We played a four-player game yesterday for the first time, and ran out of explorers. I know that you can use energy chits for indicating additional explorers, but I'd really rather have something that looks better on the table. Has anyone had any luck finding good proxies for extra explorers?

You must've been going really badly if you used up all the Explorers, though. Did you Win?
We've used energy tokens under an explorer figure to represent that number of explorers (or other thing). It worked pretty well.
It's definitely possible to run out of Explorers in a 4-player game. But if it happened in your first game, I would also double-check the Rules semi-commonly misplayed from the living FAQ.
