As we're approaching the end of May, it's probably time to organise when we're meeting up for the next London Sentinels Day (TM). As Ameena's partner Ja'ph can only do Sundays, the options are:

Sunday 8th (LOB: The Mad Hatter, 3-7 Stamford Street, SE1 9NY)

Sunday 15th (LOB: The Mad Hatter, 3-7 Stamford Street, SE1 9NY)

Sunday 22nd (LOB: The Mad Hatter, 3-7 Stamford Street, SE1 9NY)

Sunday 29th (LOB: The Mad Hatter, 3-7 Stamford Street, SE1 9NY)

So, which date suits people the best? I would be aiming for the 15th/22nd so that GSF has time to cross the Atlantic before we play.

Also if people find the LoB locatin too much of a pain to get to as the Old Star is probably no longer available, let me know and I'll organise something, probably at the Jugged Hare as they were prettty good last time (although they only open at 12 on Sunday so it would be later than usual).

I favour the 29th, since I'll definitely be in London by then.

Ja'Ph' will be arriving at my house in about 45 mins so I'll try and remember to ask him if he has a preference. I don't think it'll matter, though, unless he happens to end up working any of those Sundays. I just looked up that Mad Hatter place on Google Maps and as I was thinking we'd have to get a Tube from Victoria...then remembered that trains from Swanley go to Blackfriars as well so we can get one of those instead and just walk across the bridge :).

Neither the 8th or the 22nd would work for me, so the 29th would also be my favoured choice. I'll certainly be along for GSF, that previous play wasn't really enough to get into the game so I'd like to play again all the way through.

Ja'Ph' is working on the 8th, he's just told me, and he says that when he's in work tomorrow he'll say he can't do any other Sundays after that so hopefully we should be able to attend any of the others. Awaiting confirmation though.

Unless something major changes, we'll be at LoB on the 29th June. The reservations open on the 15th at 12. The meet-up itself opens at 12, as, presumably, does the pub. As it's part of the LoB meetup, could non-LoBsters join up and reserve spaces to avoid us getting in trouble.

I will bring GSF along as well as Sentinels, but as it looks like there'll be a few of us, could a second copy of Sentinels make it's way down as well, please?

After a bit of searching around on Google Maps I finally managed to find both Liverpool Street Station (which I've never been to, except in Monopoly ;)) and the specific Railway Tavern you meant (originally Googling just that name gave me about six results, lol). It looks like we can get the train to Blackfriars (if it's open this time...), or maybe Farringdon (as I seem to recall that the train that goes through Blackfriars stops there as well) and then the Tube from there. I'll try and remember to mention it to Ja'Ph' this evening and confirm which day we both fancy coming along.

Umm, so Ja'Ph' and I were a bit late (twenty minutes), given that we had to wait about twenty minutes for a Tube from Blackfriars. Then we emerged from Liverpool Street Station and couldn't find the Railway Tavern. So we asked a random policeman and he said it wasn't there any more 'cause it had been boarded up and stuff, so we went along the road a bit and found a place that looked like it had been boarded up, stood there for a while, then went off and did other stuff as we had no way of contacting anyone to ask what was going on.

Now we're home I've had a better look on Google Maps (I was kind of tired when I did so the other night, and forgot to Street View it and stuff) and found that the place is actually there, and that it was round the other side of the station from where we came out (we'd've come out near it if that exit hadn't been closed off, however).

So, whoops, lol. But at least we'll be able to find it next time, if we're there again (and hopefully there will be more Tube trains headed along the Circle line so we won't be so late again :P). Sorry if you were sat waiting for us to arrive :(.

Sunday sunday sunday!

I actually managed to get along there, Huzzah!, and much gaming was done. There were 4 games of Sentinels played, with lots of playtesting with fan made decks (I felt quiet left out with all those character ideas flying around) and official WotC decks, so much cut out paper! We lost as many games as we won but even when we lost we put up a good fight.

After that it was time for Tactics, it was my first time seeing the finished product. I was impressed by the comics/scenario books, particularly with their crossovers with the flavour text on the cards.

We played all 3 Blade scenarios, with AZ and Ra taking the roles of the heroes.
The first scenario was completely dominated by baron Blade, the heroes spent a lot of time chasing him around the board for no effect, I think the heroes managed a whopping 1 point of damage to Blade over the course of the whole scenario!

Scenario 2 was the complete opposite, the heroes crushed everything that Baron Blade put down. With area attacks coming from both AZ and Ra Blade went down quiet a few times too. Even with Forcefield turrets and his Kinetic Redistributor up and running it was a whitewash for Blade.

The cumulation of the Baron's plot was a nailbiter. There were no turrets on the board to start with but that soon changed, forcefield turrets were the name of the game. It seemed wrong but Ra kept using Drawn to the Flame to push the Turrets around, and the Pylons! AZ kept up the area damage with Thermal Shockwave again, and it proved very effective, but just as deadly to the heroes with Blade Redistributing it back at them. Eventually it came down to the final turn, with 2 Pylons needed and 2 surrounding AZ at 3 damage each, and Blade there ready to redistribute the damage if the Pylons didn't explode.
Heroes scored a very close victory!

Most frequently used powers
Baron Blade: Kinetic Redistributor (Paul)
AZ: Thermal Shockwave (Matt, not on these forums)
Ra: Drawn to the Flame (Me)

Stupid moment: Ra aimed as his first action, then use Drawn to the Flame rolling a 4d attack, three 2s and one 1, automisses on a  2.

Fun had: Lots.

So I was at a friend's wedding yesterday (with Ja'Ph') and I unexpectedly met up with another old school friend and at the reception we started talking about games - her partner said he played Magic a bit and so I then had to say something along the lines of "There's this card game we play that's co-operative and it's to do with superheroes and stuff and even though I'm not really interested in superheroes or comics and stuff I think this game is really amazing..." and we then spent over an hour talking about Sentinels and I basically sold it to them because they say they're gonna look into buying it :D. I also told them about the regular London meet-ups and they might be along to one of those at some point (they both work in London so they said they can get there pretty easily), so we can split into two groups or something if they show up and there's too many of us for a single game :).

ViolentSilence,

Not sure of the parking situation, but I think there are some motorbicycle bays in the Finsbury Circus/Bloomfield Street area which is almost right next to the pub, if there aren't any closer. There's some building work next to the pub so that parrt of Liverpool Street (1-14) may not be accessible.

What day do people feel like having the February meetup on? I'd lean towards tne 22nd to give the maximum possible time for Wrath and Villains playtesting cards, assuming Vilains is the next thing playtested, to appear.

I've never heard of "Ticket to Ride" either, lol...well, other than the Beatles song ;).

I did have a brief scroll through the Dice Hate Me stuff on the page right after the merge thingy was announced, but at a glance pretty much every game seemed to be about drinks (coffee and beer, mainly) so nothing grabbed my attention. If there'd been pictures of dragons or something I might've had a closer look ;).

Maybe among board-gamey people, but I'm more of a computer-gamey person. Pretty much every tabletop game I play is something that was introduced to me by someone else, and even then I mostly play Sentinels ;). TTR is essentially an abstract game about collecting coloured cards to link up points on the map with little plastic tokens to get victory points. It's not really a train game, just train-flavoured.

It's really not a game you'd like though Ameena, it can be extremely cut-throat as a big part of the game is cutting off other people by claiming the section of track they need to complete a route (assuming you've guessed where they're trying to get to).

Fortunately, we'll have enough cards for 2 games, especially if we include the Cauldron and the bizarre rubbish I've come up with. Please try to make sure you're roughly on time so we can claim two tables (or one large table) without (too much of) a fuss.

As the last one was such a success, time to organise the next. I'd suggest April 26th, just to keep things regular.

This will be at the Railway Tavern, near Liverpool Street, rather than the Mad Hatter. Itwill start at 11 rather than 12, however, and the Meetup RSVP system opens on Sunday the 19th for it.

I have to admit that only being able to confirm you've got a place so late is pretty annoying if you're planning to travel to London and thus need to arrange transport and accommodation.

I guess I'm not the target audience though...

PW

That complaint has been made. This is experimenting to find the balance as a lot of people book very early and then don't show up but don't cancel the RSVP so people who are on the wait list who could have gone can't.

If you find yourself able to attend, let me know and I'll put you down as a +1 or 2 depending.

The fact that we're free and the pubs that are letting us use their facilities for free (well, for us buying food and beer) are pretty large. Finding pubs with room for more than 50 gamers on a regular basis, in central London, ain't easy or cheap. And as this is an all-volunteer affair, no one can spend all their time finding them, or certainly paying the likely large cost to rent one properly.

Also LoB has been going for years. Hell, i've been going to them for more than 7 years. Charging would be a massive change in the way we work and one that is likely to be resisted by the organisers as much as the members.

AR

Hmmm ... I suppose another solution might be to meet more often.

Perhaps the solution is to take attendance and temporarily ban people who sign up, don't attend, and don't cancel their RSVP. You can be nice about this -- perhaps only banning after X misses or something like that.

That is on track, the banning of persisent offenders at least. We're going with stern warnigns first, but sanctions are being considered.

However, meeting more often would be tricky. LoB meets practically every day of the week now. I just arange these thigns once a month. I'm at LoB once a week more or less.

London On Board should probably start thinking about multiple venues on key meetup dates, although that could lead to splintering the club. It might be the best way to go though as it continues to grow. It was only a few years ago that they could barely fill the Red Herring once a week with every other Sunday held at that place in St. James, and now it's pretty much daily meets and poeple being turned away due to overcrowding.

In other news, I'm not going to be around for the next Sentinels day but it sure was great to finally make it to one again!

Would've done it last night but I'd ended up playing many hours of Sentinels with my sister and her boyfriend - she'd nt really expressed an interest before but he was up for it when I first told him about it a while back so we've played a few games now and then. Yesterday he persuaded her to join in and she actually got into it and stuff and we played a whole bunch of (mostly unsuccessful) games. We beat Miss Info, then got beaten by Lilian, Voss, Skinwalker Gloomy (first time ever for me - we didn't evne flip him :() and the Ennead. The latter got out about four more members in the first couple of rounds and we whittled them down, then we had Osiris on 2hp and Shu on erm, about 15 or something. As Omni-10, I Singularitied all my stuff (no-one else had any equipment, Sky-Scraper and Captain Cosmic, or I'd've had one of those as well) to flip Osiris and get Shu down to 1hp. And then Nuit came out. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

And Tefnut came out later as well, once it was just Captain Cosmic left and he clawed his way slowly to the final mercy of a slow and painful defeat, lol.

Next Sentinels Sunday is the 27th unless there's an objection. Also, new venue alert! We are now at the Bavarian Beerhouse, The Arches, 9 Crutched Friars, Tower Hill, EC3N 2AU. Also starting from 12 not 11, so changes all round.

Cool, Ja'Ph' is off that weekend so we were gonna ask if it could be then anyway :). We'll still have to leave earlier, though, as I'll have work the following day, so the fact it starts an hour later is a bit of a bummer. Oh well. I looked up the place on Google Maps (having never heard of it) and it looks like it's not-very-far from Tower Hill, which we pass through en route to Liverpool Street anyway so that should be easy enough to get to :).

There's no meetup the last Sunday this month (25th). Do people want to meet up on the 18th (Bavarian Beerhouse as last time with the long thin tables) or the 1st November (back in the Railway Tavern)?

I will turn up to the Villains meet up regardless of the date or location, otherwise it's not easy for me to make time at the weekends due to family commitments. Hmm, looks like it'll probably be easier/quicker to get the Victoria line up to Warren Street or something, rather than go aaaalll the way round the Circle line. Looking for it on the Google Maps street view thingy I can't actually seem to find the place. Does it have a big sign outside it or something? My street-view exploration is blocked by a "no entry" barrier on a side road and there's also a van right in the way so I can't see if this ISH place is down there. So, organising two completly separate things

1) Regular London Sentinels Day: Sunday, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

2) Hanging with >G which may or may not include games.

So, London peeps, thoughts on the former and >G peeps on the latter.

29th is a meetup with the >G people. There is a London on Board meetup that day, so if Greater Than Games would like a gaming day, we can organise that. If theyd prefer to just meet up in a pub for chat and recovery from jetlag, we can arrange that, too. Paul or Craig, let me know what you guys want to do.

Ach, the most awkward time of year to arrange a meet-up, lol. We tend to skip December and have the next meet be around the end of January if I can remember rightly. Lots of people tend to be (understandably ;)) busy around that time of year and the trains are usually kind of tricky. Maybe we can sort something out? Also link to the venue in case you need directions: https://www.google.com/maps/place/229+The+Venue/@51.5236805,-0.1443796,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x48761ad708a0ae07:0x672712bc8d7b4911!8m2!3d51.5236805!4d-0.1443796

Just as a heads-up, looking out my window at the snow that's currently falling...I know the current weather isn't supposed to be as bad/last as long as the last lot, but just in case it gets bad and is so tomorrow, there's a chance I may not risk the trains in case they all get cancelled and stuff. Hopefully it'll be fine, though, and we can continue as planned :).

Well, the trains look okay so far - no weather-related delays or anything. It does look like my train is gonna get into London via the other line, rather than the one it normally takes, but that's probably 'cause of engineering works or something. It just means it'll take me a bit longer to actually get to London. Hopefully the snow won't get much worse than it is and everything will be running fine :).

A strage confluence of events has led me to being free at the weekends for the first time in almost never! It's completely out of synch with the regular meetups but I'll be a free agent between Sat 31st March and Fri 13th April. Other plans will no doubt rear up along the way but would be good to catch up after such a long abscence if there is anything scheduled during this time.

Demihero, it was cool to meet you too :). If you should ever happen to acquire Tabletop Sim we can play Sentinels and/or Spirit Island there too, without your needing to specifically arrange to stop by at one of our London meets on the rare occasion you happen to be down this way :).

Paul,

There will be a London on Board on Tuesday the 10th, if you and/or Adam are interested in attending. Located at the Sir Christopher Hatton between Faringdon (Circle/Hammersmith/Metropolitan line) and Chancery Lane (Cenral line). You’ll need to be down as +1s to get in but I can sort that out. If interested, I can give better directions.

Standard intro game. No events, no adversary.

Me: Virtal Strength.

Jim: Shadows Flicker

Tammy: Lightning

Bruno: River

They seemed to like it. As with most intro games took a couple of turns ot get the rhythm of play but by the end they were dealing with things without me making suggestions.

Sentinels + Playtest stuff

Spirit Island + Playtest stuff

Compounded - Now with added Geiger expansion

Sagrada (4 player dice drafter)

Escape from Pompeii (4-player placement and race)

And it looks like we're into the 8-10 players range depedning on exactly who shows up.

Edit: It also appears that Keith Baker and Jean Ellis will be demoing their new game at the meet-up, Illimat, if anyone's interested in that information.

Hi all,

Unfortunately due to a double booking at the Sir Christopher Hatton the cellar bar will not be available tonight, so we'll be in the raised area on the ground floor instead. Space will be limited, so please update your RSVP if you are no longer able to attend.

Regards,

Always room for more. We have enough stuff for 2 3 player games if we hit 6 people.

EDIT: And just checked (because I'm curious like that): Between official, Cauldron, my personal homebrew and various playtesting decks we have enough for 28 simultaneous three player games without even touching Team Villains or OblivAeon himself. We can even do it without having to play Spite, Miss Information or Wager Master. So adding two people will not cause us a problem. Unless we already have 83 players. But that's more than the venue will cater for so I think we'll be ok.

Hmm, it might well be ridiculously busy so it may be risky. So far I don't have any plans for that weekend (well, it's my birthday on Saturday but I don't do anything special for that) but it's more a matter of how busy do we think London will be...I mean, I suppose the area where we meet up won't be too bad but I can see Victoria and the Tube being packed. Train times look okay, though - just checked and they seem the same as usual.

Just as a heads up, I don't think I'll be late but just in case...I just checked the train times to confirm they're still good and it looks like there are some delays/cancellations somewhere "between Rainham and Gravesend" (someone got hit by a train, apparently), which is kind of vague as that's a pretty long stretch of track. Delays are apparently gonna last till around 11am and there seems to be the possibility of rail-replacement buses and stuff too. It'll probably be fine (even undelayed my train gets into Victoria at like ten past eleven, which gives me loads of time), but just so you know ;).
