Greetings! As you may or may not be aware, Greater Than Games will be attending several gaming conventions in 2013. We will have a bunch of booth space at these conventions where we will be running demos. To that end, we are on the lookout for people interested in helping out at our booth, running demos.

Conventions

  • PAX East, Origins
  • PAX Australia
  • GaymerX
  • Gen Con
  • PAX Prime
  • and Essen Spiel

Volun-Tiers

Minion

  • Work at least 1 day (or day-equivalent amount of time) at the convention.
  • Receive a free t-shirt for every day you volunteer.

Citizen

  • Work at least 50% of the time the exhibit hall is open at a convention.
  • Receive a free t-shirt for every day you volunteer.
  • Receive a free exhibitor badge, courtesy of Greater Than Games.

Sidekick

  • By invitation only from the ranks of the Citizens
  • Work a schedule agreed upon with GTG.
  • Receive fabulous prizes.

If you are interested in helping out at any of these conventions, send me an email at paul@greaterthangames.com listing the Convention and Volun-Tier at which you are interested in helping!

Are any of those near the midwest?  Sorry, not too familiar with Cons.

Just got done requesting volunteer for GenCon.  Question about the free exhibitor badge given for Citizens.  Would that also cover the regular admission as well? (I'd assume they would, as when I volunteered for GenCon last year, we treated exhibitor badges as 4day passes.)

Both GenCon (Indianapolis) and Origins (Columbus, OH) are both in the midwest.

I am very interested in this. Either the PAX East or the Indy Con.

My only hurdle is the hotel. I am willing to share a hotel with somone to save on costs. If anyone is intetested, let me know.

Someone should tell these convention people to set up something in England - then maybe I can go to one :D.

If there were a big enough gaming con in England, we'd be there.

Yeah, the biggest event in the UK is the yearly games expo   http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/   but maybe not big enough yet.

But look! Chris Barrie will be there! Surely you guys are Red Dwarf fans?

Smegging yes I love Red Dwarf :D. I've seen every episode at least once (many of the older ones many times), own the RPG but haven't had a chance to play it yet, and have read all four of the books several times as well :D.

I went to the Expo thingy once, if it's the one I'm thinking of...we had to go on the DLR to get there. It was near Canary Wharf somewhere.

I'll help you run demos and help out at PAXEast but I don't know how much time I can do it until schedules come out. I don't need a free shirt either, but if you're printing new shirts and want to do one in 3XL I'll buy it at...get this...FULL RETAIL PRICE. Plus I'll give out high fives after appropriate amounts of purell have been applied.

How big is the gaming portion of DragonCon?

The gaming section is pretty big. I don't have exact numbers, but the con itself had over 50,000 people attend in 2012. I authored a few Living Greyhawk adventures and ran tables for them a few years back and everyday there were many thousands of people circulating through to play. I haven't gone the past couple of years (family plans got in the way), but the con has only gotten bigger. It is on Labor Day weekend (Aug 30-Sept 2) so it makes it easy for people to attend.  I know that this overlaps with Pax Prime so I am not sure if GTG has the manpower to handle both,  but I think that DragonCon would be a great forum to expand into a region that hasn't been hit yet (if not this year then maybe in the future). I hope this helps.

I am not sure I could schedule a whole day but I could give you guys a few hours of my time here and there to play with new people.  Is that something that would be useful?  I don't really need a tshirt or anything.  Oh, and this would be at Origins.

My volunteer time for GenCon is usually taken up with something else.

However, I would be happy to run some demos in the Kansas City area. I'll be going to my first Planet Comicon next month. I don't know how big their gaming area will be since it is not that big a priority for that convention, but I may bring my box anyway; it's a comics-heavy convention after all.

I very likely will be at KantCon and the Kansas City Game Fair later this year. I could do some demos at those conventions too.

I'll be at KantCon as well! In fact, I'm one of their guests this year, and will be also running the Greater Than Games "booth" there.

Come by! Run demos! Play games! Have awesome times!

Awesome. Provided I'm not doing a show that conflicts with KantCon, I'll hit you up and see if we can get more SotM in Kansas City.

I know there's some, as I rode the shuttle bus from the airport with a few people wearing SotM shirts coming from GenCon. I didn't realize the glory of SotM until after GenCon so I didn't talk with them.

Wait, someone besides me will be in a Spite costume?!

NO! I'll no longer be unique! I thought I'd be the only one in a Spite costume!

On a very related note, Christopher, Paul: am I encouraged to wear said costume whilst demoing Sentinels to people? I'd be more than willing.

Certainly! Though you might remove the full face mask, just as that makes it hard to understand people clearly, and that hall is LOUD.

I figured I'd probably need to take the mask off so the people demoing could hear me clearly and I could read texts on the cards. Good to hear, though. I'm very excited to wear it. Last night, I emailed with someone who I comissioned to make the jacket for me, and I'm very excited. I should have the jacket by the end of April. I'll post pictures in the costumes topic once I have it. I'm going with the left arm missing version of the jacket in his starting side art. I've got a wonderful idea for the exposed arm, though.

Me too--I'm going to have to resist the urge to wear it around all the time.

Oh, and to put any fears to rest: the syringes I'll be wearing on the chest belt will NOT have needles; I'm just going to fill them with colored liquid, take the needles off, and put the needle cap on the body anyways to give the impression that they are there.

I'll be going there in costume as well. I'll be dressed up as a Cursed Acolyte before he became the Cursed Acolyte. I wonder how many people will recognize all the hard work i'm going to not put into making it.

Nice, Ronway, very nice.

My Ra costume is coming along - the hardest part is going to be the staff, at this point. I need to either spend a few weeks carving it out of a block of wood, find someone with knowledge/experience with 3D printing (one friend is working on it, but he's in China so I might have some timing/logistical issues there), or figure out how to design and 3D print it myself…

(And here I'm talking about the head piece - I already have the staff, itself. And the LEDs that will be mounted in the head piece. And the red gemstone… )

Hello everyone.

Well I thought I was going to have to change my costume but no instead I'm going to do TWO at Gen-Con, a friend of mine is going to make the Matriarch for me for FREE woot! I also was going through my closet and realized that I have Miss Information already done in my closet so I am going to do two days as Matriarch and the other two as Miss Information! I cannot wait to see everyone...I'm so excited that I keep checking my email to look for something from Paul to say when I get my badge and where we are all meeting up on Wednesday.

Oh, I do have to say that I will be in a walking boot and using a cane only because I have a bad leg and if I am demoing I need to be able to move around so yeah in the demo area can I have a place that is really open so I can move easier?

Also, I have two crows that are going to sit on my shoulders for Matriarch that I fitted to me just because I thought it would be awesome!

Okay, this seems like the most relevant topic for my question:

Are there going to be any official SotM games at Gen Con? I've searched the event finder page and the DL-able Excel doc, but the only things that come up >G or SotM relevant are captaingoldfish's "Citizens Rise!" events. Is >Games only going to have demo events, nothing that can be pre-registered for to fit a definite time in one's schedule? If that's the case, how often and where are the demos being done?

TIA to anybody with info!

@Lynniekitty: Spite & Matriarch? How utterly terrifying would that be? Mwa-hahahhahaa... And is your Miss Information going to be Demure Office Worker or Revealed Saboteur? :D

Come to the booth, play a game, earn Sentinels Points. Demos will be run as fast as we can turn the tables around.

This is, of course, how it went last year. It may have changed, but I can't see it changing much.

If GenCon is like PAX East, one of the changes is that if you show enough interest at the booth, you may be asked to run games yourself. Another possible change is that if you walk through the free play area, you might well find many games of Sentinels in progress. Likewise, walking around hotel lobbies has a good chance of that as well.

There are no official registerable times to play. However, we will have a much larger booth, and will have room to fit at least 5 games of Sentinels very comfortably with plenty of chair space etc. There are also some games in the Gen Con game library from last year, and we might donate a few more this year if the demand is there, so between those and people's personal copies, I suspect that it will be pretty easy to get a game going in the free play area as well.
