Hey so I'm feeling a little bored right now and have nothing going on right now, so I thought I'd start a new PBF. If no one feels like playing right now, that's good too, but I feel like I'm probably not the only one who wants to play one right now.

So the Randomizer gave me:

Cosmitron vs:

K.N.Y.F.E (cmschex)

The Sentinels (Rabk)

Parse (dpt)

Team Leader Tachyon (Oaktree)

Setback (Powerhound_2000)

in the Freedom Tower

So if any one wants to play they are free to

I'll join if you only need a fifth as I don't want to be too greedy playing in multiple games.  I don't have any major preference on which hero I would play

No I just wanted to make a fun theme, but couldn't think of one. I was disappointed by that, so I tried to make a joke about it.

Or I was just jealous of your mad naming skills so I had to poke fun. One or the other, I'm not sure

While I think it's intended for Cosmitron to be a device none of the villain card images I can find show that.  It just lists it as solely a villain for both sides.

If you look at the source of the images you are looking at you will see they are fan created, not official. If you look at the thread under the images on BGG you will see some helpful individual pointed out the fact that those images were missing the fact that Omnitron is a device.

I don't have my cards with me and thus can't conclusively confirm or deny, but I'm pretty certain that he's listed as a Device on the printed card.

The Sentinels' turn will depend on where we need damage. If Setback wants to use Looking Up, then The Idealist or Parse can put out that seventh point of damage to blow up his toys and I can play my Chains. If Setback would rather play the top card of his deck, however, I'll drop a Horrifying Dichotomy on him. Just let me know, Powerhound_2000.

[Edit: I suppose I also need to know whether Parse plans on using Gauge's power. Writhe can do a weak scry, but not if The Idealist needs to zap the robot to let Parse look at the top of the deck instead.]

I want to try to play Fumbling Fool and then the Risk power so I could play Turn of Events next round.  However, if something needed punched still by my turn to get rid of the drone or components I planned to use Looking up.  Though depending upon what TLT has me draw before my turn I may have another option altogether.

Writhe: 14
Mainstay: 14

Hand: Fling into Darkness, Horrifying Dichotomy, Durasteel Chains, Aura of Vision

Play: --

Start of Turn:

Play: Fling into Darkness: Writhe deals 2 energy damage to Omnitron [94].

Power: Extract: Reveal the bottom card of Omnitron's deck, then discard it or put it on top of that deck.

Draw: Unique Capabilities

End of Turn:

The Idealist: 11
Dr. Medico: 13

Hand:  Horrifying Dichotomy, Unique Capabilities, Durasteel Chains, Aura of Vision

Play: --

Trash: Fling into Darkness

Additional Effects: Reveal the bottom card of Omnitron's deck, then discard it or put it on top of that deck.

Notes:  Since Parse can knock out the components with her packet of 1, I'm going to hang on to my Dichotomy as insurance against Electrical Pulses. For the scrying, please move to the top if it's a component or drone while discarding EPE, Adaptive Plating, Flechettes, or Terraforming. If it's a Singularity we'll need Tachy to chime in before deciding its fate: if she wants to play her Goggles this turn we'll dump the Singularity, or, if she's willing to hold off on the Goggles, we'll move it to the top of the deck to slow him down instead.

Willing to hold off on the HUD Goggles if that will slow him down.  Current hand won't benefit from the extra play given Omnitron's DR.

Do we want to put a point or two of damage on the Automation Drone simply to reduce its damage output?  That would depend of course on the optimal course of action for Setback.

And wouldn't we want to discard a drone in any case?  On Omnitron's flipped side playing a drone triggers another villain deck play, and it will flip at the start of the next round.

Ah, I overlooked extra card play from drones on his back side, thanks. Let's discard drones as well, please. (That power is much less useful now; oh well.) I thought about putting 2 damage on the Automation Drone to reduce its output, but that saves 2 damage to highest now vs. 3 to all heroes if an EPE comes out - I thoght it would be better to hang on to it until we had some better damage output potential on the table.

Sentinels drew Team Communication from TLT's power.

Wow, so the deck manipulation just got more complicated. We have, in turn order,

  • Writhe's Extract power, to look at the bottom card (currently the EPE) and do something with it;
  • Parse's Gauge (which I was thinking of playing partly for the card draw) to possibly move the top card to the bottom;
  • Setback's Fumbling Fool, which would discard the top card,
  • and the Maintenance Bay, which puts more cards on the bottom.

(I guess it's not a coincidence that all those cards come from Vengeance.) I'm not sure if/how we can best exploit all that, plus the possibility of, eg, timing the killing of Drones.

The Maintenance Bay is going to muck with Tachyon accumulating burst cards I guess.  But on this side I can Hypersonic Assault Omnitron to shut down his damage, and the one drone's damage, for a turn.  Or I can save that in case the other EPE turns up.

KNYFE already killed the Repair Drone. Presumably you'll hit Omnitron itself, putting it at 91.

(It's also slight inefficient to be killing drones like that; Tachyon is going to be playing either Accelerated Assault or Hypersonic Assault, so it's better to leave targets at 1HP for her, and if she does the Hypersonic Assault it's not really worth killing the Automaton Drone.)

I'll asume I'm healing by 1HP, as the 3HP healing should go to either Tachyon or Setback, I think.

I updated my turn then and have Omnitron at 82.   Before the environment turn it should be settled who got healed by the Sentinels.   I took the 3 HP so I would think KNYFE, TLT, and Parse should each be up a HP.   The discards from Fumbling Fool needs to be done as well since unless there is an Entry Point will make that discard go to the bottom of each deck.

I think this might be a good turn for a Hypersonic Assault? That gives us plenty of time to take out the EPE efficiently (with multi-target damage, if we have any). I could veto the EPE and risk the next card, but I would then be worried about Sedative Flechettes or Terraforming.

I'll be playing Updated Intel. I'm not sure how useful it will be on the villain, but it will at least allow us to recycle our own good cards (like Hypersonic Assault). If we could get into a cycle where Omnitron keeps playing Components, that would be great, but it might be hard to arrange.

TLT plan is to work in Fleet of Foot and the newly discovered Hypersonic Assault this turn.  That will keep the EPE at bay - so single-target damage this turn should probably be aimed at Cosmitron and Repair drones.  Especially with an Interpolation Beam component out there.

At the beginning of the environment turn, there were a total of 5 villain cards entering play. Here's what I did on each of them:

  • Repair Drone; move Dr. Stinson's Secondary Lab to the top of the Environment deck.
  • Assault Drone #1: Look at Legacy's Landing Pad and put it back.
  • Sedative Flechettes: Cancelled.
  • Assault Drone #2: Move Targeting Arrow to the top of Parse's deck.
  • Assault Drone #3: Look at Updated Intel on the bottom of Parse's deck, replace it.
  • Interpolation Beam: This is unclaimed, and I will look at the bottom of the Sentinels' deck.

Note that Cosmitron will be flipping back to its Exterminator side. I still don't want to move the Automaton Drone on the bottom of its deck.

On the villain turn, Cosmitron will get two plays, barring Terraforming; I will

  • Move Buffer Overflow to the top of my own deck
  • Move Turn of Events to the top of Setback's deck.

Setback End of Environment:

Hand: Turn of Events, Looking Up, Plucky Break, High Risk Behavior, Cause and Effect, Reckless Rush, Exceeded Expectations, Wrong Time and Place
In Play: Looking Up
Trash: Plucky Break, Fumbling Fool,“Opps, Sorry”
On Bottom: Exceeded expectations, Turn of Events

I really don’t need the Turn of Events put back on top as I have another copy in my hand already.

I’m still debating for my turn whether to play Turn of Events or Exceeded Expectations. Makes more sense to do Turn of Events if Reveal the Flaws is played.

Just a quick FYI update on current Tachyon Deck status:

In Play:  NONE

Hand: Pushing the Limits, Lightning Barrage (x2), Accelerated Assault, Fleet of Foot, Blinding Speed

Top of Deck: Hypersonic Assault (known due to environment card)

Bottom of Deck: Lightning Reflexes (bottom), Sonic Vortex (put there by environment card)

Trash: Hypersonic Assaut (top), Accelerated Assault, HUD Goggles, Supersonic Response

Initial plan for turn assuming damaging devices is possible is to play Pushing the Limits, Fleet of Foot, and then Hypersonic Assault.  Power use will be Team Leader.

Can Critical Multiplier with your Recompile discard be used with Tachyon?  Minimally will be able to stop the EPE.  (If a 3-card discard can be used as 3 separate +1 buffs for Tachyon then can hit EPE, Cosmitorn (assuming he will flip again) at one of the Assault Drones at least.)

Unfortunately, I can't get out Critical Multiplier and then play Recompile.

Critical Multiplier also doesn't work like that: I give out +1 boosts and can distribute them among heroes, but all the boosts to one hero get used the first time she does damage.

If KNYFE takes the EPE down to 7HP or lower I can Fling it into Darkness and let everyone else focus on the drones. Otherwise I can do, after DR, (1 to all and 2 additional to a single target) or (5 to a single target).

I have the potential for 1 more point of damage in my power phase if needed, though it would be preferable to switch on my DR or heal somebody instead.

Keep in mind that if we wreck the Interpolation Beam before Cosmi’s turn any drones still on the table will get +1 damage dealt and the Dropship will be hitting our 3 highest for  each at EoT (and get additional plays from drones entering play, including the one the Training Simulator will presumably revive next round).   If we let him keep the Beam for now instead, devices retain their DR1 and he’ll just play a single card at EoT. I think that, even with TLT doing her thing, 1 damage per card drawn is a fair trade-off for pushing that big “ouch” back a round while we handle the mess we already have on our hands.

If we focus on clearing our EPE/Drone problem this round, Parse could Critically Multiply TLT on the next one to help push a Hypersonic through before he flips and starts trying to zap us again.

Is everyone good with getting hit for two points damage by Interpolation Beam between Fleet of Foot and Team Leader?  Or should I save Fleet of Foot for next turn along with Hypersonic Assault and we work on getting Interpolation Beam?

I can hit the EPE or a drone for 4 damage with Cause and Effect and destroy Training Simulator or another environment card with it.  However, I take 5 damage from and another 1 when I draw a card end of my turn.   I can play Turn of Events the following turn depending upon the Risk play.  Overall, if we are keeping Cosmitron on this side that seems the better play from Setback.

It's Rabk's turn but they haven't logged in 6 days, once it hits 7 days I'm thinking about throwing it open.

Do the existing players want to have a 'free for anyone' so it's just whomever happens to log on and can post a turn first so that when/if Rabk comes back they can slot back into the action, or do you want to find a permanent replacement player?

During the environment turn, Dr. Stinson’s Secondary Lab reveals Extrasensory Awareness. I leave it on top of the deck.

It seemed like getting rid of the Entry Point was a high priority. If it’s not for some reason I missed, there’s plenty of other stuff I could do.

EDIT: Damage boost switched to Setback. I forgot Pushing the Limits dealt its damage at the start of the turn.

Parse

HP: 12

Hand: Gauge, Recompile (x2), Data-Mining, Between the Lines, Updated Intel, Buffer Overflow, Segmentation Fault

In play: Critical Multiplier

Trash: Between the Lines, Reveal the Flaws, Impossible Shot, Buffer Overflow, Critical Multiplier, Updated Intel, Snap Decision

Top of Deck: Extrasensory Awareness

[hr]
Start of turn:

Play a card: Segmentation Fault

Use a power: Segmentation Fault. Discard Recompile and destroy Entry Point. Next damage dealt by Setback is increased by 1 (due to Critical Multiplier).

Draw a card: Extrasensory Awareness

End of turn:

Omnitron drops to 63HP thanks to the jiggery-pokery of The Sentinels changing targets mid-swing. I'll be back near my decks in about 2-3 hours to do the Environment turn and then the dreaded Omnitron.

By my count, Omnitron has exactly two cards before we get down to the bottom-of-the-deck stack: a Repair Drone and Terraforming. We can't afford either Terraforming or Sedative Flechettes. So Parse will be playing and using Extrasensory Awareness to discard one of them, then veto the other. We'll end up with an Electro-Pulse Explosive for the non-drone villain card play next turn. To deal with it, Tachyon can bring out a Hypersonic Assault.

Bottom of Deck: Sedetive Fletchettes, Series 84 Automaton drone, EPE, Series 85 Repair Drone.

*******

Start of turn: Omnitron searches for components, finding none the Sentient Dropship stays around play.

Play: Series 85 Repair Drone enters play, plays Sedetive Fletchettes, which Parse discards with Buffer Overflow (almost like she knows Omnitron inside and out), which plays a Series 84 Automaton drone and an Electro-Pulse Explosive.

End of turn: Omnitron pew-pews "people". Tachyon would take 5 damage, does Setback redirect 6 (5+3 tokens) to himself? Writhe would take 4 (5-Block) and redirects it to Cosmitron for 3 damage (18) or does Setback redirect it to himself? Someone takes 5 damage, Parse, (possibly) Setback or Dr Medico, who?

Decisions need to be dealt with before Omnitron can continue his rampage.

KNYFE: 6
The Idealist: 5
Dr. Medico: 8
Writhe: 9
Mainstay: 7
Parse: 8
Tachyon: 13
Setback: 8

Sentinels have DR 1. Mainstay has DR 2. Writhe reduces the first damage dealt to him and redirects it. Setback is dealt one extra damage and deals one extra damage due to his Unlucky Pool

I would say from Cosmitron Tachyon and Writhe are the first targets.  The third target would be between Dr Medico and Setback.  Which out of those I would prefer Medico take the damage. Cosmitron would have 3 damage redirected to him and then Writhe would be the target for the Automaton drone which would deal him 5 net damage.

Powerhound, your analysis sounds good to me. I don't think it makes sense for Setback to take any of the damage (at the cost of Unlucky tokens).

Will we be able to clear the board this turn? Tachyon's two Lightspeed Barrages for 14 each should help a lot there: One for the EPE, the other for Cosmitron.
