Captain Cosmic (cmschex)

Prime Warden Tempest (phantaskippy)

Sky-Scraper (platinumwarlock)

Scholar (Medic-Tank)

Villain:

Citizen Dawn (advanced)

I'd be up for maybe joining a 39B game (as this is full and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the BF format) for my first PBF if my partner doesn't mind me leaving a deck of cards around our pokey little flat. Regardless, I'll be reading this one with great interest as WCos hasn't arrived for me yet and won't for a while because of the Atlantic Ocean.

Guise drops his phone. It's a camera too. Don't judge.

"Hey guys, can I join in? No? Aww, c'mon! I'm gonna be a thousand times more helpful than that guy whose superpower is holding a MacGuffin!"
Guise flexes. Yes, it's totally cool.

Guise

HP:  20

Hand:  Total Beefcake, Gritty Reboot, Selling Out, Say Cheese!

In Play: --

Trash: ---------------------------

Start of Turn: Guise discards Say Cheese! because Citizen Tears is a poopyhead.

Play a Card:  Total Beefcake. Who would want to hurt such beauty?

Use a Power:  Tough Choices....which to choose? I'll draw a card! Yay, the Best Card Ever! And punch Anvil for...nothing? Aww, that's lame! [1-1] 0 damage! The worst kind!

Draw a Card:  Uh, Yeah, I'm That Guy!

End of Turn: ---------------------------

HP:  20

Hand:  Uh, Yeah, I'm That Guy!, Best Card Ever!, Gritty Reboot, Selling Out

In Play: Total Beefcake

Trash:  Say Cheese!

Effects:  The first time Guise would be dealt damage each turn, redirect that damage to the non-hero target with the lowest HP.

So what's the plan here, folks? Are we going to try to kill Dawn without flipping her?

Discard Otherworldly Resilience for Citizen Jerk Face.  With our opening selection of options we might not be able to play the no flip game, as we don't have damage negation or card draw to counter the citizens in play.

Thank you Hugh my friend, this blade Is a quality weapon.

Well, Tempest took out Anvil, which was really great for us. I was hoping he had a Chain Lightning or Lightning Slash in his hand.

Don't forget that if you do an effect that has extra targets on your turn to include me so I can redirect it to one of the citizens.

I'll probably play a Proverbs and Axioms, That way I give you guys options and you can take a few hits to get threats out of the way with the extra powers.

If you play Proverbs and Axioms, Guise will do 3 psychic damage to himself, which will redirect to whichever Citizen needs to die the most, and use Tough Choices to draw a card, then hit something else for 1 damage.

We need a game plan.

We are going to be 1 citizen from a flip, we have no way to remove citizens from the trash, and 4 citizens we can't afford to keep out.

Surviving the 6 Citizens required to cause a flip will be rough, but If I can get healing we should be okay for that.  The big thing is we can't rely on return from the dawn shortening the process because that will put the nasty citizens back into play.

So basically, we are looking at a long game, so we need to be smart about taking damage and staying alive.

But for now we need to nuke what we can, because if we get lucky and avoid Truth we could do this quick.

If needed I can redirect and deal damage to Citizen Dawn. I'm planning on dropping three one-shots on my next turn depending on what I drew, but I could hold off for the flip as well. I'm a very visual person and don't remember exactly what all of the Citizens do offhand, so I'll bow to all of your expertise in this matter. Advanced Dawn is crazy difficult.

Sky-Scraper, the Proportionist!

HP:  22

Hand:  Catch a Ride; Thorathian Monolith, Compulsion Canister

In Play:

Trash:  Explosive Reveal

-------------------------

Start of Turn:

Play a Card:  Thorathian Monolith.  Sky-Scraper becomes HUGE!  Until the start of her next turn, redirect all damage dealt to hero targets to Sky-Scraper and reduce all damage dealt to Sky-Scraper by 2.

Use a Power:  Concussive Clap:  Sky-Scraper deals net 2 sonic to the following targets:

  • Citizen Tears [x]
  • Citizen Hammer [x]
  • Citizen Winter [2]
  • Citizen Dawn [78]

Negligible damage is dealt to heroes (which would be redirected to me and reduced accordingly, anyway).

Draw a Card:  Colossal Left Hook

End of Turn:

-------------------------

HP:  22

Hand:  Catch a Ride, Compulsion Canister, Colossal Left Hook

In Play:  (HUGE character card); Thorathian Monolith

Trash:  Explosive Reveal

Effects:  Redirect all damage dealt to Hero Targets to Sky-Scraper and reduce all damage dealt to Sky-Scraper by 2 (Thorathian Monolith)

The laylines were right it seems my wisdom is needed here. Good job on Tears team. Like a German proverb says: ''Nothing dries sooner than tears.''

As far as plans go I'll probably play Truth Seeker next turn I need to up my card draw and I'll keep the flesh to iron and alchemical redirection I can get to mitigate damage when dawn will flip.

The Scholar

HP:  22

Hand:  Flesh to Iron, Transmutive Recovery, Proverbs and Axioms

In Play:

Trash:  Know When to turn Loose

-------------------------

Start of Turn:

Play a Card:  Proverbs and Axioms: Each Player Draws 1 Card, Each Hero Character Card May Either Regain 2 HP or Deal Themselves 3 Psychic Damage and Use a Power

The Scholar Draws Truth Seeker and Regains 2 HP [24]

Use a Power:  Better Living: The Scholar Regains 1 HP [25]

Draw a Card:  Alchemical Redirection

End of Turn:

HP:  25

Hand:  Flesh to Iron, Transmutive Recovery, Truth Seeker, Alchemical Redirection

In Play:  ---

Trash:  Know When to turn Loose, Proverbs and Axioms

Guise deals himself 3 psychic damage, which reflect off of his amazing abs and deal 3 psychic damage to Citizen Winter [X]. He activates Tough Choices, draws Blatant Reference, and accidentally slaps Citizen Dawn for 1 damage [77].

(I'm pretty sure that even though all damage is being redirected to SS, because it's two overlapping redirect effects we can choose which one happens first, thus enabling this to happen. If that's not how it works, let me know.)

As fond as I am of the Mafia Penguin, River City Ransom is true love.  Also had to make a life-long friend jealous.

As for Beefcake, they would occur simultaneously and therefore you can redirect it before Sky-Scraper does.  Well done.

Environment - Time Cataclysm

Melting watches flow across the blurry landscape

In Play: None

Start: None

Play: Marsquake!

End:

Marsquake deals Citizen Dawn [75] 2 melee damage.  Attacks on Sky-Scraper and 6 other hero targets all are directed to Sky-Scraper and damped out for no damage.  (?? Do 2-2 = 0 attacks trigger Vitality Conduit, or is this held as the environment not actually dealing damage due to the DR ??  I think it doesn't count due to previous rulings.)

Effects:

- At the start of the environment turn, destroy 1 villain on-going card, 1 hero on-going card, and 1 environment card. (Marsquake!)

Vitality Conduit should only trigger when it takes damage, so it'll get hit once, die, SS will heal 2, then Guise will reflect the fire damage to Hammer before he causes any more damage-related issues. Or I can redirect it first and we can keep the Conduit alive, whatever SS wants to do.

Dawn should be at 75 at the end of her turn. Guise turn incoming soon.

Side note: I'm trying to build myself up for a nova turn when we need to nuke all 6 of the citizens Dawn will have in play. Looking back on my turn it may not have been a good thing to destroy Return With the Dawn, but she's got some of her nastier minions in the discard and I don't want to see them again. And we certainly don't need Hammer bringing Anvil out (or was it the other way 'round? I can never remember). Also, I want to be the lowest or tied for lowest HP target in case we see Citizen Autumn for more than one turn, my ongoings go away at the start of my turn anyway.

Will give a philosopher stone strike of two I can use it on you if you wish. btw the marsquake could have destroyed the return, given our limited ongoing destruction might have been a good idea. On the top of my head I'm not sure if autumn targets character cards or hero targets, if it's hero targets constructs do not possess ongoings to destroy. going to work so can't double check.

I discard a mortal to energy to tears, we need to kill her and the environment too. I wish we had a way to destroy this ongoing too the return keeps us under threat... And the quickest way I see is using the reclaim from the deep to pull back retcon. I would pull back a proverbs and axiom in this case that extra card draw would mitigate tears damage to our hands. If you guys have a better plan I'm all ears.

Comments:

If someone is taking out Tears and I'm getting Retcon back in my hand, I don't have anything really meaningful to contribute this turn. I can copy all of someone's ongoings for a turn and also have the ability to copy an equipment, but there's nothing worth spending those cards on at the moment. Going to continue building up my hand for a nova turn when it's applicable. Selling Out is much less useful than it would be if I weren't first in turn order. I don't know how else to be especially useful, because Guise is so....uhm...Guise.

Oh crap.

I just re-read the turns, I originally though Guise had taken out MCR.  But it is still there.  Dawn will get 2 card plays again.

Crap.  I could have taken it out on my turn but I wasn't paying attention.

Well if we survive this mess Captain Cosmic can put an Energy Bracer on Sky-Scraper, and her monolith can buy us another round, and then I can reclaim and play stratosphere again, she can grab monolith from her trash and Scholar can put it in her hands with Proverbs and Axioms.

That buys us a second round, at which point we might be able to run Alchemical again, or just survive a round, but either way we are looking at a shot to finish this off.

We just have to survive the coming play, and then get rid of MCR and don't kill a citizen.

Comments:

Nova turn initiated. I can use retcon twice in this round at the end of your turns to kill Fixed Point then MCP. If not, I'm going to keep doing as much damage as possible to Dawn. Let me know what you want me to do.

I can lose one of my ongoings to Citizen Sweat because they die at the start of my turn anyway. Don't waste yours when mine come pre-disposable.

Trash:  Wounding Buffer x2, Cosmic Weaponx2, Harsh Offense x2, Autonomous Blade, Potent Disruption x2, Conservation of Energy, Energy Bracers, Sustained Influencex2, Augmented Ally

Effects:

I put it next to Guise on the likelihood we can deal enough damage to Dawn to get her to 0 this round.

Also, am I correct in interpreting Contruct Cataclysm to have no effect in terms of damage since nothing would be actually destroyed (ie hit the trash).  If not, I would certainly play it for more damage

Construct Cataclysm unfortunately contains the phrase "for each construct destroyed this way," so it would do lots of zero damage. We might be able to use that as a finisher next round, though.

I drew Ball Lightning.  Yeah!

Guise gets a card play before my turn if he wants it.

I'm going to Reclaim, and if Scholar wants to play DDA Everyone could put their best damage card on top and we can all throw down.

TEMPEST

HP:  6

Hand:  Ball Lightning, Gene-Bound Shackles, Localized Hurricane, Reclaim from the Deep.

In Play:  Gene Bound Shackles

Trash:  Aquatic Correspondence, Ball Lightning, Chain Lightning, Electrical Storm, Into the Stratosphere, Lightning Slash, Otherwordly Resilience(2), Reclaim from the Deep, Shielding Winds

-------------------------

Start of Turn:

Play a Card:  Reclaim from the Deep, I put Aquatic Corespondence on top and draw it.

Use a Power:  Arc of Power:

Play Aquatic Correspondence (lightning damage to Scholar for nada) Draw Lightning Slash, Vicious Cyclone and Elemental Subwave Inducer.

Play Lightning Slash (lightning damage to Scholar for nada) (5+2) 7 Lightning damage to Dawn [16]

Play Ball Lightning (lightning damage to Scholar for nada) (4+2) 6 Lightning damage to Dawn [10]

Draw a Card:  Grievous Hail Storm

End of Turn: Guise Time!

Main Computer Room gave me a Tectonic Chokeslam!

Sky-Scraper, the Proportionist!

HP:  15

Hand:  Compulsion Canister; Thorathian Monolith; Tectonic Chokeslam

In Play: Micro-Assembler (Tempest); Compulsion Canister (Citizen Dawn); *tiny* character card; Cortex Hyperstimulator (x2) (Citizen Dawn); Rebounding Debilitator (Citizen Dawn); Neutralizing Resonator (Citizen Dawn)

Trash:  Explosive Reveal; Colossal Left Hook; Catch a Ride; Thorathian Monolith; Compulsion Canister

-------------------------

Start of Turn:

Play a Card:  Tectonic Chokeslam!  Sky-Scraper becomes HUGE and deals Citizen Dawn net 4 melee damage [6].  Sky-Scraper then deals all targets net 1 projectile damage (Scholar soaks all damage to hero targets).  Results are as follows:

  • Citizen Dawn [5]
  • Citizen Sweat [4]
  • Citizen Hammer [2]
  • Citizen Spring [5]
  • Main Computer Room [5]
  • Filter Spy [4]

Use a Power:  Colossal Clap:  I deal net 2 sonic damage to Dawn [3]; Sweat [2]; Hammer [x, but still in play, because of Fixed Point]; Spring [3]; MCP [3]; Filter Spy [2], and negligible damage to hero targets.

Draw a Card:  Undetectable Relinking

End of Turn:

-------------------------

HP:  15

Hand:  Compulsion Canister; Thorathian Monolith; Undetectable Relinking

In Play:  *tiny* Character Card; Micro-Assembler (Tempest), Compulsion Canister (Citizen Dawn); Cortex Hyperstimulator (x2) (Citizen Dawn); Rebounding Debilitator (Citizen Dawn); Neutralizing Resonator (Citizen Dawn)

Trash:  Explosive Reveal; Thorathian Monolith; Catch a Ride; Colossal Left Hook; Linking Incursion; Tectonic Chokeslam

Effects:  Tempest can use the effects of the Micro-Assembler.  Reduce the first damage dealt by Citizen Dawn each turn by 1 (Cortex Hyperstimulator), At the end of the Villain turn, Citizen Dawn deals herself 1 lightning damage (Cortex Hyperstimulator) (Do this one twice!); The first time that Citizen Dawn would deal 3 or more damage, prevent that damage and either destroy Rebounding Debilitator or put it on top of Sky-Scraper's deck (Resounding Debilitator); At the start of Sky-Scraper's turn, I may destroy Neutralizing Resonator to destroy one ongoing.

At the end of Captain Cosmic's turn, Guise plays I Can Do That, Too! on Scholar's Truth Seeker, hits Citizen Dawn for 2+2+1 = 5 damage, draws Gimmicky Character.

At the end of Tempest's turn, Guise plays Where Did I Leave That..., draws two cards, discards them to put Look What I Found! back in my hand.

At the end of Sky-Scraper's turn, Guise plays Look What I Found! and deals Citizen Dawn 5 damage.

I believe that kills her, but she's indestructible, so we have to wait until the environment turn for her to die.

Or you can spend the damage knocking off citizens or environment targets so as to get a bigger effect when everything suddenly drops dead early in the Environment turn.

No reason to hold back anymore and you had the grace to soften her up for me. *Loud crackling noise as an arc of lightning hits Dawn* And this is for good measure said The Scholar as he rammed the philosopher stone in Dawn's chest one last time, Well anytime now the pain should kick in...

Scholar puts know Know When to turn Loose on top of his deck with Reclaim from the Deep, drew Grace Under Fire with the Main Computer Room

The Scholar

HP:  17 (-4)

Hand:  Transmutive Recovery,  Mortal Form to Energy, Proverbs and Axioms, Know When to turn Loose, Dont Dismiss Anything, Grace Under Fire

In Play:  Truth Seeker, Flesh To Iron x2, Alchemical Redirection

Trash:   Mortal Form to Energy, Get Out of the Way, Keep Moving

-------------------------

Start of Turn: Scholar doesn't discard to keep Flesh to Irons. Fixed point cancels destruction of both Flesh to Iron and Alchemical Redirection

Play a Card:  DDA: Puts Know When to turn Loose into play Scholar discards his whole hand for a measly 4 lightning damage on Dawn (-10), Heroes can put the top card of their deck into play or move one card of their trash on top of their deck

Use a Power: Truth Seeker: The Scholar deals 2 Melee Damage to Dawn (-12) draw Bring what you Need

Draw a Card:  Grace Under Fire

End of Turn:

-------------------------

HP: 17 (-4)

Hand:  Bring what you Need, Grace Under Fire

In Play:  Truth Seeker, Flesh To Iron x2, Alchemical Redirection

Depends on when scholar got his second DDA.  Once #2 showed up we could lock Dawns deck down infinitely, taking no damage and putting a citizen on top every turn.

With Monolith and Slchemical redirection able to redirect all damage it would have been a Cake Walk from there, since even hero self-damage would get redirected.

The first aura was just after the cards I listed.  The second aura was 2nd or 3rd from bottom.  So, yes, this could be considered a fairly weak RISE draw.  Some of the nastier citizens early on, but her most dangerous one-shots and one of the most annoying citizens were less likely to be reached.

I'm really not sold on Guise at all. Every time I play him I feel like I do something every third turn - the rest of it is just drawing cards, playing something that lets you draw cards, and just otherwise sitting on your hands while smacking something for 1 when you can. I don't feel like I'm actively contributing to the group's objective until that third turn, and even then it's a flash in the pan.

I dunno. Maybe I just prefer the characters that seem to have more of a direction. For me Guise will always be the hero that gets pulled as the 5th after everyone else has selected one because A) the villian is already easy enough, B) the bases of what we need for a situation are covered, and C) I'm not taking that particular game too seriously.

Guise is a gimicky hero.  If the gimicks don't line up right you don't do much.

He can still have value when he's doing very little, and often when I play him I sacrifice the eventual awesome round for more effective early play.  Things like using Barbarian or Extreme when you won't get a lot of card play.

But honestly, the best way to play him seems to be building up a huge pile of cards and then playing them all in one round to make the most of your one-round buffs.

I don't play Guise much at all, because I prefer heroes that help a lot in the early game, over ones that play the finisher role.  When I do play Guise it is because the team is solid, has good base powers to copy, as well as Equip I can make use of and ongoings of value.

When one of my friends play Guise I tend to play someone that will give them stuff to copy or steal.
