroyed this if we had done the original.

Sonic Vortex was put to the top of my deck. (I saw your comments later saying Fleet of Foot might be a good choice, but since that came 'out of turn order' i didn't wantto cheat and do it.)

Ouch. That's brutal.

So, this seems like a good time for me to get as pumped up as possible and detonate some armor. I can clear the field - Gloomy will heal for 20 from the zombies that get played, but I'll be hitting him and each of the relics for 12-20. Each relic that gets hit for 20 means another 20 damage to Gloomy at the start of his turn, so I think it's well worth it.

Can we have Legacy Gung Ho AA and then AA distribute some damage boosts before Tachyon and I go to maximize damage?

As for my components...I'll leave it up to Legacy whether or not he wants to step in front of that fireball. I've got one each of Innervation Ray, Gaussian Coil Blaster, and Focused Plasma Cannon out.

Okay, I'm taking the fireball for Omnitronks, so I'm on 2HP.

Can we stop Gloomy from healing from the zombies entering play? The only way to do that would be to break the Pouch of Bones before any of the cultists are destroyed, but we can't break the Relic until the flip, and the flip kills the cultists anyway. So yes, let's just smash everything, and damn the torpedoes.

If Legacy uses Gung Ho on me, I will use the Lyra to give someone a card play and myself another power, and then use Vocalize on Syncopated Onslaught to boost Tachyon, Omnitronks, and Fanatic.

I think we might be able to win this round. If I read Gloomweaver's rules correctly, if we take all three artifacts down to 0HP then we win immediately on the flip (before the cultists get destroyed, etc, etc). I think we might well get up that far, with Wrathful Retribution, one or two Sonic Vortices, and maybe a Self-Sabotage or Singularity (or both), especially with the Obsidian Field out.

First part of Lyra: Activate the Perform text of Inspiring Supertonic. I use a power: Vocalize

Tachyon and Omnitron-X deal +1 damage until the start of my next turn (net +3 damage).
Second part of Lyra: Activate the Accompany text of Inventive Preparation. Tachyon may play a card.

If I got that right, Tachyon gets her card play after she gets the damage boost.

Syncopated Onslaught just boosts two, no? I would recommend leaving them on Tachyon and Omnitron-X

I don't think we'll have to worry about Gloomweaver's healing from bringing zombies into play. If we have all of the relics down to 0 (or less), he'll get hit for 75 at the start of his turn. If four zombies come into play (one for each cultist out now), he'll heal for 20 up to 55; so the relic hit alone will kill him, but we're also going to do a ton of damage directly to him.

Two Sonic Vortices is 12 damage to each target; that's enough to take out all of the cultitsts and zombies and get all of the relics down to 13 or less if the cultists and zombies die first (everything heals when cultists die). I can destroy an armor on my turn, which is another 16 damage to each target, taking all of the relics below 0. Anything on top of that is gravy.

It is possible to kill Gloomy on flip with cultists in play.

Upon flip the relics at 0 hp destruct first, then would chain to their damage, if you have all three at 0hp and they blow up gloomy he would be dead before destroying the cultists.

Does anyone disagree with this?

Sorry about a little miscalculation. I forgot that it wouldn't kill the Chosen Disciple the first time around. It shouldn't be a problem.

Gloomy would be taking 8 more damage from Divine Focus on Tacky and Legacy's turns, taking him back to 35

I'm going out for awhile, so I'll enter my turn as though my previous post is correct. I realize I also completely forgot to return damage with Reactive Plating. I don't think it's relevant, but feel free to assign it for me if it becomes so.

Omnitron-X

HP: 7? (I lost track and don't have time to figure it out right now. Feel free to correct me if it's relevant)

Hand: Temporal Shielding, Disruptive Flechettes, Singularity, Self Sabotage (2), Bio-Engineering Beam, Reset, Rocket Punch, Reactive Plating Subroutine

In Play: Defensive Blast, Temporal Shielding, Reactive Plating Subroutine, Innervation Ray, Focused Plasma Cannon, Gaussian Coil Blaster

Trash: Reset, Technological Advancement, Disruptive Flechettes

Additional effects: +3 damage dealt (from Legacy, Obsidian Field, Argent Adept); -2 psychic, infernal, radiant, sonic damage taken and if any damage of those types is taken, deal 1 target 2 damage of that type

------------------

Start of hero turn:

  • Innervation Ray heals Legacy, Fanatic, Tachyon for 1 each
  • Focused Plasma Cannon deals 5 (2+3) irreducible fire damage to Pouch of Bones [13]
  • Gaussian Coil Blaster deals 4 (1+3) lightning damage to Grimoire [11], Drum[14], Pouch[9]

Play a Card:

  • Disruptive Flechettes: no ongoings to destroy, 5 (2+3) projectile damage to all non-hero targets: Gloomweaver [38], Grimoire of Curses [6], Drum of Despair [9], Pouch of Bones[4]

Use a power: Defensive Blast - Discard Temporal Shielding to deal 16 (4 x 1+3) damage to all non-hero targets: Gloomweaver [22], Grimoire of Curses [-10], Drum of Despair [-5], Pouch of Bones [-12]

Draw a Card: Bio-Engineering Beam

End of hero turn: Nothing

Does anyone disagree with this?

Before the first healing (during the villain turn) Grimoire was at -3 hp, at the time Sonic Vortex started it was at 2hp, not 7.  My post above should be accurate.

Gloomy would be taking 8 more damage from Divine Focus on Tacky and Legacy's turns, taking him back to 35

Are you discarding on Omni's turn?

All current HP (unless Fanatic discards to start Omni's turn)

Greatest Legacy: 3

Tachyon:  9

Omnitron-X:  7

Redeemer Fanatic:  3

The Argent Adept:  5

Gloomweaver:  14

Grimoire of Curses:  -15

Pouch of Bones:  -12

Drum of Despair:  -7

I could do something fancy and rack up the score some more, but I think I’ll just sit in the corner and play a quiet little ditty to myself.

Environment turn is Pterodactyl Thief.

OK, villain turn starts, three relics in play, Gloomweaver flips.  Relics are destroyed, gloomweaver takes 50 damage and when the third is destroyed he dies at -81hp.

So what did everyone think?  I'm rather pleased with the results.

Also does anyone want to run the next one, I really enjoyed running this one and would be up for another.  We also might have enough people to run 2 games with 3 or 4 heroes.

It was good fun! There was at least one touch-and-go moment there. Gloomweaver's deck still doesn't have much destruction, whatever you add to it, so if the heroes get set up it won't be a big challenge. We could have played it a little safer by waiting longer before digging for the artifacts.

I'd be happy to run or play in another game!

That was fun. Good show everyone! Thanks to phantaskippy for reimagining Gloomy and running him for us! I feel like a game where three heroes regularly let other heroes do things during their turn has to be a nightmare to keep track of. I would be totally happy to play in another game. I've never run one, but I would do that too.

I think it could be time to get two games going simultaneously; that also means that the people running a game could also be playing in the other one. And like everyone else, I'd be happy to run one :D

Would anyone be interested in running a story campaign?  I've been working on one for Shattered Timelines that has different plots depending on the results of matches.  It wouldn't be purely random at all though, and heroes would likely be selected from a list of options.  I wouldn't need the same players each game.

If people are interested let me know and I'll start the first one.

I would also be fine just running regular games.
