I think you just spoiled the surprise. Pretty sure this was the halloween episode where all the villains dressed as other villains to try and get into the FF's HQ

I think the best bet is probably for Ra to take the pin, but I'm willing to discuss. Ra can heal, Ra isn't about to punch himself in the face, and we'll have more time to destroy the pin before his turn.

I'm amused by the notion of Gloomweaver wandering around the graveyard, looking for the body that looks most like Dawn so he can play dress up.

And what villain (other than Aminia) is actually likely to be let into FF HQ?

Ra doesn't need to hit the Pouch - Naturalist ate it.

All fire damage might make some of KNYFE's stuff not so useful (or substantially more painful) down the line, but it's probably better for the group so I'd say go for it.

--------

Start: n/a

Play: Nomti [9]

End: Shamise deals KNYFE 3 Infernal damage [17] (Parse is lowest, followed by KNYFE, then Gloomweaver)

KNYFE 16

Naturalist 24

O-X 24 takes none, as he has Ablative Plating in play, of course...I knew that....right...

Ra 22.  Ra retorts with net 3 fire damage to Mdjai (1)

Nomti deals O-X net 2 melee damage [212], and his components are totally perfectly fine...nothing to see here!!  (O-X is second highest, after Naturalist,)  O-X deals Gloomweaver net 3 fire damage, because of Reactive Plating Subroutine.

Effects:  All environment targets now have DR 1 (Mdjai)

O-X is reducing melee damage by two with the Ablative Coating and  since I still take damage from Nomti I get to deal 3 fire damage to a target. So Nomti would only deal 2 damage to me and I'll deal Gloomweaver 3 fire damage.  Mdjai would not deal me any damage.   So I should be at 22 health and still have my components.

It it would also mean Sable pin would go on O-X and probably should be a bigger target this turn.   Though with the Imbued Fire I can take 6 health off of it.

Edit: I do apologize that due to other items I had to edit my turn multiple times and I think some things are still a bit messed up.  At the end of the last turn O-X has these in play:

Focused Plasma Cannon, Innervation Ray, Focused Plasma Cannon,Reactive Plating Subroutine, Ablative Coating

I do need a consensus decision on whether the Chosen Disciple (Zombie resurrector) will stay on the bottom of Gloomweaver's deck or not!  I need this before I can proceed with the villain turn.

Environment - The Tomb of Anubis

In Play: Shamise [4]; Rod of Anubis; Mdjai [1]; Nomti [9]

--------

Start: n/a

Play: Spike Trap.  A Hero may destroy one of their Ongoing/Equipment cards now to destroy Spike Trap!

End: Shamise attempts to deal a hero target infernal damage, but decides not to.

Mdjai deals each non-Environment target 1 melee damage, but fails to deal damage to Hero targets.

GW 5

Nomti fails to deal a hero target melee damage.

Effects:  All environment targets now have DR 2 (Mdjai) (Environmental Allies).  Hero targets are immune to damage from Environment Targets (Environmental Allies/Gazelle Form).  If Spike Trap is not destroyed, it will deal 3 melee damage to the lowest HP target at the start of the Environment turn.

If people focus Gloomy I am going to Scorched Earth on my turn for 7 damage to everything.  So if people want to drop things low enough they will die to that.

I like Spike Trap in play because it gives me an extra damage to scorched Earth, but it is cool if people want it gone.  I can even sacrifice Flame Barrier (although that is going to be doing pretty good damage to Gloomy) to get rid of it.

Meanwhile, at Mister Fixer's dojo--the de facto headquarters of the erstwhile Darkwatch--Nightmist thumbs through the Tome of Elder Magic, glowing runes and sigils rotating slowly through around her head, weaving through the mist.  With a start, Faye's eyes widen and she flings the book away from her.

Expatriette looks over from her reloading station, "Faye?  What's the problem?"

Nightmist simply shakes her head, "They're in horrible danger.  And we can't get there to help them..."

Bottom of Gloomweaver's deck is Ophidia, the Deceiver.

Who's claiming the Rod of Anubis?

Environment - The Tomb of Anubis

In Play:  Rod of Anubis (in Naturalist's play area); Nomti [4]

--------

Start: Spike Trap triggers!  Nomti takes net 2 melee damage [2]

Play: Judgement of Anubis!  Anubis takes the field [20].

End: A Hero may destroy one of their Equipment cards to destroy Spike Trap!

Judgement of Anubis allows Anubis to deal each target 2 Infernal Damage, though that turns out to be just Gloomweaver [94].

Nomti fails to deal a hero target melee damage.

Effects:  All environment targets now have DR 1 (Environmental Allies).

Hero targets are immune to damage from Environment Targets (Environmental Allies/Gazelle Form).

If Spike Trap is not destroyed, it will deal 3 melee damage to the lowest HP target at the start of the Environment turn.

I think we can keep targets between us and the Spikes, so I'm all for leaving it in play.

If someone deals Anubis 3 damage and he'll be lower than us.

KNYFE launches herself forward, driving her gauntlet into the spongy, dead flesh of Gloomweaver's rotten corpse.  The risen being flings the warrior-woman aside with a casual ease, sending her smashing into a series of canopic urns.

As she rises to her feet to struggle on, Anubis turns to Ra.  "You fools," the jackal-headed lord of the underworld cries, " Aeons ago, it took the talents of the full Ennead to lock away Gloomweaver!  Your meddling has doomed this world!"

Anubis gestures with his rod to the floor, where an ominous-looking book sits.  "That is the Book of the Dead.  It heralds the end of your world."

Skinwalker Gloomweaver - ROUND 7

Gloomweaver (53) [The Rotting God]

In Play:  Ophidia, the Deceiver

Trash:

Pouch of Bones

Chosen Disciple (x2)

Crimson Pin

Zombie Servant (x2)

Sable Pin

Grimoire of Curses

------------

Start of Turn: Gloomweaver attempts to deal each target 5 infernal damage.  Results are as follows:

  • KNYFE takes net 4 damage [9]
  • Parse takes net 5 damage [9]
  • The Naturalist takes net 3 damage [16]
  • Omnitron-X takes net 3 damage [9] and backlashes Gloomwaver for 3 fire [50].
  • Ra takes net 5 damage [10] and backlashes Glooomweaver for 4 fire [46].
  • Anubis takes net 4 damage [10]
  • Swarm of Scarabs takes net 3 damage [2]
  • Gloomweaver deals himself net 5 damage [41]
  • Ophidia, the Deceiver, dies.  Gloomweaver regains 2 HP [43]

Play:  Vast Following!  The villain trash gets shuffled and we peel 5 cards:  Chosen Disciple, Grimoire of Curses, Zombie Servant, Chosen Disciple and Sable Pin are revealed.  The Chosen Disciples and the Grimoire enter play. As of this moment, a Profane Zealot is on the bottom of the villain deck.  I'm assuming you don't want to put that into play, as cultists will give me more plays.  I play the top card of the Villain deck:  Strength of the Grave.

End of Turn:
Gloomweaver deals Anubis net 2 damage (12) and deals the Swarm of Scarab net 1 damage [1].  Gloomweaver deals himself [40] each Chosen Disciple net 3 damage [4 and 4].

Chosen Disciple #1 pulls a Zombie from the trash and deals the Naturalist net 1 damage [15].

Chosen Disciple #2 pulls a Zombie from the trash and deals the Naturalist net 2 damage [13].

Zombie #1 deals the Naturalist net 3 melee damage (H-2+2-2=3) [10].

Zombie #2  deals the Naturalist net 3 melee damage [7].

========================
Effects:
- Whenever a target is destroyed, Gloomweaver regains 2 HP.

- Whenever a cultist is destroyed, play the top card of the Villain deck.

- Increase damage dealt by Zombies by X, where X = the number of Zombies in play.  Reduce damage dealt to Zombies by 1.

(Start of Turn)
- Gloomweaver deals each target H (5) infernal damage.

- Each player may discard 1 card.  Gloomweaver deals each Hero target X infernal damage, where X = H minus the number of cards discarded this way.

(End of Turn)
- At the end of the Villain turn, Gloomweaver deals all non-Hero targets H-2 (3) Infernal damage..

- At the end of the Villain Turn, Chosen Disciples pull Zombies from the villain trash and deal X melee damage, where X = the number of zombies in play plus 2.

- At the end of the Villain turn, Zombies deal the highest HP non-villain target H-2 melee damage (3)

I think either way it is better for Naturalist to take the hit.

I've got at least 11 damage coming so long as Anubis, the Scarabs , or the rod remain in play so I can use Bio-Engineering Beam and then Defensive Blast

Edit: thinking about it further unless I have a damage buff I'll end deal in one damage overall since defensive blast will wipe out all his minions but the Grimoire.  So while I would deal 11 overall he would heal for 10 because I took out 5 targets and also end up playing two cards.  So without a damage buff it may not be worth it.

So, KNYFE can either take out the Swarm of Scarabs or deal 10ish damage to Gloomweaver. It looks like we're up to 31 damage against GW. If we're going to be able to take him out, I'll just hit him. If not, I think I should kill the Scarabs so we can draw cards.

Keep in mind a Defensive Blast will kill the zombies (which will heal him) and the cultists (which will heal him and play cards) - we might want to avoid that unless it will kill him before it hits the others.

Also, keep in mind that you don't need an environment card in play to use Bio Beam. The damage isn't conditional on destroying something.

Yeah I wasn't counting on all the targets being in play this turn.  Though we do need to take them out so we have some chance to deal with them.  Gloomweaver might kill off what he puts into play as well if I kill them on my turn. Otherwise,  we may be nearly dead if we don't finish him this round

I wasn't aware of that with BioBeam I had thought it would be conditional.  Good to know

It seems like we won't muster 40 points of damage this turn.  It may be worth while to take out the cultists before my turn and if any more minions come into play they should be toast by my Defensive Blast.   Along with that Parse could setup Gloomweavers next turn and another hero's draw

Cursed Acolyte dies and brings Gloomweaver to [26] and provides Gloomweaver with another card play!

Card play from Vast Following is Crimson Pin, which takes 8 damage from Defensive Blast [1] and is placed next to The Naturalist (not that it's going to matter briefly).

Card play from Cursed Acolyte's death is Indigo Pin, which takes 8 damage from Defensive Blast [1] and is placed next to Parse (again, not going to matter, come GW's turn).

I'm assuming that Ra is dealing his damage to Anubis (who takes only 2), then destroys the two pins, which heals Gloomweaver to [23], and deals 3 damage to the Grimoire of Curses [11] and the Pouch of Bones [14]

Environment - The Tomb of Anubis

In Play:  Rod of Anubis (in Naturalist's play area); Anubis [6]

--------

Start:

Play: Akana [8]

End:

Effects:  All environment targets now have DR 1 (Environmental Allies).

The first time a non-Environment card is destroyed each turn, Anubis deals the non-Environment target with the second highest HP 2 Infernal damage.

The first time a Villain target is destroyed each turn, play the top card of the Environment deck (Akana)

In Play:  Rod of Anubis (in Naturalist's play area); Anubis [6]; Akana [8]

Pushed to the brink, the heroes mount their final offensive against the swelling, bloated form of Gloomweaver.  Omnitron-X's mighty defensive blasts, Ra's fiery wrath, and KNYFE's energy blades pummel the creature as Parse frantically barks out orders over her headset comlink.  Gloomweaver's burning eyes fix on Anubis as the jackal-headed creature frantically grabs for the Book of the Dead.

With one massive claw, Gloomweaver grabs up Anubis and tosses him into his fetid maw.  "Ra!" the lord of the underworld screams, "Strike now!  Stop him before he consumes us all!"

Skinwalker Gloomweaver - ROUND 8

Crimson Pin

Zombie Servant (x3)

Sable Pin

------------

Start of Turn: Gloomweaver attempts to deal each target 5 infernal damage.  Results are as follows:

  • KNYFE takes net 4 damage [5]
  • Parse takes net 5 damage [4]
  • The Naturalist takes net 5 damage [5]
  • Omnitron-X takes net 3 damage [6] and backlashes Gloomwaver for 3 fire [20].
  • Ra takes net 5 damage [5] and backlashes Glooomweaver for 4 fire [17].
  • Anubis takes net 4 damage [2]
  • Akana takes net 4 damage [4]
  • Gloomweaver deals himself net 5 damage [12]
  • Pouch of Bones takes net 5 damage [9].
  • Grimoire of Curses takes net 5 damage [6]

I'm assuming that everyone's going to discard a card for the Grimoire of Curses.  If not, well...you guys won't last long.  List your discards on your turn.

Play:  Zombie Servant [2].  All Villain targets regain 5 hp--Gloomweaver [17], Pouch of Bones [14]; Grimoire of Curses [11].

End of Turn:
Gloomweaver deals Akana [2] and Anubis net 2 damage [x].  Akuna triggers and plays Cast into the Underworld.  Gloomweaver deals himself [14] 3 damage, the Grimoire 3 damage [8], the Pouch of Bones 3 damage [11], and the Zombie Servant [x] net 2 damage.  When Zombie dies, Gloomweaver heals to [16].

========================

Effects:
- Whenever a target is destroyed, Gloomweaver regains 2 HP.

- Whenever a cultist is destroyed, play the top card of the Villain deck.

- Reduce damage dealt to Zombies by 1.  When a Zombie enters play, Villain targets regain H (5) HP.

(Start of Turn)
- Gloomweaver deals each target H (5) infernal damage.

For what it's worth, Anubis isn't a villain target, so Akana shouldn't trigger off his death. However, she'll trigger off the zombie a few seconds later so it won't make much difference.

I'll discard Indomitable Force.  Also, if we can get him to 11 on my turn, he'll be Croc food

Well, he's at 6 now, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I've discarded Self Sabotage.  Though I have a good feeling I won't have another turn for that to really matter.

My pleasure, guys! This one was a blast--right down to the wire... So who's starting the next one? I want to play!

As her allies gape, shocked by the risen Gloomweaver's savagery, Parse stands, silently calculating angles and trajectories.  With a start, she cries out, "Paige!  Left kneecap, then the shin below it!"  KNYFE leaps to action, hammering the demon-beast's knee with her servo-gauntlet, then slicing across Gloomweaver's leg with her mighty energy blade.  As KNYFE slides down to the desert below, Parse nocks and fires two arrows.  The first sinks deep into Gloomweaver's forehead, while the second pins the demon's right food to a piece of scrub foliage.  The demon stumbles, roars a final time, then crashes lifeless to the desert floor.  Its form discorporates into so much refuse and rot, its relics vanishing, surely to be collected once more by Gloomweaver's deluded faithful.

Ra steps forward.  "Anubis, my brother..."

The Naturalist steps forward, "He hated you, did he not?"

"No," Ra murmurs, "Not hate...we are an old people.  We hold long memories and longer grudges."

"Perhaps, then, at the end, he forgave you?"  The Naturalist clasps Ra on the shoulder, "Perhaps the rest of the Ennead may someday do the same."

"Under less tragic circumstances, hopefully."  Ra turns and begins walking into the desert.

"Master Ra!" Omnitron-X starts, "To what location do you travel?"

"Nowhere..."

I discard drawn to the flame for my part.

And I love the ending.  I think it captures Ra's out of place nature well.

I didn't like Ra early on playing Sentinels, because he was so vanilla.  But I've grown to really appreciate his style and personality, and I love hwo he can never quite fit in anywhere due to the combination of host and god.  It's a cool character.
