Anyone interested in having a massive game on the forum. I am thinking that a different person would control each deck, but everyone can suggest what should be played. I am a bit curious to see how different people would play the same cards.

Sounds like it will be interesting to try out, also a little slow. But why not do something that gives me a reason for me to play Sentinels of the Multiverse!

Select someone to control each hero deck, they make the final decisions for that hero. However, all cards are known to all forumers and everyone and anyone can give their input.

So first thing to decide is which heroes, how many, which villian, where does all this take place, and who controls what. I am thinking we should stick with the base game now, since everyeone will probaly have at least that.

I would guess the number of heroes would be based on how many people resond, so the first 5 people to call dibs would be it. Considering there are already 3 of us it would make enough room for 2 more. Maybe the five people could choose the heroes from the base set they desire? Not sure about the villian, maybe just Blade since he is the easiest villian and keeping track of minions and such isn't so bad when facing him. Leading to less choices for the first game played by Forums. Environment I would suggest Ruins or Insula!

Well, it could be run by one of the hero players, but I think the more people involved the better.

I don't mind not controlling a deck, but I plan on giving a lot of input.

This sounds cool. I think a different person should be in charge of the villain and environment decks, just to get different people involved... and make it feel really blind.

May I also suggest that you set a time at which the next card will be played? That way people will know there is a deadline to provide input.

I'm between places now so though I always log on, I may not have my decks with me at all time for the next couple of weeks, so I shouldn't really control a deck

i would recommend keeping a list of your hand, tableau and trash offline somewhere, this is likely to run for a good few weeks especially with heroes that have cards that interrupt their own turns. for similar reasons we need to keep posting HP or, for preference, have someone act as a moderator to manage this and game effects.

Well for the first one we could stick with "simply" heroes, but that is up to you. I can do all of the automatic start of turn stuff, but if there is ever a choice (e.g. 2 heroes have max life) we will need to decide then. jagarciao suggested having a certain time that the player will make a final decision so that everyone can have their say before then.

As an aside, I started working on a website that would keep track of a game exactly like this.  It would essentially keep a virtual table for a game, showing which cards were out for each player, keeping track of target hp, etc.  I dropped the project though, for two main reasons:  for one, I was never sure exactly what problem I was trying to solve.  Should the site keep track of each deck so you hit a "draw" button and it tells you what card you've drawn, or should it only wait to be told by the player what card has been played, leaving it to the players to keep track of their own decks and hand.  I had been leaning towards the former, and actually had it working where you could shuffle a deck or look through a deck to pick a card, or shuffle the trash into the deck.  But since I wasn't even sure if that was the functionality it should have, I stopped.

Secondly, the sweet spot I really wanted to hit wasn't possible -- I wanted a group of people to all be able to share the same virtual tabletop.  But since I don't want to use backend storage to keep track of the game's state (I prefer tracking that in the page's URL for various reasons), everyone would have to be accessing the same URL, which meant IMing or email around a new URL whenever any little thing in the game got updated.  When I finally realized that I would never be able to make it truly and easily sharable, I gave up.

But for something like the play-by-turn forum or email-based game you guys are describing, having a virtual table that tracked the game's state while you posted the new URL after each move doesn't seem so crazy...

I think a google doc or spreadsheet would easily suffice for the purposes of this thread.

I will start a new thread a little latef tonight that lists advanced BB rules and starting stuff. As soon as you guys figure out the heroes you can list your starting hands and we can begin.

I am thinking we should try to llist the text of each card in the beginning since many people might not have their cards with them all the time, but they can still follow what's going on.

Also, where should I make the thread and what should it be called?

Actually going to start the thread now. I am going to put basic info first then the villan setup. After that, if anyone wants to draw their initial hand and put it up great. Once everyone has their hand up, I will start the villians turn.

Right now I am assuming the order is Omnitron-X, Freedom Six Unity, Haka, Tachyon, The Scholar, but just tell me if you want it to be changed.

EDIT: Any strategy advice would be welcome!

Spiff, the other thing to bear in mind is to avoid accidentally creating a virtual implementation of the game. The Vassal mod was hobbled by >G for this reason, and it's also why I deliberately limited the spreadsheet we use in the hangouts play. I'm not sure how far we can go in how much game detail can be used like this; card titles are one thing, the make up of a deck is another as are the card text and game effects. Eventually I stuck with only the titles for only the cards that remain in play. If you have the inclination to put something like this into a web based environment I'm sure the community will be grateful as not everybody has access to excel and that is unfortunately my limit for any capability with programming! I have no problem with encouraging people in hangout play to move to an online tracker that does the job just as well, in the meantime for this game we can always track the state of the table in the spreadsheet and manage our hands and trash offline.

Yeah, that was something else that lead to my decision to stop work on the project.  If it turns out there's a big desire/need for something like this, maybe I'll dust it off and see what can be done.  At the moment, it doesn't seem like there is.

Any of them really. Team Tachy will allow other heroes to draw lots of cards, while being able to shut down damage, and getting rid of pesky ongoings and environment cards. NightMist will be able to blast everything into oblivion if anything happens to get too nasty, dispatch lots of ongoings and environment cards, and tanking damage dealt to the highest. Engine Bunker can also get rid of ongoings, deal out lots of damage, and even shut down the enviroment deck.

So it really gets down to who you feel like playing!

Absolute Zero is a heavy single damage dealer while doing light spread attacks aswell, he has limited ongoing destruction but he can destroy up to 3 (the most that can be destroyed not including the randomness of Planar Banashment) at once and deal damage to all targets because of it, he's also a very good tank and can still deal out damage while tanking if he has Cold Snap and/or Impale. Wraith... Gosh, it'd be easier to say what Wraith can't do. After all she can deal tons of damage, control the villain deck, save the hero with the lowest health, lower damage dealt by the villain, destroy ongoing/environment cards, and can even tank for a short period of time. Legacy can boost the other heroes thus making them ever better, tank damage, and deal a fair amount of damage while healing his allies.

I have considered writing up my own guides, but haven't gotten around to it. Also Flamethrower has done such a good job on most them that I don't really feel the need to. The only one I wasn't really a fan of is his Absolute Zero one.

I don't think we have any concise description for every hero anywhere. There are the topics as to what catergory they fit in (tank, damage, support) though that isn't really the same thing.

I guess I could type 'em up, as it wouldn't take too long and it's not something I would have to pull out my decks for. Though Argent Adept of course would be easiest as all I would have to do is type "Argent Adept: EVERYTHING!!!!1" since there are plenty of ways to have him do anything you want to get him set for.

I will definitely setup another game, just not for a couple of days. My brother just got engaged and I am flyong to New York to see him. (Sorry using this as an excuse to tell everybody.)

If anybody else wants to start one go ahead, we can have a bunch of games at once. You can either try to recruit people here, or just roll up a game and wait for people to join (just make sure the topic says that people are still needed).

I'd love to play another game, but if there are none running then I'm happy to run one myself. So behold: https://greaterthangames.com/forum/topic/episode-4-the-ennead-3547!

I am uploading the templates that I have found useful.

I have found it esaier when the villain and environment is played by the same person (it tends to speed things up).

If you can, after you take your turn, PM the next guy (and make sure you have it set to send you an email).

Just a couple of suggestions. If anybody has some more, please post them!

Also, should we post info about these games on BGG?

TBH running a game in a geeklist would probably be easier than in a forum thread as it would allow an easy way to split turns.

Not a bad idea. Also, each game on BGG has a play-by-forum section, which wouldn’t be a bad idea here.

Well if we keep these games running on here then I guess we could ask CajunJoel to create a new subforum at some point so that we don't clutter up the rest of the events folder. Anyhoo, I think I may be up for another forum game wherever it is held, looks like I will be travelling again soon but I have a week or so off from it so should be able to get through to the end of a game before I disappear again!

Would people be up for another one of these? I'd be happy to run one if so. This was fun; let's get it going again!
