GTG has confirmed this several places, but I haven't heard any updates on when it will be available.
However, we have not heard anything since then. I would not expect the German version to arrive before next summer.
I can confirm that Pegasus Spiele will be publishing a German-language version of Spirit Island some time in 2018! The timing and details are up to them.
